Remains of veteran freedom Fighter Mama Chibesakunda Kankasa to be in Zambia tomorrow

The remains of veteran freedom Fighter Mama Chibesakunda Kankasa will arrive in Zambia tomorrow 1st November 2018.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba said the plane carrying the remains of the heroine struggle stalwart, will land at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 15:15 hours.

Mr. Mwamba announced this when he visited the family led by Dr. Tukiya Kankasa, Dr. Chipepo Kankasa, Makole Kankasa who are gathered at a temporal funeral home in Pretoria.

The funeral is being held at Mrs. Mwila Chigaga’s home in Pretoria before being taken to Zambia on Thursday.

Mama Kankasa died in South Africa on Monday, 29th October 2018 at the age of 82 after she was evacuated to South Africa on October 6th 2018 for specialist treatment by government.

She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the Arwyp Medical Centre in Johannesburg until her demise.

Mama Kankasa was born ss Bessie Chibesakunda Ng’ona on 23rd March 1936, at Lubwa Mission in Chinsali districts

President Edgar Lungu has accorded freedom fighter Mama Chibesakunda Kankasa a state funeral and has declared Saturday November 3rd the day she will be buried a day of national mourning.

Mama Kankasa’s burial will be preceded by a requiem service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Lusaka at 09:00 hours and later burial will take place at Leopards Hill Memorial Park.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mwamba said the remains of Rayford Bulaya a Royal Bus accident victim that occurred in Mokopane, in Limpopo province in South Africa will be flown to Ndola tomorrow.

Mr. Mwamba disclosed that the remains of Mr. Bulaya’s remains, will be flown aboard South Africa Airways flight SA 96 that will land at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola at 12:35 Hours.

Mr. Mwamba said the body will be accompanied by the Widow, Mwila Mulenga Bulaya, and family members to the deceased Richard Bulaya and Christopher Mwale.

Bulaya was a member of Royal bus crew, who had been in hospital since 17th September 2018 until he died last week.

  1. Condolences Zambia. Condolences Mr. President! Condolences to the family of the Mama Kankasa. Mr. President great leadership. Zambia is changing for good. When you are finely done in 2026, you would have left a great legacy of development to our country. Please let’s make another rail line similar to the one in Kenya (Mombasa – Nairobi) and relieve our roads off the pressure of heavy loads. It is UNELECTABLE and full of HaJEALOUS.
