Government is expected to save over 4.7 Billion Kwacha, after it implements all austerity measures including the withdrawal of the motor vehicle replacement allowance.

And Secretary to Cabinet Roland Msiska says the withdrawal of the allowance is part of the austerity measures that government is undertaking.

Dr. Msiska says the move will greatly help reduce the cost of running government.

He was speaking when he featured on ZNBC’s Special Interview programme called PLUGGED IN.

Dr. Msiska further said reports that Cabinet Ministers have been awarded One hundred Percent salary hike are not true.

And Dr. Msiska has appealed to Zambians to avoid issuing inflammatory statements that can negatively affect the economy.

He said he runs an Open-Door policy and anyone that needs information is free to visit his office.

    • @kinte i understand your pain but that kind of talk is not helping any one so please avoid saying that.

To my fellow Zambians Kinte’s extreme comment above is indicative of the silent anger we all feel towards the way senior govt officers for too long have treated themselves as gods, they award themselves abnormal salaries, benefits and perks yet very little is being done on the ground for them to deserve this. Look at the state of roads even in the central district of so called city’s such as Kitwe, what more feeder roads all across Zambia, look at the state of prisons, govt schools, hospitals and yet a govt minister today has the shame to move in a convoy of luxury vehicles to open a clinic which will not even have beds for its first 6 months, the cost of travelling in that convoy…

    • They cant fool me. First they award themselves hefty allowances, then withdraw them and say we are saving! What saving when in first place you introduced allowances only 6 months back. We are not fools. We can see. No savings here.

    • Your projected budget is estimated to be K 83 billion. Your projected austerity measures are said to save K 4.7 billion. In percentage terms, the saving is a paltry 6% of the budget. This saving is nothing. It is like saving what ordinarily would be petty cash.

Everywhere else in the world, austerity is deep and severe to achieve intended objectives. Six percent saving can never be austerity.

Margret, please rethink this austerity thing altogether. Ala bane kukwena kubuta!

  1. Ctn…the cost (money spent on fuel, allowances ceremonial materials etc) of travelling in that convoy of luxury SUVs from Lusaka to where ever countrywide could’ve been used to buy those same beds or at the very least blankets for patients. This huge figure which is supposedly saved is indicative of how wasteful this govt has been. Why can’t they do more and completely do away with these perks all senior govt officers get including even
MPs be they opposition or ruling party? This is what I’ve been saying for years now. The key is not how many natural resources you have, today we can even discover oil but with no proper management in place we will just waste that resource on our top govt officers who are out of touch with reality and the suffering of Zambians. Enough of this kind of…

    • Ctn…Enough of this kind of wastage no more luxury SUVs or any perks for all Senior govt officers. They are civil servants not civil masters!

And these measures are now only happening because the sadistic/ sa.tan.ic World Bank and IMF finally raised alarm bells on this bad habit of our spend thrift govt. K4.7 billion is USD 470million approx can you imagin how much could be saved if they reduce the number not just of ministers but of all senior govt officers who are in their thousands, and keeping mind the amount of money spent on them all.

  2. So if the Secretary to the Cabinet can prove that ministers’ salaries haven’t been increased, what is hh and ck going to protest about??

    • @ Zambian !MBECILE

      Read again
“”Dr. Msiska further said reports that Cabinet Ministers have been awarded One hundred Percent salary hike are not true.””
      Do you understand?
Dr. Msiska stated that Cabinet Ministers have NOT been awarded 100% increase. He DID NOT SAY THAT CABINET MINISTERS HAVE NOT BEEN AWARDED SALARY HIKE !!!
      DO YOU !MBECILE UNDERSTAND DIFFERENCE?

  3. Okay we ‘ve got friends at the Ministry of Finance who will confirm to us that indeed Ministers’ salaries have not been increased

  6. @Double Standards

Its not everyone at FINANCE who is PF.
Some of them could readily provide evidence to the 2 crazy fellas, Kainde and CK, before they issue empty statements.

U want yo children to go n live in USA where leaders think about the future?Nowonder is chasing those immigrants coz of leaders like. Why should yo children benefit when u failed to clean yo own house?Think guys!

    • @Moscow OP well said! This is the kind of objective critism and patriotism we need. But rest assured whether its in this life or the next the greed we are witnessing will be avenged by God in Heaven in one form or the other. We have a failed opposition that can’t or consciously choose not to address these issues in their entirety, hand picking on such topics yet they too with their MPs are equally guilty for awarding themselves huge benefits and perks, a good opposition must address this in its entirety- money spent on MPs both ruling party and opposition too must be cut down drastically.

  9. Why is everything a secret in Zambia? Just publish the salaries of the president and his ministers. Simple and people will stop speculating. Show us how much Amos Chanda and kaizer Zulu earns monthly! We will do the maths and tell you they can afford their lifestyles.

  10. How can this man be talking about saving money ?Where is the drunkard finance mistress? whats wrong with these morons? They don’t know their job descriptions? The civil service is non performing and here comes this so called SC talking about austerity measures! Improve the civil service man!
