ZESCO says loss of power that affected eight provinces was due to a disturbance on the power inter-connector system.

ZESCO Spokesperson Henry Kapata said that the interruption on the power transmission equipment at Kitwe’s 330 to 220 kv substation, resulted in power failure in the two provinces.

Mr. Kapata said that because of that, the system experienced high voltages leading to loss of supply to parts of Lusaka, Central, Muchinga, Northern, Luapula and Eastern provinces.

The power system also lost generation at Kafue gorge, Mamba Collieries, Kariba North Bank, and the entire Ndola Energy Company Limited, and ZESCO engineers responded and restored supply to the affected areas.

Mr. Kapata added that investigations and repair works have commenced at Kitwe to normalize the affected Line.

He said this when he featured on ZNBC’s Kwacha Good Morning Zambia programme in Lusaka.

  1. Kikikikikikikikiki Zesco, Zesco… awe mwandi didn’t handover properly to Chinese, you should tell them where main connectors are.

    • Kikikiki , tuma chocholi tunadyaka pa ntambo, kuchenjelesa tubantu itu, luckily ninshi natamba kudala game yaba Royal Madrid.

  2. For a second there I thought lungu had touched a live wire and done us all a favour. I was about to open my 5000 pounds bottle of Louis xiii

  3. Some Zambian engineers are no better than the Komboni boys who make illegal electric connections to light up their homes. They have no planning skills and capabilities to weigh the task a head.No risk assessments done before undertaking a task of that magnitude.Poor quality engineering work pa zed.You are luck ni pa zed and hence not sued for lack of business in the areas affected

  4. The national grid in Zambia is highly developed and is amongst the best in the region. The protection relays employed, including the technical staff, meet the criteria of making the system reliable through the sensitivity in detecting even a very small fault, discriminating and high operating speeds of the relays. Without which the whole system could have suffered severe damage. The loss of supply in other areas was to safeguard the healthy parts of the network. Those who always criticise anything local (Zambian) are suffering from a complex.

    • What amongst the highly developed ?

How can a fault in kitwe black out 8 provinces ? Are you dull or mad ?

If it is so developed why not isolate the faulty substation alone ??

  5. Naimwe ba Jay Gay, Spaka and other upnd trib.al specialists, those are technical and not trib.al matters. Best to keep your ignorance to yourselves and your trib.e. or better still within the confines of your sitting where you debate with trib.al brains.
Your comments are absolutely shameful and do not add anything to state house lost ambitions by trib.al Hacks.

    • You are just an ignorant of kaponya who has no clue from stone throwing…..how can 8 provinces be blacked out from a fault in kitwe ? Why not just isolate kitwe alone where the fault is ??

You wounder why Zambia is messed up with goons like this one incharge ??

  6. It is correct to state here that Zambia would be 200% more developed if there was no upnd since 2006. Trib.al politics of upnd under trib.al Hacks have frustrated Levy, Rupiah, Sata, and now Lungu.

We have exactly the same trib.al situation that forced KK to declare One party state so what is Lungu waiting for? Is he such a leader who cannot do the obvious when the justification stares him in the face? Or at least just ban upnd and let other opposition parties grow to replace these trib.alists.

We dont want a tonga President, we want a Zambian President, okay upnd trib.alists?
