President Edgar Lungu says he is considering constituting a Commission of Inquiry into the gassing of citizens happening in the country.

President Lungu says the Commission of Enquiry will help to determine the reasons behind this evil act which has left 50 people dead in connection with cases of instant mob justice meted out on those suspected of orchestrating the act.

Addressing Parliament on National Values and Principals this morning, President Lungu however regretted that some Traditional Leaders have been fueling the mob injustice leading to the killing of citizens.

President Lungu said it is sad that the gassing of citizens has now shifted to rural areas and has warned Headmen and women fueling mob injustices that they risk facing the wrath of the law.

The President has further directed Law Enforcement Agencies to bring to an end violence and tribalism which have in the recent past characterized by elections.

The President said elections should not be used to propagate sentiments of narrow sectarian interests which have potential to divide the nation.

He has also urged politicians to collaborate and ensure that such acts are brought to an end.

Meanwhile, the President has expressed concern with the increased abuse of social media among Zambians which he said has contributed to the spreading of false information.

He has since directed the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority and the Zambia Police to bring the culprits to book.

On abuse of alcohol, the President also expressed worry that this has impacted negatively on productivity in the country and has resulted in divorces and promiscuity among Zambians.

And President Lungu is disappointed that local contractors engaged to work on infrastructure projects have failed to execute their works.

He said he expects to see Zambian contractors perform to the levels of international standards which will see them get more contracts from government.

  2. The country is in serious need of strong leadership.

Why has he been so quiet on the gassing issue?
Why is Spax involvement not being taken seriously?
Why have a costly commission of inquiry when we have a key suspect and inventive wings already?
Why only lip service on Hate Speech?
    Are Zambians safe now?

A good leader would take Zambians more seriously. We don’t deserve this mediocrity.

  3. Zambians are not misusing social media. If you want to stop the spreading of “fake news”, be transparent and hold regular news conferences. You have just confirmed that you are failing…

  4. Indeed, fake news arises for a void in information from credible sources.

Improve transparency and close the void.

  5. Lungu did this speech only to appease European ambassodors and the just arrived USA deputy amb.

We all know pf has been caught out trying to implicate HH in the gassing hoax gone wrong for them……they even entered a nolli on the case of forigne funding and importing arms to over throw lungu…….that was all part of the stitchup to implicate HH. Only the gassing hoax backfired and soured all other plans….

On political violence and tribalisim , he is again paying lip service, how long has this been going on ? And all the perpetrators are known yet they are free…

WHEN ARE THEY ACTING ON NYELA? when are they going to question him on the allegations he made about a certain tribe , we want to prove his allegations.

  7. Same old bu.llshi.t, where are the results for the inquiry on voting patterns, election violence, ritual killings etc. Even the many inquiries in late Sata’s era……..

  8. why do the abhor social media so much to extent of calling users as culprits, what about violent cadres and tribalists what are they called?

  9. Well spoken Mr President and let these people be arrested and tried in the court of law and jail them for life so that will not even stand in 2021.These are hungry mangwams and for those misusing social media,as drug enforcement are hard on marijuana let also ZICTA be serious on the misuse of social media. For ZICTA indeed this organ must be disbanded and put a new one,it is very unprofessional, incompetent, lazy and as no direction why are they supporting this evil of misuse of social media.

  10. Commission of Enquiry? He was largely unavaible when he wqas most needed, when people were suffering and dying! That is one of the best way to add to their l00t. They will use this opportunity to profit from the calamities that befell Zambians whikle they looked and did nothing.
They will arrive at an largely inflateed figure for this po!ntless excercise. All that is needed is for Zambia Police to do their job. There are various lines of enquiry they can take, after all they said some people were arrested.

  11. He can smell the “coffee”, don’t underestimate the power of the people. You spend more time and resources ordering teargas and buttons at the expense of dialogue as well as enhencing other democractic values. Guess what, social media her to correct the injustices and inequality you are presiding over.

  12. We have had countless commissions like the one he has proposed yet nothing changed. These commissions are just a means of Commissioners making some pocket money and a waste of resources. Put the same resources in proper policing and training to avoid such things in future.

  13. So ndiye kuganizo uko sure. As others have stated just strengthen the institutions that are already there and thats their job. No need to create jobs for already well-fed chaps they will just burst tumimba. Take it to the Police and ACC. Let them do their job. People need food baba and all that we can think of is a commission – really????
    Disaster!!!!

  14. Empty really. Why commission of enquiry when we have Spax? Does he know how much his commission of inquiry will cost? Trained investigators are in.the security wings, how can they be replaced by party cadres and street vendors in the name of commission.of inquiry?

  15. This president does not stop to amaze me. Very irresponsible. You are talking about tribalism when you and your party were on record and we still have videos of Nkandu Luo in Chilubi. You want law enforcement agents to act. . kikikkjkj

  16. It’s always ‘I am disappointed’ or has ‘warned’ so and so. No real robust action. His own ministers are ‘investigated’ for corruption and remain in office. They issue tribal diatribes night and day and no one touches them. Yet, during his hollow speeches, he is ‘directing’ law enforcement agencies to act against these vices. The same old story where nothing in reality happens to deal with all the retrogressive happenings in the country – most, clearly perpetrated by members of his own regime and party.

  17. Thers is a tribe in Zambia which is master minder of tribalism, who does not know this tribe.MMMMM ALAAA iweee what is your problem aiiii. The president as been preching about tribalism but its like critics are always on him any way that is why they are called critics.

  18. Considering doesn’t mean doing it. Considering and not instituting the enquiry my God what useless leadership.

  19. It seems the appointment of a new political advisor Dr Zimba is of no consequence. Edgar Lungu has done better than Sata on tribalism but it’s still below the pass mark.

  20. This is just away of running away from the issue. This is a national security matter and we have the police and intelligence from the army and shushushu who can investigate and update him. Then he can announce to the national who are the master minders of this crime. Why organinising a commision of enquiry Mr President, wasting the much needed money after spending alot more on fuel, meals, etc and paying allowances to police and army officers who were sent on Patrols all over the country. And from our experience comossions of enquiry have never produced any solutions. We just waste of money.

  21. Gassing is over and some suspects, who are going to squeal, are in Police custody. The President did not go out in public and window-dress that he is dealing with the situation. He worked behind closed doors and the results can be seen. Those who made a lot of noise wanting him to address the public – which would have given the perpetrators a lot of undue prominence, now have their tails between their legs and want to imply that the situation has come under control on its own. Shame on you guys.

  22. @ adviser
And police managed to arrest who? Why waiting to take suspects to the Court and instead blabbing about pointless commission of enquiry.
By the way, how come “gassing” has ended?
It looks that ECL has annoter jerk like you as “adviser “

  23. Should he be considering or it is his job to get to the bottom of this whole episode and persecute all individuals involved? A normal commander in chief of the Armed forces and a Humble leader would have even visited the ground to make an assessment so this never happens again. Here is Mr No Vision considering action after the damage was done and he still can’t explain how Zambian Mukula found its way in Malaysia

  24. Truth – You are clearly a very dumb individual. Your mumbled up post is devoid of any intellect – difficult to decipher any sense. Fit for you and your kind only.

  25. who told you that they want to implicate hh in the gassing issue, by the way why are you panicking with the issue of gassing? Tell us do you know the person involved. The president categorically stated that whoever is involved in these criminal activities will be visited by the long hand of the law regardless who is involved. Whether Pf member, UPND Clergy, NGO leader or any other person no one is important to be exempted . So if HH is clean why arresting him but if he will be mentioned by those already arrested, he will definitely be called to prove his innocence himself alone without any interference by anyone. If you start complaining before the arrest is made, it means you are telling the nation that he is involved. Wait not until he is arrested. But even then, who are you to defend…
