A-35-year-old man of Chiparamba in Kasenengwa district has sustained serious injuries after being hit by a Zambia Police Service vehicle. The man was attempting to cross the famous Umodzi highway in Chipata district. The incident happened at 13:20 hours on Saturday Market Zebra crossing.

Eastern Province Police Commissioner Lackson Sakala confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Lackson Phiri. Mr. Sakala said Phiri is currently receiving medical attention at Chipata central hospital.

He said Phiri was hit by a Toyota Landcruiser registration number ZP2001B driven by Patrick Mulenga, aged 39 of New Police camp in Chipata. Mr. Sakala said the victim sustained suspected fractures on both legs, a cut on the head and a swollen forehead.

He explained that the accident happened when the motor vehicle in question was over-taking another vehicle and in the process hit into Phiri, who was on the pedestrian crossing and moving from North to South direction.

Mr. Sakala said the vehicle in question was carrying 10 suspects while moving from West to the East. The Eastern Province Police Commissioner stated that the vehicle had no damages.
