Government has urged the church to continue providing spiritual guidance to the leadership of the country.

Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili said the church should continue to pray for Zambia’s peace, unity and love.

Ms. Sumaili said government cherishes the partnership it has with the church.

The Minister was speaking when she officiated during the Woodlands Baptist Church fundraising dinner held in Lusaka last evening.

Ms. Sumaili further implored the church to continue being the channel through which the message of love is preached adding that there is need to embrace one another regardless of the different political persuasions.

The Minister also commended Zambians for turning up in large numbers during the commemoration of the day of Prayer, Fasting, Reconciliation and Repentance, held last month.

And the Minister of Religious Affairs and National Guidance, has pledged to contribute K5, 000 towards the construction of the Woodlands Baptist Church building and urged people who attended the event to contribute, so that the word of God can be preached in a conducive environment.

And Baptist Church Pastor, William Chanda said the congregation has grown, hence the need to build a bigger structure to accommodate everyone coming for worship.

Pastor Chanda said the new building under construction in Woodlands will be able to accommodate over 900 people and hopes that the fundraising dinner will contribute finances to complete the building.

He commended the Minister and her government for the dedication to encourage prayers in the country.

    • It’s irrelevant period ! It was the appeasement of this woman for Christians for Lungu campaign …now we all have to pay for it

    • We need a Ministry of Common Sense, not a Mistry of Religion… because some of the decisions we make as a government are mind boggling. Then the Minster of religion comes and says let us pray, NONSENSE!!!!!

We have thieves embezzling billions of dollars and they go to church praying the Lord’s Prayer.

ati… let Your Will be done on earth as it is in Heaven!

What a mockery…. are there thieves in Heaven the?

    • @1.2 I agree with you because of the fact that we have this ministry which is so nonsensical. If Zambia wants to pretend it’s a democracy govt should not align itself with any religion because government prevails over different people who are not not from one religion. You can’t force a country into any religion not even into non-religious behavior. Leave this to the individual. It’s only common sense

  1. The mistake was to declare Zambia a Christian Nation, without people understanding what that actually means. Now you have a confused Nation, people/ Politicians behaving like hypocrites. Today they go to church, looking serious and praying, the following day… scandals are reported contrary to what was preached the previous day. The Church leaders are also confused, they don’t know how to play it, without being looked upon as meddling in politics.
Let’s get back to the “normal” Zambia, whoever wants to be a worshipper, do that as a private thing and remove the dum.b “Christian Nation” label, as there is nothing Christian after all. Just a bun.ch of confused believers, with ministries that don’t make sense.

  2. I wonder what a typical day is at this ministry. What do the staff do from morning until they knock off? whats in the ‘In-Tray?’
