Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia partners Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce

The Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia has partnered with the Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations to accelerate the work of the Zambia-Ethiopia Business Forum.

Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba said Government has shifted focus in line with the Seventh National Development Plan from political to economic diplomacy.

He said this was to ensure that Zambia maximizes benefits from countries of accreditation in Foreign Missions.

Mr. Mwamba who is also Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa said in view of this, the Embassy has embarked on an aggressive campaign to maximise on the economic benefits that Zambia could realise from Ethiopia and countries of extra accreditation which included Sudan and Djibouti.

He said trade between the two states averages about $200 million which could be dramatically scaled up with exports from Zambia such as sugar which Ethiopia is urgently looking for.

And Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce Secretary General, Getachew Regassa has welcomed the proposed formation of the Zambia Ethiopia Business Forum, saying it is a sure means of fast-tracking trade and investment between the private sector players of both countries.
Mr. Getachew said this when Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba paid a courtesy call on him.
He emphasised that the Business Forum will create a platform for the private sector to engage and discuss trade and investment opportunities existing in both countries.

Mr. Getachew said it was through platforms like the business forum that business delegation visits would be facilitated between the two countries.The Secretary General requested Mr. Mwamba to help implement the Memorandum of Understanding that the Chamber signed with the Zambia Chamber of Commerce in 2017.

He said he is happy that Mr. Mwamba has expressed commitment to revive the MoU and go a step further to propose the establishment of the Zambia-Ethiopia Business Forum between the two countries.

Mr. Getachew said it is important that the MoU signed between the two Chambers of Commerce was actualised and, further stated that the envisaged Business Forum would not work in isolation but with full support from both Chambers.
And Mr. Mwamba stressed that in View of the planned launch of the operational phase of the African Continental Free Trade Area in July, 2019, the need for the private sector players of both countries to develop strategies that would ensure that they maximise benefits from the larger free market.

This is contained in a statement issued to the Media by First Secretary for Press and Tourism at the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia, Inutu Mwanza.

    • Elo lwanya, Minister Mwamba is insulting Mrs. Susane that she didn’t do anything, when he infact she should be Minister of Foreign Affairs, instead of him.

    • Mwamba insulting our intelligence …what does he think all those MUs Presidents and Ministers sign are for. The chap craves publicity like a moth to a lamp.

    • Jealousy down. Mwamba is the only high commissioner who tries to understand what that office should try and facilitate. The rest of them just sit & eat.

  2. That’s Mwamba for you always busy trying grab every limelight anywhere possible….why not facilitate partnership with Zambia Chamber of Commerce….what capacity do youu have to deal Addis Ababa CC…at some point you are going to contact ZCC.

    What trade do we have with Ethiopia amounting to 200$ million. ??

  4. I for one think Mwamba is 100% better that most of those ambassadors we have.
    You have the likes of fr Frank Bwalya in Australia who is never heard of, just wan.king with kangaroos

    In SA Bwalya engaged with the Zambian community and was quite active establishing business links,

    Should be posted to the USA , Japan or a major European country in my opinion.

Seriously i am one of those who don’t buy cheap politics,but i know people just read news and comment,Mr Mwamba is one of the hard workers i have met,he changed the South African Embassy,for once we felt to be proud Zambians,he is not the first ambassador zambians have worked with in South Africa, but he made a big difference,mind you i don’t like the man but i like the way he works,for the first time the embassy was so open to any Zambian and the staff was giving good service,because the fish starts rotting from the head and Mr Mwamba was a fresh head,i only hope the new guy will keep the same spirit,in short Mwamba is humble,lets give credit where it is due,let us not be hear say specialist, i promise you some people commenting here they have never even seen the outside of zambia,the…
