A list of teachers that are alleged to have leaked examination papers has been availed to the Minister of General Education David Mabumba. Mr. Mabumva has disclosed to ZNBC News in an interview today.
Mr. Mabumba says this follows investigations, which are still on-going. The Minister has stressed that the culprits will be dealt with accordingly.
On Tuesday, Government announced the suspension of the Grades Seven, Nine and Twelve Examinations following malpractices. Mr. Mabumba says he will on Monext week, hold a media briefing and release findings on the leakages.
Meanwhile, Government says all the 2018, Grade Seven, Nine and 12 Examinations remain suspended indefinitely.
Minister of General Education, David Mabumba said the resumption of the examination will be announced officially by the Ministry.
He explained that the suspension of the examination was announced at a media briefing noting that, the resumption will follow suit.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Mabumba explained in an interview in Lusaka today, that people should desist from taking social media rumors as gospel truth but that, they should instead wait for government’s position.
“People should not believe in what they see on social media. And people from the media circles should not equally believe in social media postings because I announced the suspension through the press briefing and I will equally do the same on the resumption of these examinations.
Mr. Mabumba said his Ministry will endeavor to put the record straight even in the advent of social media where people post unconfirmed reports.
He further urged the traditional media to always get the correct position on such matters so that audiences are given verified information.
There are some unconfirmed reports circulating on social media that the suspension of the 2018 examinations has been lifted by government.

Identifying the perpetrators of the exam paper leakage, will not stop further leakages in not too distant a future and the President cleaning up a small section of the vast country of Zambia will not stop Cholera ever occurring again. This is what happens when you have dull chaps like Mabumba and educated fooools like Luo for ministers when there is a problem as major as this they look for a fault trial surely one individual can not leak papers to the whole country….this is a systemic issue, leaks have been there in the past on this scale but now things like this are amplified due to social media. I am not surprised the inept President did not call for a Commission of Inquiry…I mean there are children who will suffer because of this incompetence…heads should be rolling at ECZ and Ministry of Education. Teaching is supposed to be a noble profession so these teachers who leaked papers if indeed they are teachers have tainted the teaching profession therefore it is just right that their peers decide their fate.

I am not justifying criminality …in fact what I am stating is that this is an institutional problem that requires institutional reform update the system to 2018 not just nab a few hungry printers and headmasters then state that you have sorted the problem. I am not a teacher but I feel for teachers. Teachers have suffered a lot. Infact not only tchers but all Lungu workers in this country are just suffering. No salary increament since 2016, so they are practicing “ubomba mwibala alya mwibala”. Improve the conditions of service for the teachers and then see what an excuse shall be because right now you can feel for a teacher. However, that does not compel someone to do wrong things.

Mr Minister, be reminded that some pupils are in boarding schools and it costs money to keep students in school. You can’t be saying indefinite indefinite! Some parents were supposed to pick their children from school on 1st November 2018. Any extra day of stay means parents have to pay more. Can we see a speedy resolution to this to avoid further stress to parents, pupils and Boarding schools! This Leakage thing could not have happened if the Minister was not this inept! How did his predecessors manage to control this vice and he is failing?

It’s not a teacher, the minister should first fire ecz officials , they are responsible for all leakages not a teacher. Who keeps the marking key before exams are written ? It’s the ecz. Do teachers possess marking before exams. As long as you keep blaming teachers the issue of leakages will always be there . The ecz must be scrutinized thoroughly.
