Government will this Friday, 26th October commission the export of 20 megawatts of power to neighboring Malawi.

Minister of Energy, Mathew Nkhuwa says a further 50 megawatts of power will be provided to that country once it upgrades its transmission line.

vlcsnap-7588-05-24-04h53m08s179In an interview with QTV News, Mr. Nkhuwa says Malawi is buying power from Zambia as it is only able to produce 300 megawatts of electricity and currently has a deficit of 200 megawatts.

Mr. Nkhuwa states that the government therefore wants to supply power to the neighboring Country with the aim of earning foreign exchange.

He adds that the fact that Zambia is exporting power is an indication that the Country does not have a power deficit.

Mr. Nkhuwa says this also means that there is no load shedding in the Country.

He was however quick to explain that areas where supply of electrify is being cut is as result of maintenance works being carried out on ZESCO sub-stations.

  1. A very welcome move. We need forex urgently. Let our neighbours pay I US dollars please. No free things. Fair trade only.

    • Like Zambians will ever benefit from such.

Whatever profits are made will be channeled into completing mansions in Swazi and Uganda.

      Vote wisely next time.

    • Lungu and his fellow pompwe’s will pocket all the money. They have re interpreted SATA’s concept of ‘more money in the pocket’ to stealing and having more money in their pockets!

    • HH is the biggest pompwe there has ever been in Zambia! He opened an offshore account because he knew that he is a POMPWE. A TONGA POMPWE.

    • Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi…. Three sister nations that must help each other! This is a step in the right direction, we need that money from electricity sales to be put to good use and not buying luxury SUVs. God bless these great countries and their strong resilient people! We the citizens demand free movement and customs free business between these three sister nations.

  3. When Zambia exports, it is a problem to the bitter cult. When Zambia imports it is another problem to the bitter cult. May be Zambians should give their ka small god to rule just for a month before these people start committing suicide.

    • Now we understand the load shedding that is going around. How do you satisfy your neighbours needs and leave your own house needy?

    • Hahahahahahahah, the biter lot indeed. Their small god has his money in tax havens while they are busy complaining in Zambia.
