President Edgar Lungu has paid glowing tribute to the Catholic Church for supplementing government’s efforts in providing quality education.

President Lungu said government appreciates the unwavering support it has been receiving from the Catholic Church in the education sector.

He assured the church that government will continue supporting noble causes being undertaken by the church to improve the standard of education in the country.

“The effort of the Catholic Church to enhance human development through quality education are highly appreciate,” he stated.

The Head of State said this last evening during the gala dinner organised by the Archdiocese of Lusaka to fundraise for the construction of the first boys’ secondary school boarding in Lusaka.

President Lungu saluted the church for undertaking a project to construction a boarding school.

He said the decision to build the school is a right step towards increasing the number of boarding schools in Lusaka.

President Lungu revealed that Lusaka has a few boarding schools which are mostly run by the private sector.

He bemoaned that the situation has left parents and the boy child with limited choice for boarding schools.

Mr. Lungu has since implored other stakeholders and the private sector to support the project embarked on by the Catholic Church.

The President said the Catholic Church should not be left alone but noted that concerted efforts are required if the project is to be successful implemented.

President Lungu said by building the anticipated school, the church is giving back to the congregants and the community.

He pointed out that the plans to build a boys’ boarding school is a testimony of the Catholic Church’s commitment to providing quality education.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has urged the church to continue working with government in promoting unity and peace in the country.

He stressed that government should not be left alone in championing stability and peace.

And the President pledged a contribution of K1 million towards the construction of the boys’ boarding school.

Meanwhile, Lusaka Archbishop Alick Banda said once the school project is completed, it will help to impart good morals and values in the pupils.

Dr. Banda noted that the church will endeavor to raise responsible future leaders through the provision of quality education.

Speaking at the same event, Fundraising Committee Interim Chairman Venansio Mutati thanked President Lungu for accepting to grace the event.

Mr. Mutati assured President Lungu that the Catholic Church will continue to support government’s infrastructure development agenda through constructing various pieces of infrastructure.

He noted that the school will help to provide education opportunities to street kids.

Mr. Mutati said with quality education, street kids can be transformed into responsibility citizens.

The catholic have been a breath of fresh air.

I would like to see him stay on in 2026 when his SECOND term comes to an end.

People are happier in the regime compared to Mwanwasa chiluba or KK eras

    Thanks

    • This is a stark difference with some churches that breath fire collecting tithes and displaying miracles yet have nothing to show for supporting the same communities they fleece save for thier flamboyant lifestyles expensive taste and are so eager to rip rewards that they seem to have forgotten the example of christs humility and the rewards in heaven!

    • Shameful that Catholic church is taking over government responsibility.
Don’t buy Presidential Jets and funnel the money to building schools
Don’t build “new statehouse” and funnel the money where it is most needed, education
Don’t buy “Wheelbarrows” at exorbitant prices, use the money where it is needed most
      …and the list goes on…

  2. Because it was fundraising dinner for catholic leaders, the president was invited in time.why didn’t they do so on launch day of national dialogue?

And Why HH was not invited to take part in the same fundraising event?

    Hypocrisy at its highest level.

  3. The Catholic Church has since 1906 built very beautiful boarding schools. This gesture must not be politicised. Other churches should just emulate and not just make noise day in day out asking for financial blessings. When blessed with tithes and offerings, they buy expensive cars, houses and send their kids to expensive private schools. It’s good the President supported the church’s effort. God bless the church and his Excellency, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

    • And you have no idea where they got all their richies…this is why education of self is important as you will be thanking your friend who has a brothel for employing your daughter thinking she works in a Motel.

  4. If schools like kabulonga, Hilcrest or st Francis are benefiting from govt grants then its not only unfair to many poorer rural schools but may also sound scandalos for the exorbitant fees they charge make them relatively richer. They ought to come out more sincerely and sympathetic by forgoing govt funds so they re channelled to more needy institutions

  5. Attending a gala dinner at short notice is more important than attending a national dialogue even after informing the head of state 14 days in advance.

    • There was no invitation to the President for the useless national dialogue. The gala dinner was a fundraising event for a Boys’ School – the first in Lusaka.

  6. Comment:keep it up lungu don’t worry that’s the opposition they opposition oppose about every thing, that’s why they are called opposition, their job is to oppose,

  7. Make St Edmunds secondary School in Mazabuka a boarding school once again..it has produced very good citizens of this country, more especially when the Jesuit Brothers were running it…why is it a day school anyway?

    • More Boys Schools need to be revitalized – there has been a total dilution of these schools with some of them being turned into co-education schools.

  8. Cheap politicking by the disgraced visionless leader. Tribesman Alick Banda is trying to help him make up for his shunning of the church=led launch of the dialogue. Wako niwako.Alick is the most corrupt Catholic bishop in history.

    • Explains why the principled no noncense former Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu would not get on with the corrupt Edgar Lungu! Birds of a feather flocking together, perhaps? Alick Banda’s cozing up with Edgar does not is very suspect.
