Bus and Taxi operators servicing the Kalulushi-Lufwanyama road have with immediate effect reduced the fares by 38 percent following an improved road network in the area.

The Lufwanyama District Council, as well as the bus and taxi operators have confirmed the development to ZANIS, after a meeting held in the district.

UPND Lufwanyama Council Chairman said the decision by bus operators has shown that people were appreciative of the development taking place in the area.

Mr. Moses Chiyuka who was also elated by the development said it has greatly reduced people’s transportation costs in the district.

He also revealed that a new route has been introduced from Kitwe to Lufwanyama via Kalulushi.

And Kalulushi-Lufwanyama station master, Alex Munyamata, said previously they were being charged charge K40 from Kalulushi to Lufwanyama because the road was in a deplorable state, but was happy that the fare has been dropped to K25 per person.

Meanwhile government has also commissioned the gravel road, constructed by Kagem Mining Company in Lufwanyama district.

Lufwanyama District Commissioner Miniver Mutesa who officially commissioned the 90 kilometer stretch of road thanked the mining company for the gesture.

Ms. Mutesa further called on all the mining firms operating in the district, to emulate Kagem by giving back to the community.

And Kagem Mine General Manager, Sanjeev Kumar, said the construction of the road was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

Mr. Kumar said the new road now connects Chief Nkana and Chief Lumpuma’s chiefdoms.

  2. And why say Upnd Council Chairman as if there’s also a PF council chairman for Lufwanyama. He is the council chairman simple.
