20 people have been arrested in relation to Saturday’s riots at Kansenseli gold mine in Mwinilunga where one person died after being shot by police.

The deceased identified as Devin Makumba from Kitwe who sustained a bullet wound on his right leg died on his way to Solwezi General Hospital.

This was after police and residents who wanted to force themselves into Kansenseli gold mine clashed.

North Western Province Police Commissioner Hudson Namachila says equipment worth K120,000 was looted while $23,550 cash belonging to a foreigner was stolen.

Mr. Namachila has revealed that the rioters had set camp at Kabanda in the bush near the mine and Police burnt down the settlement to ensure that no rioters returned.

He adds that about 100 Police officers have been deployed at Kansenseli gold mine.

The Provincial Police chief says calm has returned in the area but notes that police are keeping vigil at the mine.

    • You mean foreigners have already setup equipment? I personally feel if we could borrow euro bonds, projects such as this one would be worth investing in ourselves as a country. Let’s not make same mistakes as in the past.

    • Aristotle. surely they do. Any transaction that involves exchange of money and time adds to GDP, whether illegal or legal. Even Pamela Gondwe contributed to the GDP.

    • Thanks changa namayi for the quick response, due date for submission of his assignment is mid night tonight, but are you sure there are no distortions to the GDPs accuracy?

  1. As long as they are Zambians, let it be. You can pat yourselves on the back n pretend you’ve created employment. Same should happen to those who go to work on Black mountain.

  2. Kudos to the police. But wait…. two things.1. Have investors already set up a mine? 2. Similar occurrences have been reported on the Copperbelt before, how many arrests have been recorded?

  3. Zambia is in a hurry to development and that the current government is trying by all means to make it happened, So far so good that the rains have come it is our time to focus on planting maize at the farms, no wasting time on social media let us work. God has given us land, air, energy, and free rains.
