The Zambia Railways Limited says restoration works on the Chipata- Mchinji Railway Line on the Zambian side have been completed.

Company Acting Public Relations Manager Sombe Ng’onga however said restoration works on CEAR Railways in Malawi are still in progress and train movements between Chipata and the Port of Nacala will only be operationalised by mid-January, 2019, when the works are expected to be completed.

Mrs. Ng’onga said that Zambia Railways appreciates the patience exhibited by its business clients and members of the public during the period the restoration works were being carried out on the Chipata-Mchinji Railway line.

On 26th December, 2018, the Chipata Mchinji Railway line was temporarily closed following a wash away due to heavy rains on both the Zambian and Malawian sides.

Zambia Railways Limited operates the Chipata-Mchinji Railway line on a stretch of 24 kilometres from Chipata in the Eastern province connecting with CEAR Railways in Malawi and CDN Railways of Mozambique up to the Port of Nacala.

  1. Most of the ideas which are being implemented were conceived by UNIP regime. The succeeding governments have made very little efforts in implementation of the ideas which UNIP put forth; failed to improve the operations and profitability of state companies including the giant ZCCM; sold most of the state companies at a give away price; the money realized from the sales of the state companies did not go to create new industries or expansion of agriculture; even the money from the sale of the government houses to sitting tenants disappeared in thin air, supposed to be used in building other houses. Today, the learned have made Zambia progress slowly in the economic development.

  2. Pliz bloggers, tell the min of tpt(Mr B Mushimba)2 draft & present a law 2 ban foreign truck e.g Tz trucks from carrying any goods in our country coz thats what they’ve done(Tz Govt)2 our fuel tanker transporters. When they bring goods here, they shud go bak empty(icibata)& load in there country not even copper so that our truckers can have biznes 2 haul up2 Dar.

  3. Coz i read that tankers came bak from TZ with half loaded fuel according 2 their new law. Now,what’s that?Mano yakutucinga & tufwile twabacinga as
as well & let Tazara haul the fuel from TZ & when it reaches, our truckers will b distributing 2 all the storage facilities coz balya umundemwa & insansa kucinjanya.

  4. I’m none the wiser. Is this railway track for goods transport only or will public travel on passenger trains too? Chipata views are so great, we need to capitalise for tourism.
