Boy drowns in Luapula river

An eight-year-old boy of Mulundu chiefdom in Mwense district has drowned in the Luapula river.

Luapula Province Police Commissioner Elias Chushi confirmed the development in Mwense and named the deceased as Mutima Mbola of Kambabwe village.

Mr. Chushi said the incident happened on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. He said the deceased boy had gone swimming in the river with two of
his friends when the accident happened.

Mr. Chushi explained that the boy reportedly sat on a rock near the bank but slipped into the river and was carried away by the heavy current.

The body has not yet been found and the search is still underway.
