Government introduces cash plus pilot project

Share

The Ministry of Community Development and Social Services says the Cash Plus pilot project that was introduced in Mambwe district is a mechanism meant to improve the livelihoods of the vulnerable in society.

Ministry’s Director of Community Development, Cosmas Lukupulo said the Cash Plus pilot project is a comprehensive approach aimed at benefiting the vulnerable in society.

ZANIS reports that Mr. Lukupulo pointed out that this project will enable the vulnerable in society to benefit from more than one social protection project.

He added that enlisting beneficiary households on more than one social protection project will enable government analyse if the strategy is yielding the desired results or not.

Mr. Lukupulo observed that it is unfortunate that despite government and other stakeholders pumping in so much in the social protection project, poverty levels keep increasing.

He thus pointed out that there is an overwhelming need to train the beneficiaries and change their mindsets so that they can put the monies to good use and consolidate government’s efforts.

Meanwhile, Mambwe District Administrative Officer, Daggoh Chitendwe said the initiative is good and encouraging.

Mr. Chitendwe pointed out that if the pilot project works out, then it can be rolled out to other vulnerable people who are not benefiting.

  1. You introduce cash plus …but dont have cash and you returned funds to donors. Why cant you just improve services instead of handouts!!

  2. Don’t worry there soon wont be any money to pay these people from this broke govt, who cant even pay their work force, honestly do you think a person who has not received a salary will deliver money to villagers with out keeping it for them selves, more over PF govt only employs Kaponya`s, it just a matter of time before they loot this money

    • Its laughable especially that people don’t get prosecuted as their bosses are stealing as well…the temptation to place ghosts and abusing this for campaigning is great. Pilato was spot on when he stated that the prefer you to be poor..

  3. Cash handouts ain’t the way to go ,instead empower people with skill sets ,a healthy marketplace and GRZ support services to allow them to be self sustaining.Building a culture of dependency is a long term joke of reinforcing laziness & poverty.

  4. I know this government is mostly banking on votes from the rural communities who are either too marginalized to make an informed decision or have not yet seen its nakedness. Therefore, out of desperation, are introducing financial support projects whose objectives are shallow. PF has introduced many Loan Revolving Funds related projects which have just gone cold after the disbursement of funds. We need projects that are designed based on a project cycle, after evaluation, recommendations should determine the next course of action and we should learn from experiences. Otherwise, there is a total waste of national resources for projects that are not sustainable and are primarily meant to benefit PF members or used for political manipulations.
