Copperbelt Minister takes a swipe at milling companies for creating an artificial shortage of mealie meal

Share

Copperbelt Province Minister, Japhen Mwakalombe has taken a swipe at some milling companies for creating an artificial shortage of mealie meal in some parts of the province.

Mr. Mwakalombe who made an impromptu visit at milling companies in Ndola expressed displeasure that despite government supplying maize through the Food Reserve Agency, some millers have taken advantage of the situation by creating an artificial shortage.

He warned that the Government will not allow the trend which he said has disadvantaged many consumers who are now panicking where and when to purchase the commodity.

Mr. Mwakalombe who was in the company of Provincial permanent secretary and Deputy, Manyando Liwalii said all FRA fed millers should immediately flood the market with mealie meal.

The Minister also directed the company to ensure its agents are closely monitored to prevent them from selling the commodity at skyrocketing prices.

And Mr. Mwakalombe has urged the milling company to stop involving in retail selling of the staple food adding this compromises competition.

Meanwhile, Jambo Milling director- Operations, Idris Mohamed appealed to the minister to intervene in the matter by making sure that the supply of maize from FRA is consistent.

  1. These nincompoops have buried their heads in the sand. The shortage is countrywide why blame millers on the copper belt. FRA does not have enough maize and so they are rationing. These are your poor agriculture policies.

  3. Useless millers. We need a concerted social effort to put these millers in their place. We need to boycott mealie meal for some time and let them know that we can do without unga by taking up other alternatives.

  4. pf ? when are you ever going to take responsibilities of your actions? When things are tough ,you begin your blame games. Your Agriculture policies are poor and uncoordinated. This blame game is a sign of failure. Namufilwa fye!

  5. As a country, we have been through this before, a clear indication of failure, and the beginning of the painful end for PF. Irreversible end, but perhaps a change of leadership can help? Question is whether PF has any capable leaders if the same failed leadership is being offered to us for another five years. The party seems to be full of jerabos who are incapable (naturally of course) of looking beyond tomorrow or even beyond their bellies and pockets

  6. PF is failing us. But again i am not surprised that this is what we are going through because our current government has made it impossible for people to know what is true and not because of their many lies.

  7. Millers on the Copperbelt know that people there are lazy buggers who don’t know which side of a hoe goes into the soil. Zmbian farmers should produce food for export as that is where the money is not this local market which wants free mealie meal. Farmers are the majority in Zambia so politicians should think before ranting about the price of mealie meal.

  8. One unmistakable sign of being a failure, is the inability to take responsibility and always pass on the blame to someone else.
That is what has charactorised this PF regime. Its always:
    1. HH
    2. The opposition
    3. External forces of regime change
    4. The church
    5. LAZ
When we have been warning you that Zambia will soon be the new zimbabwe, some ignorant cadres with no integrity have been calling us names. But look here…
    1. When MCS died mealie meal was arounf K60 today its K230
    2. When MCS died exchange rate was between 5 and 6. Today its headed to 16
    3. When Sata died our foreign reserves where above USD 4 Billion. Today almost Zero
    4. When MCS died our external debt stock was 4.7billion. 15% of GDP. Today its over over USD 11 Billion.

    1. Lungu
    2. People around him
    3. Thugs that MCS fired are now “advisors”
    4. Thieves from MMD are now in government

But its all non of their fault. Its the “external forces imof regime change”

  10. This is why I say that the people who justify pf failures only do so because their bellies depend on it.
They are lazy, and incompetent. They cant do an honest day’s work. They cant run a business, they cant keep a job. All they are fit for is the manure pile.
So all they can do is bootlick and rig elections and intimidate people so that crumbs fall their way. After they have gained their ill gotten wealth, they go and set up fake businesses that solely depend on corrupt government contracted, including selling bond paper at 3 times the price.
But once pf is kicked out, these fake businesses will collapse just like others that preceeded them. They have no competence apart from corruption. Very soon they will be back to poverty because though they have all this stolen wealth, their…

  12. This is incompetence if ever there was any yet! This government has spent ALL THEIR POLITICAL terms playing their incompetence as a political game. Guys – kwena guys – this is enough! UNIP had easy excuses like liberation wars and world oil embargoes. These goons have NOTHING – just clear INCOMPETENCE!!!! This is not funny anymore.
