Zambia has a lot to learn from Botswana for having no Political Tensions after an Election

Share

President Edgar Lungu says Zambia has a lot to learn from Botswana how that country transfers power after an election without tension.

President Lungu says Botswana has been able to conduct a smooth handover of power from one leader to another since Independence, which he says is commendable.

He also says it is not healthy that the country should experience political tension after elections.

Speaking to ZNBC News in an interview in Gaborone today President Lungu urged parliamentarians to learn from Botswana’s experience and come up with a constitution that reduces tension and ensures an orderly handover of power.

He said all MPs should debate the Constitution bill number 10 which is in parliament with the interests of the nation at heart.

President Lungu who was in Gaborone to witness the swearing-in ceremony of President Mokgweetsi Masisi after his re-election wondered why some MPs shun their responsibility to their electorate and the nation by boycotting parliamentary sessions.

He said it is sad that a certain grouping of Parliamentarians abscond parliament just because they have been instructed to do so by their political leaders.

And President Lungu says the country must avoid the 2016 scenario where the announcement of election results was delayed.

He observed that such a scenario caused panic among citizens.

    • F00l1$h Bosses uyu Munthu ! You want people to be infringed on their rights while you behave as if you are the custodian who can dish them out as u want ! Bwafya kwena ifipuba ifi

    • The focus should be on how the elections themselves are handled…there will be no tensions if the elections are free and fair as is the case in Botswana. The fact that he is taking about the period after elections makes me believe the actual result is already a foregone conclusion…

    • Thank you your excellency for the good observations. You at least followed my advice to observe and then sit next to Mnangagwa. Sir, the only way to have free and fair elections is to allow the opposition to campaign without restrictions and to get rid of pf cadres from the ECZ. Seriously consider taking stern disciplinary action on your cadres, Did you hear what they disturbance and destruction they did in Chongwe over the weekend? Were you aware of their actions? They are making you really unpopular.
Finally, do something on the load shedding. The festive period is a few weeks away.

    • Suddenly the PF surrogates have found a voice kwena bwafya ….when it comes to the glaring failures of the PF which have drowned this country they go into hiding abena Sharon you can never be Patriots u remind me of the people in the Kaunda era that used to falsely warn people that if u introduce multipartyism the country will plunge into war fusekeni you are children of the devil that want to perpetuate activities of self serving rats like your self proclaimed humble leader and his minions

    • Listen, I am respective of Our country President. It’s not his fault he is where he is……..I just can’t believe how people can be manipulated to believe the Dununa Reverse sh.ii.it that bought this guy to power. Having said that, the above in my opinion is the dumbest comment expected from our leader, we will not learn anything from Botswana for as long as HIM and his EC have nothing to learn. It would have made sense if he had said, “I HAVE SOMETHING LO LEARN”, as long as he wants to push it over on to the Zambian people it disqualifies this nonsense.
ONLY an EDUCATED fuu.l will fall prey to this nonsense. Believe this guy at your own peril.

    • Zambia has a knack to want to learn from its neighbours, some we helped liberate. It should be the other way round. We are still waiting for the report on political violence in. 2016. If this report is made public perhaps that would be a good start

  1. All but H² refutes election results.
    Are you not shocked?

Yeeaah, Ookay, even his dad could not accept the 2001 election results.
    It runs in the blood.

Upndead and UPND always refuse to accept defeat especially when they are second. Push them to third, mwe.

I guarantee you that 2021 will be loaded with court petitions again.

He has even taught his young u5 ALN fellow in Zimbabwe to behave funny post electoral people’s verdict. What a sham he is.
    Yangu! Aba bankusa eeh!

    • The problem he organises people from LUSAKA and takes them to polling stations and he thinks he has numbers. I mean CHAWODISH.

    • HH has been participating and losing elections for 20 years, and it has been a peacfull 20 years , how come only now with lungu do we have caders killing and brutallising people ???

    • Look at the above comments, he/she/it thinks the core issue here is ferrying people to the polling stations, really is this the core issue?
      Awe..mweeee.. No further comment

  2. Though still a developing country, Zambia is one of the African nations that has a fast-growing economy that is very friendly with a vast number of businesses. To further enhance the country’s development, the government of Zambia has stipulated very enterpreneur-friendly policies. This is to encourage entrepreneurs and investors to explore the various business sectors in the country.

If you have the ambition to start a business in Zambia, whether small ,medium or large scale; then the following sectors are the hottest right now.

    1. Energy
Due to increased economic activities and expansion by the mines, there is a deficit of hydroelectricity generation capacity, despite the fact that Zambia is an exporter of electricity.
Electricity is the most important catalised which can helps…

    • Great points, but we need to get rid of seven of president Lungu’s ministers, plus four fifths of the nations MPs. Both in the PF and UPND.

  3. Tswanas are the most politically civilized Africans. This is normal for them. Also who keeps making the president dress up in Safari suits? It will give people PTSD from KK’s dictatorship years.

  4. The GOOD, The BAD and the UGLY. That is the picture above. In political terms, the Botswana president President Mokgweetsi Masisi is the ‘GOOD’ and president lungu is the ‘BAD’ because he has potential, but still clings to Jean, Vincent yes Bwana Mwale, Chitotela, Luo etc. The other you can finish for your selves, Munanagwa is ………………………………………………

  5. Shaless lungu …….congratulating his friends when under him Zambia has seem exponential raises in political violence, tribalisim and corruption……

For the first time in our history , amnesty international even cited Zambia for democratic abuses under lungu…..

    Corrupt thieving pompwe this lungu…..

    ..

  6. His words and actions for some reason always run parallel I wonder why. Lungu carries a lot of deadweight in terms of his ministers but yet never does anything to relieve himself of that unwanted weight. He does the running exercises but for some reason never really learns of how the experience talks to him about his toxic government. He knows what do to get rid of toxic stuff in his body so he could stay healthy but still runs a very toxic government. Cut off them that pull you back or weigh you down.

  7. But why does His Excellency have to be interviewed by ZNBC in foreign lands? Why does he have this poor, irritating and unhelpful habit of making important pronouncements about his country from foreign lands? Surely he could make such important statements via a press conference at state house where he could answer any questions that citizens have. Because he does not do so, we have a proliferation of “fake” news which should actually be called “guess news” foethat is what it is: starve the people of news and they will guess what is happening and opposition will feed on that.

  8. Botswana used to learn from Zambia, Zambian President acknowledging that that we need to learn from.Botswana proves that there is something fundamentally wrong in leadership of Zambia. Mainza Chona used to say, “Shamena Shame”

Look who is talking… does he even mean what he says? If only he can stop rigging and stealing elections then we will definitely have learned from Botswana. And if only he could stop the corruption that has made him and his minions filthy rich then we would have learned from Botswana. Botswana is a beacon of democracy not only in Africa but the entire world and they have the best performing economy in Africa… it’s simple: their leaders truly, without question, serve the interests of the country and their people. They don’t go into politics to enrich themselves. They respect the will of the people, hence they never steal elections and undermine govt institutions.

You sure can learn a lot from them, only if you were capable of learning. How I wished my Barotse people were part of…

…How I wished my Barotse people were part of this country… they have a lot in common with the Tswanas (language; respect; behaviour; intelligence and not biologically corrupt and crooked), they would be thriving by now. Yes very controversial statement I make here but I make no apologies for making considering how corruptly messed up this failed project called Zambia is.
