Information and Broadcasting Minister Dora Siliya has terminated the appointment of Mulenga Kapwepwe as ZNBC Board Chairman with immediate effect.

No official reasons have been given for the termination of Ms. Kapwepwe’s appointment but ZNBC sources have revealed that Ms. Siliya was upset after the Ms. Kapwepwe led Board opposed the appointment of Amon Jere as ZNBC Deputy Director General.

Last month, Lusaka Times exclusively revealed that Mr Jere was been lined up to take over the job of ZNBC Director General after Mr Richards Mwanza’s contract was not renewed.

Mr Jere, a telecoms Executive has no experience in broadcasting and the Board and the Unions opposed his appointment.

As a compromise, Government through Ms. Siliya went ahead and promoted ZNBC Director of Engineering Malolela Lusambo to the position of Director General but started pushing the Board to create a new position of Deputy Director General.

The move was however strongly opposed by the Board stating that the structure of ZNBC does not allow for a position of Deputy D.G.

The struggles over the appointment of Mr Jere has caused delays in him reporting for duty.

And yesterday, Ms Siliya officially announced the decision to let go of Ms. Kapwepwe but maintained the rest of the Board members.

Ms Siliya said Government has deemed it to be in public interest to nullify the appointment of Ms Kapwepwe.

“We wish to thank Ms Kapwepwe for her services as ZNBC Board Chairperson and wished her God’s Blessings in future endeavours,” Ms. Siliya said.

  1. Mulenga Kapwepwe is a very principled woman and she is better away from these characters who lack authenticity, integrity, charisma and transparency. PF is not for the pure in character. No one who associates with this party will go to the grave a clean individual. Professionals have been soiled. I know they couched the termination later to embarrass you but you have emerged a hero. You stood your ground to defend the ZNBC charter against wolves.

    • Why doesn’t PF go professional executive search for professionals. This idea of just appointing cadres to parastals not good. ZNBC is unable to pay salaries; not a single govt company is profitable. Why?

    • In South Africa when their minister did the interference the board members started quitting and the opposition made noise in parliament. In Zambia???

    • But fi PF are true idyots… from Foote to now their own aspiring Female President Kapwepwe?
HH should pounce on Mulenga Kapwepwe as his running-mate for 2021….
eeeeeeesh that can make UPND 67%, PF 19% votes.
But ine ndi mwaume, I ythink beyond any government spokesperson.

    • This is the work of Dora Siliya and RB.

Kapwewe wanted a Bemba {DG} and Dora wanted a Ngoni {DG}. The nation cannot develop when we put/appoint people in jobs that they cannot do, but rather through their affiliation or connections.

    • Animal farm indeed….remember when i questioned the appointment of Jere….remember when i said exit Mwanza( Eastener)…enter Jere (Easterner)…and Mwanza is now a diplomat….and what’s up with all these big money appointments…director this, director that for a loss making ZNBC….corruption under Lungu is done in broad daylight….no shame…..this PF government should be shown the exit door in 2021….and whoever forms government please dont welcome anyone from the current PF government

    • All these big money guzzling appointments with hefty allowances….and what does these so called boards of directors do….i noticed its very common in poor countries….you don’t hear such positions in the USA…just one CEO is enough to run an organization…not a bunch of board directors just wasting tax payers money….arranging meetings in Lodges just engage in adultery with fellow board members…

    • In Zambia all these boards of directors are just a vehicle for orgies in Lodges….these morons dont do anything…just uchende ku ma board meetings in Siavonga or Livingstone

    • Let Mr. Kapwepwe rest in peace. He was a dignified man and yet some people keep milking that name to get ahead.

    • The syndrome of appointing people from a particular region is not fair, as tax is paid by all people. Siliya, this trend should come to an end please.

  2. Iyo mwandi pa Zambia napo! Surely government could not find another job for this Amon Jere? ZNBC is already struggling and the board made a wise decision to refuse to create the position of Deputy director general

  3. I expect ZNBC Unions to show support for Ms Kapwepwe. I expect the entire Board to resign in solidarity. I expect the Institute of Directors to strongly condemn the move by Ms Siliya. This is total interference on good corporate governance.

    • Nullify = make legally null and void; invalidate.

So appointments are “nullifiable” or ur ‘mindsetted’ to think only elections can be nullified!

  4. Very good Dora, you have just campaigned your party in northern and Muchinga and even Luapula. That is exactly what we are looking for. We have already confirmed that you and your colleagues are going anyway.
Now this Dora didn’t learn much from her tribunal right? Or is the bond to her brother Jere so strong that she is blind to everything else including good governance?
Sorry forgive me, good governance in PF? I must be dreaming.

  5. Zambians are fatigued from the daily dirty scandels from PF.

Can all these scandels be from nothing ?

There has to be something seriously wrong

Lungu is not fit for purpose to be presiding over such a scandel riddled GRZ.

  6. J0BS FOR “CADRES, & SP!N W!TCHDOCT0RS” who will report favourably, & conceal J0na Mukula & T@s!la Mukula’s shameless theiving.
They have already shared the M@rijuana farming deal amongst themselves & needed Dix0n J3re to do the covering up, BUT Ba Kapwepwe said NO, this is not what my S!Mon Mw@nsa Kapwepwe fought for.
    WELL DONE BA KAPWEPWE!!

  7. I THINK KAPWEPWE WAS DOING A GOOD JOB. THERE ARE NO REASONS GIVEN BY SILIYA. BUT A LOT IS ALREADY KNOWN. CAN WE FIND AS SOLUTION NOW.

  8. IF THIS IS THE LEVEL OF INTERFERENCE BY GRZ IN ZNBC, DO YOU THINK ZNBC CAN BE FAIR IN COVERING THE OPPOSITION? AM JUST THINKING.

  9. When a structure is put in place the designers in consultation with other stakeholders know what it takes. Creation of a new and for that matter a high position will result into additional funds to support the position. Iam sure ZNBC does not have money to support such an abrupt move. Remaining board members can you say something constructive. Let’s hope you will do just that to inform the public.

  10. I have said it and am saying it again, politicians should not have a hand in appointing and constituting boards of corporate bodies. It is in conflict with corporate governance. The nation, through parliament, should assemble a credible body which should be responsible for appointing directors in these boards. Most of directors who are appointed are not picked on merit. It is always on appeasement perspective. As a result, it is very difficult, for these directors to provide checks and balances. They throw their professionalism in a bin of appeasing the appointing authority. It is a shame that a nation has allowed such a thing to continue.

  11. If I were Jere, I would not accept such an appointment. Come on man, be useful to yourself you are a professional, dont be dragged in political mud and madness.

  12. AMON JERE:
“… He worked for Celtel Zambia as Sales and Distribution Director and thereafter worked as Sales and Distribution Director for Celtel Kenya. He went on to join Vodafone Ghana as Sales Director. Mr Jere then joined ZAMTEL as Chief Commercial Officer where he turned around the company within 8 months and grew the customer base by more than 200%… Mr Jere also worked for Glo Ghana as Commercial Director before joining MTN Zambia as Chief Sales and Distribution Officer where he oversaw the growth of the organisation’s market share from 39% to 53%…. “

    • @Zambian Citizen – impressive. One wonders why he would want to soil his reputation by joining politics. It is, after all, a political appointment. Mr. Jere, run! Please! You do not need this. You cannot revive a dead horse!

    • @Awe Sure-I guess it boils down to civic duty, patriotism. Vladimir Putin joked that Africans are the only race that go to advance economies, get education and exposure but fail to uplift their societies. You can’t hate the GRZ that was voted in by your fellow Zambians. PF are Zambians entrusted with the affairs of the nation, like the two previous GRZs, we will give them a chance to improve our nation. Right now upnd is failing to prove why they are better than PF. If better opposition comes up, we shall give them the mandate.

    • @Zambian Citizen – hmmm, interesting points….just wondering what patriotism you are talking about. These guys have milked the cow dry. Jere will probably want to uplift the society because he has had exposure but the mindset of these so-called servants of the people he has to work with is to enrich themselves. He will end up frustrated and join the bandwagon. Believe me, there is corruption everywhere in the world but it is done in such a way that everything functions so that the common man does not care how much the servants of the people are taking for themselves.

    • Bingo!! They have milked the cow dry. That’s the problem. PF have spent our money on infrastructure the country required. Kazungula has been using a pontoon since colonial times and in 8 years in power these guys have put a bridge there. The commodity bust hits and the economy tanks and PF are to blame for everything?? Then everyone wants to throw corruption accusations that can’t be proven?? Let’s be reasonable, please…

    • And where is the governance in this? You mean you would spend all your budget on mealie meal and leave nothing for relish? Then you choose a few to send abroad and the rest die of easily treated diseases due to lack of equipment and medicine? I could go on. There is just so much wrong going on. People can be fooled sometimes but you cannot fool them all the time. And yes, they should be to blame, they are the ones driving this runaway train.

  13. Fake News breaking: a spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has clarified that Ms Kapwepwe has not been fired, but just relieved of her position. The spokesperson bemoaned the rampant fake news that is making rounds in the country.

  14. You see, even semantics can be fake news in the eyes of the authorities that issue these statements. For example, writing to the US government to withdraw Mr Foot is different from a Demarche whatever that means.

  15. The way our country is being run very abominable. Professionalism, transparency, accountability, integrity is missing and replaced by some thing else. Zesco today has created a national state of emergency through load shedding. There is an urgent need to fiz Zesco. That is where you need a new position of deputy MD restructuring. The minister there can’t think in those levels. But at ZNBC where there is no national crisis they fight to Impose the deputy DG…..Ndeloleshafye…

  17. How I wish there were same complaints as these when mostly people from Western, Southern, and North Western provinces were being retired in the ‘national interest’.

  18. Does this government ever do anything right? All we hear are endless stories of corruption. Dora has grown a big head because she has power. Unlike you dora who has to sleep around in political circles to maintain relevance, Mulenga and her twin Chileshe seem to thrive everywhere they go because they are talented, and hardworking. Learn from them. Try and keep it classy silly Sililya also stop urinating on the bed. Stop Corrupting your bed sheets and then corrupting znbc and the govt in general.

  19. @The Nubian Princess

Kapwepwe was dignified man, my foot!

He was the Chief Architect of Zambian Tribalism.
Sata was a graduate of the KAPWEPWE SCHOOL OF TRIBALISM situated in an UNKNOWN INCOMPLETE BUILDING.

We are in this tribalism mess as a result of his tribal traits passed down through Sata and now inherited and exacerbated by Lungu. The only difference is Lungu’s is REVERSAL TRIBALISM that has unfortunately “casualtized” even the Bembas.

Kapwepwe’s tribal spirit lives on in Lungu.

Pliz spare us yo foolery of overglorification of wrong pipo!

  20. what can I say about the role ma siliya is playing here accounterbility transparency good governance leadership qualities sense of humor high self esteem professionalism competence.i don’t see these key factors been implemented by Parliament or cabinet it’s totally insane by what is been portrayed by our senior leadership by that matter, surely can someone please tell ms siliya & her colleagues to be improvising..

  21. PRESIDENT LUNGU SHOULD IMMEDIATELY MOVE IN AND FIRE DORA SILIYA BECAUSE SHES DESTROYING THE MORAL FIBER OF THE COUNTRY! THE PF IS HEADING INTO ELECTIONS IN JUST OVER A YEAR AND ZNBC IS A CRITICAL STAKE=HOLDER FOR PF, SO THIS NONSENSE MUST COME TO AN END!

  22. This is how you Zambians are dis-empowered..only inept cadres and politicians can work up anytime in the morning with a subjective mind and fire responsible people from positions!!!!!! keep on sleeping until u wake up to find all those we rely on to turn the tables for a better zambia (if it will ever be) dismissed from their respective positions!!!

  23. Wako in Wako, tiye a Njengebaso Jere tikasuke mkondo ya CliDoras Siliti! Kunya bebele ka!

  24. A judges warnings and admonitions. Is not going to stop female genital mutilation.Or polygamy which is so prevalent in Africa.Or child marriage which is part of India and Africa. These judges are just dirty old men who should be in bed.Instead of being on the bench.Peter Carlos Hinds.

  25. The same judges who are saying that parent hood should not be a condition for bail.Have children and grand children. But parent hood should be a condition for higher pay!Peter Carlos Hinds.

  26. What the judge wants is rest. And at the mental the judge could sleep all day.And still get three meals a day.Peter Carlos Hinds.

  27. The problem we have in this country is that govt appointments are based on who you know rather than what you know. This breeds mediocrity and the main reason why the govt as a whole is in moribund. Clueless people holding sensitive positions. Cry my beloved country.
