Operation Young vote have commended President Lungu for his strong directive to the Anti-corruption commission and other law enforcers on combating corruption but said if not followed by action by the President himself, it will be nothing but rhetoric.

During the commemoration of the 2018 International Anti-Corruption Day held in Lusaka yesterday, President Lungu said the government is committed to making Zambia a corruption free zone on the continent. He directed the Anti-Corruption Commission to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and ensure that culprits cited in the Auditor General’s report are quickly brought to book regardless of their political affiliation and status.

However, OPV has challenged President Lungu to deal with corrupt ministers in his cabinet to give credence to the whole corruption and criminality fight.

Below is the Full Press Statement

Operation Young Vote (OYV) would like to comment President Edgar Lungu on his strong directive to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other law enforcers, during the commemoration of the International Anti-Corruption Day, to bring to book, deal with and recover resources from all those cited in the Auditor General’s Report.

President Lungu’s recognition that most of those involved in corruption and criminality hide under the guise of being Patriotic Front (PF) Members and/or sympathizers and also that belonging to the PF would not save anyone from being followed of one’s corruption and criminal behavior is an encouragement to the corruption fight.

We are of the considered view that this is one of the fundamental steps in curbing corruption and criminality especially in State institutions. However we are further of the conviction that the strong words and directive remain but only rhetoric if not followed by action by President Lungu himself.

President Lungu must ensure that he puts in place mechanisms to follow up this policy pronouncement with institutions that are supposed to implement Presidential Directives/Government Policy.

OYV would further like to challenge President Lungu, who we are convinced that he is very well informed of the ills of corruption (among them depriving the citizens especially the poor of their right to dignified livelihood, joblessness and huge unemployment levels especially among the Young People), to deal with the corrupt Ministers within his cabinet, who he had indicated some time back that some of them were deadly corrupt. This, in fact would be more practical and give credence to the whole corruption and criminality fight.

OYV is of the conviction that pronouncements that are not coupled with action remain only rhetoric and fall short of political will just as the Bible says that Faith with Action is dead and only ends up at being noisy gong.

    • Whenever they want to touch he cries foul that opposition leaders are being incarcerated. And the world wilk come to his rescue. Am not mentioning names here so dont jump to conclusion yet.

    • Lungu saying he is fighting corruption is synonymous to a lion saying it is now a vegetarian.

      It simply can not happen.

No one of significance has been jailed for corruption in Zambia, when it is common knowledge that some ministers are very corrupt. Lungu himself did say that a lot of ministers are corrupt! Yet he only fired one (CK).

Lungu is misleading the good citizens of this country.

  1. CORRUPTION is like CANCER, those found wanting should be JAILED FOR MANY YEARS WITH HARD LABOR.

Kudos to SMART ZAMBIA. Both public and private sector have minimize financial misappropriation according to 2017 – 2018 ANNUAL AUDITORS REPORT.

  2. This dull corrupt thing in Statehouse has presided over a toll gate that costs K50 billion unrebased. How does he hate corruption when that is what defines him?

    • Plus 42 wheel barrows @ $42 million, some people think this is normal. You want to preach about corruption when you don`t have an honest bone in your body, maybe start by apologising to the widow you duped first.

  3. Operation Young Vote (OYV) would like to comment President Edgar Lungu on his strong directive to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and other law enforcers, kikikikikikikik. Just go and eat with them.

  4. It is rhetoric to make the gullible believe it is the same as as punishment, Zambia wasebena. It’s people are docile to pulp

  5. This Lungu is shameless thief insulting the intelligence of Zambians. He and his cabal have rooms reserved for him at Mukobeko when he leaves for office for plundering the nation.

  6. Let them begin this fight by appointing a credible, impartial and fearless auditor-general.If only our leaders’ words and speeches can be translated into action this country can advance so much in eradicating this vice called corruption. We want to see another contractor doing our roads, not just AVIC

  7. Hon.Mweetwa pliz dont smile when you are with ecl, they will expel you from upnd that you are sell out.You should show wrnkles on your face instead.Free advice, leave it or take it.

  8. How it all began:

The former illegitimate mining corporation that lost its mining rights to the Zambian government in 1970 has never rested. In the wake of multi-party democracy, this corporation saw privatisation as an opportunity to regain its mineral rights across the country. To this effect, it fronted its ‘men’ both in government and in the private sector to champion their cause. Hichilema himself was one of the fronts of the foreign interest that resulted in him landing a top position as Lead in the Sell of Subsidiary assets while late Anderson Mazoka, a former employee of the Anglo-American Corporation would lobby from within the Party as a member of the MMD at the time. This ‘well calculated’ ploy gave rise to the inflow of cash to individuals involved most of which would be…

  9. I am starting a campaign Freedom Sikazwe for PRESIDENT. This man is the happiest man I have ever seen, I think he can lift the mood of the nation because he is always happy

  10. So is Trib.al Hacks going to fire Hon Cornelius Mweetwa for interacting with President, the President of both Zambia and PF? I mean like they suspend the upnd mayor of Kafue? As upnd suspends Hon Cornelius can Trib.al Hacks also suspend himself for meeting with President Lungu, and in a dark corner meeting for that matter?

No action required really, essentially I am just pointing out what I call being directionless, trib.al and selective in upnd.
