Minister of Community Development and Social Services Olipa Phiri says the Social Cash Transfer scheme still has room for prosperity, despite the challenges that have engulfed the programme.

Ms. Phiri assured beneficiaries that government remains committed to funding the programme adding that it will continue serving its intended purpose and prosper.

She said this when she called on North-western Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Douglas Ngimbu in Solwezi yesterday.

Ms. Phiri, who is on a familiarisation tour, is visiting Solwezi, Kalumbila and Mwinilunga districts to check on programmes under the social services, women empowerment programmes, skills training, food security, village banking initiatives and the social cash transfer scheme.

Meanwhile, Provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary Douglas Ngimbu said the village banking initiative is progressing well in the province.

Mr. Ngimbu also stated that most beneficiaries of the social cash transfer scheme have utilised the funds well and have since improved their lives.

He added that he is aware that government is currently addressing the challenges linked to the scheme, and has since commended the Minister for taking time to farmiliarise herself with the social service programmes in the province.
