Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Charity Katanga has said that 18 suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres were arrested for conduct likely to cause breach of peace when UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema appeared for questioning at the Copperbelt Police divisional headquarters in Ndola yesterday.

Ms Katanga said that those arrested, 17 are males and one female.

Ms. Katanga also said that the Journalist, Frank Chingambu, of the Ndola ZANIS office who was also arrested has been released.

Ms Katanga said that the journalist was apprehended after he failed to produce identification and got into a confrontation with police officers

On HH, Mr Katanga said that the UPND leader was warned and cautioned for Seditious Practices, contrary to section 57 (1)( d) as read with section 60 (1) (f) of the Penal Code.

Ms Katanga said that Mr. Hichilema was alleged to have broken this provision of the law when he recently uttered seditious words against the Chinese people.

Ms. Katanga further said that the fact that Mr. Hichilema had been warned and cautioned of the said offence, there will be another course of action from the police that will follow.

She has since cautioned political leaders against issuing unsubstantiated statements which incite xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals.

  1. These supporters never learn. What do they achieve at the end of any protest. If protests were salaries, I would have joined plenty of them. Anyway, these are loafers who depend on handouts from HH. I can’t blame them, they have nothing to offer this beloved country. Bafwaya ukwakufwila

“alleged to have broken this provision of the law when he recently uttered seditious words against the Chinese people.”

I thought the talk was that he incited the Riots?

    • #Kanene please read the laws of Zambia. Part 60 if I’m right says you can be imprisoned up to 3years for using insulting language, threatening language or causing fear or issuing inflammatory language so let HH defend himself. But if there’s sufficient evidence he committed one of these, the court has the right to send him to government inn.

  2. Imagine that hh and ecl actually met and discussed prior to the questioning of hh by police in ndola…….and the blind followers get themselves in trouble…!

  3. They will dance pelete while HH is having a proper breakfast of bacon and eggs and other things those cadres only see in films.

    • @Ndanje Khakis

Are you jealous? Who cares if he’s having English breakfast ? The man can afford it while us we enjoy our morning chimbala. Kusiyana kwama offisi.

    • Jealous for what ? I’ve my breakfast the way I want it not the way the situation is. I just feel sorry for the nicompoops who risk their lives for useless politics. I can afford many things.

  4. You guys ECL & his friend HH are enjoying themselves, but you foolish & stupid cadres you are busy sweating for a ka half ice cane beer, please learn to charge your mind set mwembushi mwee!!!!!!

  5. I thought HH was summoned for question for allegedly inciting kitwe riots and not speaking I’ll of the chinese as stated by Ms.Katanga.

  6. Arresting them for what? Did they cause violence or they just went to offer solidarity. What you should understand is that HH is a leader and has followers. So wherever he goes, there will be people who want to welcome him. It is very wrong to arrest them if they didnt break any law other than just welcoming their leader.

  7. UPND ferried cadres from Lusaka to go and cause havoc in Ndola. Dr Proud was yesterday calling from Ndola to all radio stations.

    • @Mutulong’oma

Iwe just say you were shocked that UPND has cadres in Ndola CHAPWA.

How do you know they were ferried? Were you one of them?? Stop spreading fake news.

  8. Teach them a lesson they will never forget! They deserve it. Yesterday they misbehaved a lot on great east road inconveniencing motorist like their master did in western province, i was one of those that was inconvenienced and i never like their behavior. Nayaa inee

    • Were they going to rescue HH. If not why go and make a nuisance of yourself? All the way from Lusaka just to end up in cells at Kansenshi.

  9. Katanga is a PF cadre, she doesn’t even know the charge herself…. this woman is dull only good for arresting pastors, ubu puba wekaweka

  10. Whether you are a supporter or what ever, first you are an individual citizen. Even if you are a leader you are a citizen, cadres or what ever you are behave yourselves. Find something to do.even work as farm hands or garden boys.I know you are unemployed. And the police do your job.arrest them.

wise Zambians have now lost keen interest in you so just go and concentrate on your business fyanshi mulwisha ifyo tamwakabepo? dont forget that 2021 God is giving us another leader nawemwine nawishiba.

  12. Double standards Yeka-yeka, when PF demonstrated we never heard of even a deranged cadre being arrested. Why always sniffing around for fake charges when opposition parties try and exercise their rights? Which violence did the Upnd cause?

  13. Ba Mayo Ba Charity, I beg you to back-out of this. This action destroys your character, and destroys the Nation. Revert to your original self as the beacon of Women empowerment in the Police Service, perhaps second only to Ms Brenda Muntemba, on human rights issues. Don’t tarnish your CV over this mess.

Please take time to listen to Lucky Dube lyrics in the song “Teach The World” : Lucky Dube sang: “It takes a million people to build up a good reputation, but it takes one stupid fool to destroy everything they’ve done…Take it upon yourself to restore your nation’s dignity….Teach the world, Teach them right, as it takes a million lives to get the respect you deserve….”. Peace Be With You!

  14. Bravo ZP!!we warned those dull cadres but they never listened. Now keep them in jail for atleast a week so that they can see a difference between supporting blindly and using common sense. Those fo0ls today slept mudende while HH was back at his chalala house enjoying Mutinta!!
Knowing Charity Katanga, those fo0ls are dancing PELETE in police cells!!!As for Kambwili,he is done politically. His NDC lost terribly yesterday including in Lupososhi(Northern)!!PF won all big ones yesterday-see!!!!SESHEKE IS NEXT BECAUSE PF WILL USE THE SAME WINNING FORMULA!!!HH IS MILES AWAY FROM STATE HOUSE-MARK MY WORDS!!

I do not believe every Zambian is familiar with all these citations of the Penal Code. Good journalism is supposed to be reporting in such a way that an average Zambian reader can decipher was is reported and not running to the library to go and peruse the Penal Code to know what “section 57 (1)( d) as read with section 60 (1) (f)” is all about. I think good journalism would be something like, ….contrary to section 57 (1)( d) as read with section 60 (1) (f), which prohibits blah blah blah, or which makes it illegal to do blah blah blah. My humble opinion.

    • @The Charmer

This is Zambia where the reading culture is poor because of bad education and hence not so good journalism which just copies and pastes. No time for deciphering, if you don’t know your rights in zed consider yourself toast.
