Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi has told his charges that they need to show their 2019 title intent by winning home games starting with Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 6 game against Pool B leaders Green Eagles.
Nkana on Wednesday begin their challenging job of clearing their five-match league backlog following their CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal elimination last week.
“We have to do well especially at home. To win the league you have to start at home. We are playing Green Eagles and that’s a stubborn team but all we need to do is to prepare very well for the game on Wednesday and I am sure the boys will come out good,” Chambeshi said.
The match will come four days after Nkana beat their ailing archrivals Power Dynamos 2-0 away in the big Kitwe derby across the road at Arthur Davies Stadium.
That game was Nkana’s first league date since ending their continental obligations.
“It wasn’t easy in the derby and the team is fatigued after playing a big game like that one but we will put our heads together to see how we will handle the game against Green Eagles,” Chambeshi said.
The pressure is also on Nkana to redeem themselves at home where they lost 2-1 to Lumwana Radiants on March 30 in their last league home game.
But Nkana will continue to be without strikers Walter Bwalya and Fred Tshimenga including midfielder Harrison Chisala who are all out with long-term injuries.
Nkana are seventh on 12 points, twelve points behind leaders Eagles who come into the match on the back of an important 1-0 away win over Buildcon whom they toppled from top spot on Good Friday in Ndola.
Meanwhile, Nkana have won all their last four home games against Eagles but another win on Wednesday will see them stay put in sixth but edge them closer to the fringes of the top five where Napsa Stars occupy fifth spot on 17 points.
