President Edgar Lungu has congratulated Sahle-Work Zewde on her appointment as Ethiopia’s new Head of State.
Ms. Zewde was elected by Ethiopia’s Parliament as Head of State on October 25th 2018, making her the first female to hold such a position in that country.
In his message of congratulations, President Lungu said the appointment of Ms. Zewde as the first female to hold the highest office in the land, is an illustration of the Ethiopian government’s commitment to promote gender equality and women empowerment.
The President noted that the increased number of women empowerment to decision making positions in that country’s parliament, sets a remarkable standard for the future of Ethiopian politics describing it as a positive trend for Africa and the world over.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to further strengthen bilateral and multilateral corporation between Zambia and Ethiopia for the mutual benefit of the two peoples.
President Lungu notes that he looks forward to working with President Zewde in an effort aimed at strengthening economic development in the two nations, as well as promote peace and security on the African continent.
“On behalf of government and the people of Zambia, and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to extend my sincere congratulations to your Excellency on your election as President of the Federal Republic of Ethiopia,” says the President in his message of congratulations.
This is contained in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today, by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations, Amos Chanda.
And the Zambian Head of State has also congratulated Brazil’s President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro following his election on October 28th, 2018.
President Lungu says the election of Mr. Bolsonaro is an affirmation of the trust and confidence that the people of Brazil have in his leadership qualities towards leading them to higher levels of success.
The President said the people of Zambia have confidence that Mr. Bolsonaro and the Social Liberal Party will meet the great expectations of the people of Brazil through the election victory.
And the President has reaffirmed Zambia’s desire to consolidate and strengthen the existing relations between Zambia and Brazil for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
