Mighty beat Prisons Leopards to make big statement

Share

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers made a roaring start back in the FAZ Super Division on Sunday following a 3-0 home win over fellow promoted side Prison Leopards at Shinde Stadium to go second in Pool A of the 2019 transitional season.

But first place in Pool A went to Zanaco who hammered visiting Red Arrows in their Lusaka derby at Sunset Stadium.

John Ngoma, Mathews Macha and Brian Chewe were on target for the nine-time champions who have made a quick return to the FAZ Super Division following their demotion in 2017.

Mighty have been beaten to top spot by seven-time champions Zanaco who routed Arrows 4-1.

Tafadzwa Rusike scored a first half brace starting with a 30th minute strike and a 40th minute penalty, Rogers Kola added the third in the 65th minute before Ernest Mbewe completed the rout in the 90th minute.

Francis Simwanza scored Arrows consolation in the 38th minute.

Meanwhile, defending champions Zesco United will commence their title defence on Wednesday when they visit Green Buffaloes in their opening Pool A fixture in Lusaka.
