Mubanga stunned after axed from Nkana’s Abidjan trip

Midfielder Kelvin Mubanga appears shocked by his omission from the Nkana squad that has travelled to Cote d’Ivoire to face San Pedro this weekend in their 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup pre-group stage final leg date in Abidjan.

Mubanga was dropped from the Nkana team – three days after declining a handshake from coach Beston Chambeshi when he was substituted in the first half of Saturday’s first leg tie in Kitwe.

He was yellow carded in the 30th minute of the first leg against San Pedro on January 12 that Nkana won 3-0 at Nkana Stadium prior to his substitution.

“I was not told anything. I just knew that I had been dropped when my name was not mentioned during the team announcement. I guess I didn’t train accordingly,” Mubanga said.

The midfielder confirmed apologising to the technical bench and his team mates after Saturday’s incident.

“Just before training on Tuesday, I apologised to the entire technical bench and my team mates,” Mubanga said.

Meanwhile, Nkana left for Abidjan on Wednesday afternoon ahead of Sunday’s final leg tie.

A draw or a 2-0 loss will suffice to see Nkana qualify to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage for the first time since 2014.

  1. Kelvin Mubanga should have the last player to behave the way he did for declining a handshake from his coach. He should know that discipline is paramount in any game, let alone football. However, it is nice that he has shown remorse for his behaviour.

  3. Did he exhibit indiscipline? Yes he did. Well done coach these are some of the things that make our Footballers not to progress, switch on.

  4. Useless coach, he does not face the boy to tell him to his face. He opts to drop him from the team, and the team suffers. The boy should have felt it in his pocket. Let him lose some weeks allowance, then he suffers alone and the team is not affected.

  5. Wrong move who is he punishing the boy, team, himself or the team.if they loose away who is going to be affected most the boy, himself, or team.To me the team will be the most affected then himself and the boy last meaning its a useless decision and management should avoid such. This should have been done after and probably verbal talk.Treat them as your children do not be so harsh.
