The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ), has called on the public to attend public forums in order to avoid misconceptions about the electoral process.
ECZ Vice Chairperson Annette Nhekairo said such meetings help enhance the electoral process through various recommendations that are made to the Commission.
Ms Nhekairo made the call during a public forum held in the Solwezi Council Chamber.
She said with the involvement of the public in the electoral process the visibility of what the commission is doing will be seen and voters confidence will be enhanced.
Ms Nkekairo, further appealed to residents to turn out in numbers and to refrain from any violence in the November 20, 2018 Tumvwanganai ward by-elections.
Speaking at the same meeting, Principal Electoral Officer Stephen Nyondo said the commission is trying to be proactive on different social media platforms to avoid speculations on election results.
Mr Nyondo said people need to make use of the official ECZ website and social media platforms to get correct information.
He stated that the commission has already conducted study tours to countries where election voting has worked to learn the best ways to implement the program.
Mr Nyondo added that the software has already been developed but ECZ cannot roll it out due to challenges which include lack of infrastructure in remote areas and lack of confidence by voters that the system cannot be hacked.
Meanwhile, one of the participants Oliver Chilefu appealed to ECZ to implement And Solwezi Town Clerk Mbulo Seke expressed hope that the knowledge the public has received has helped answer all questions and will exercise their right to vote.

This must be mandatory for ANIMO FARM because it HALLUCINATES that every truck coming into Zambia is carrying pre-marked ballot boxes. Remember many of the UPND members come from villages where HH grew up too. They really need to attend these forums.

In an effort to win back public confidence, ECZ is now playing PR to save a little of what remains of it’s once upon a time better image. Why call them misconceptions? if you could not provide crucial G12 documents, allowed cadres in sensitive rooms. read wrong figures and cancelled press briefings when the public need your clarification in the August 2016 elections results announcements. You are one of the main cause of tension in this country. Good luck!

How can ECZ manipulate figures when all representatives of both parties are their and the tarrings are done in their presence and comparisons to the main register? Sadly, UPND were chasing those who were trying to verify the registers that is why we ended up the ECZ trying to verify at the late hour which UPND saw as unfair. The fact still remains, CB has a larger constituency and to have rural Southern beat CB with a larger population raised red flags regardless of higher voter turnouts for their LITTLE BOY. ECZ must verify the Register early enough accompanied by the Paramilitary police. Also, International observers declared the elections free and fair except in MONZE and NAMWALA by NAMWALANS.

People have no confidence in you as ECZ. As long as ECZ maintains neutrality and ensures there is fairness and a level playing field in all elections then there won’t even be any need for such forums.
