Marketeers in Kabwe appeal for garbage collection

Share

Kabwe District Marketeers Chairperson, Collins Mumba has advised the local authority to find alternative dumping site to the current one near green market in the main business district.

Mr Mumba says the municipal council in the area should find apart from finding an alternative dumpsite also intensify cleaning up the place to avoid diarrhea diseases such as cholera.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Kabwe yesterday, Mr Mumba said KMC should with the onset of the rains move in quickly and remove the piles of garbage that have become a health hazard to traders especially fresh food handlers.

He lamented that currently piles of garbage have become a public nuisance adding that the garbage in area had even started blocking the drainage system which might result into floods if unchecked.

Mr Mumba has however urged every well-meaning trader at the market to take part in the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Health campaign which has been moved to the last Friday of every month.

Meanwhile, a trader, Kunda Kante, also added his voice and said the local authority should quickly relocate the garbage site which he said has become unpleasant.

Mr Kante observed that the current situation is a time bomb especially that there are restaurants within the vicinity.

And Kabwe Municipal Council (KCM) Public Relations Manager, Waluka Mwaekwa, has assured the traders that the garbage will soon be collected.

Mr, Mwaekwa has, however, encouraged the residents to make use of the refuse bins provided by the local authority as opposed to indiscriminate throwing of litter.

  1. The Kabwe Municipal Council officials should be fired, every last one of them. They’re doing nothing but just lazing around. When are you people ever going to learn that cleanliness is one number priority in the city ? You’ll only wake up and start panicking when a deadly disease such as cholera beaks out. You all need to be fired. Lazy bums.

    • We stopped Ba Edgar from cleaning rubbish, he should find something better.
You marketeers go to Mushanga and let him clean for you, Ba Edgar nabakula.

  2. Mentally retarded not only labelling language but inappropriate and unprofessional. The world has shifted from seeing a disability or a problem but rathet to see a person first. Acceptable and appropriate langauge in describing the girl would be “a person with mental disability” not a retarded person NO.

  3. The best way to tackle the indiscriminate throwing of rubbish by members of the public is for GRZ to introduce a environmental awareness subject in primary schools.

Almost all the people have had some sort of primary education, if they are taught to dispose rubbish resposibly, look after our water supplies and natural forests , the impact will be almost immediate ……

  4. In the near future garbage will be collected by robots. With the present garbage people fixing and maintaining these robots.Peter Carlos Hinds.Barbados Caribbean.
