I was not a Shareholder in Sun International at the time of Privatization-HH

United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has categorically denied allegations levelled against him during the privatisation Process.

Speaking when he held a press briefing on Hot FM and Diamond TV and other electronic platforms to address the allegations of his impropriety in the privatization process and his accumulation of wealth, Mr Hichilema said that he had no hand in the privatization of any mine particularly the mine in contention, RAMCOZ which was a private firm when ZANACO appointed a receiver and a private firm cannot be privatized.

Mr Hichilema further denied being a shareholder in Sun International at the time of privatization and further said that his Kabulonga house was bought through a tender process before privatization.

Mr Hichilema hoped that there is now sufficient fatigue over the rehashing of issues which peculiarly only surface at the time of elections, and at the expense of discussion over more pertinent issues affecting the nation.

Meanwhile, UPND youths yesterday afternoon held a solidarity march to President Hakainde Hichilema’s Lusaka residence in New Kasama where they assured him of uninterrupted support in the wake of numerous verbal attacks from defunct Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) leader, Edith Nawakwi and the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

Leading the youths that were drawn from the seven constituencies in Lusaka, Mr Anderson Banda who is leader of the youths in the Lusaka told Mr Hichilema that the collusion between Ms Nawakwi and the PF to remove him from the 2021 ballot had prompted them to march in solidarity with him as a way of sending a signal to the PF and its surrogate political parties that the youths would not allow any aggression against Mr Hichilema.

Mr Banda charged that it was now evident that after failing through various means to disadvantage and lessen Mr Hichilema’s chances of being a Presidential candidate for 2021 such as the failed Bill Number 10 of 2019, the PF have resorted to using its hired guns such as Nawakwi to discredit him, a situation he said would not deter Mr Hichilema from being ushered into State House in 2021.

“We shall stand by you, President HH until you are ushered into State House come August 2021. You are not alone in this fight and we shall not allow the PF Government to touch you again. We are aware of schemes by the PF to cook charges against you after realizing that they have failed to remove you from the ballot using Bill 10, we shall not allow that,” said Mr Banda.

Mr Banda also stated that the youths are resolved to stand by Mr Hichilema and that they’d stand by him and his family to ensure nothing bad happens to them.

He also stated that the country’s youths are eagerly waiting for him to become President of Zambia so that he could help in ending the numerous economic hardships that the country’s youths are going through.

“Mr President, we know that you mean well for this country; and we admire your business skills, as such, we pray that you rule this country so that we the youths can tap into your wisdom for a better Zambia. We are waiting for your leadership so that those who have stolen from the poor through the tenders, ambulances and 48 houses can account; so that FIC report findings are adequately addressed and the perpetrators are dealt with accordingly as well as how the Eurobond was used and the findings of terrorism and money laundering in the FIC report,” he said.

Mr Banda called on youths across the country to take a keen interest in the way the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is conducting itself ahead of the 2021 tripartite elections.

“Mr President, we wish to call upon the youths across the country to remain vigilant and monitor the ECZ ahead of the 2021 general elections,” he said.

And Hichilema, who was accompanied by his wife, Mutinta, expressed gratitude to the youths for the solidarity and support, stating that he is also there for the youths of the country.

“Thank you for coming to support us especially at a time that PF and its surrogates have continued to attack us. We need new leadership that will provide business opportunities to the people of Zambia. We need a leadership that will take care of the people of Zambia,” he said.

Mr Hichilema also laughed off insinuations by Ms Nawakwi that he stole a house for Lima Bank during privatization, stating that the house was purchased from TBZ in 1995 while the privatization took place in 1999.

“Thank you to all of you for coming. Sometimes we think that we are alone but when you come, we know we have support. You must also know that you are not alone, Bally is always with you. It is darkest before dawn. We have walked a long way and we are not stopping,” he said.

  6. Well done HH. Edith Nawakwi’s accusations have been dealt a big blow. Its now up to Edith to produce Evidence in Court to prove HH’s criminality. Edith shouldn’t defame HH like this. Privatization was implemented by the MMD Govt in the 1990s. Why didn’t Edith raise these issues then? Why is Edith making these allegations just b4 the 2021 Elections? Why is Edith not raising PF Corruption on the 42 Fire Tenders,48 Houses, Road Contracts, Eurobonds etc.? Why is Edith criticising a fellow Opposition Leader instead of holding the current PF Govt to account? No wonder most People believe Edith Nawakwi is a PF Surrogate. Edith should respect the Courts and provide evidence on HH’s criminality. HH is innocent until he is found guilty in Court. Edith should co-operate during trial in Court…

  7. Let’s stop yapping fruitlessly and carelessly now that this case is under the able handling of honorable Judiciary. All we need is not to see you start having dark corner meetings trying to make unproven statements.
The courts will determine that for the noble people of the Republic of Zambia.
In the end, he who last laughs, will definitely laugh the very best.
Kikikikikikijukija kikikikikikijukija the hysteria, scoundrel and weirdo of this kleptoh² pompwe never ceases to amuse me.

  8. Another failed tactic by PF. What is interesting is the fact PF becomes excited about the issue of Privatization as we are nearing General Elections as a way of discrediting HH. Once Lungu is sown in they become mute about the issue. Why has PF, with access to all the information pertaining to Privatization failed to sue HH? This is a clear sign that this is all malice.

  9. Hh thinks we are slow. That is exactly our point. You started benefiting after the privatisation process once you had sown your illegal conflicted transactions during privatisation. There is also evidence of conflict occurring during the privatisation process. Look it’s like me as director of higher intelligence within OP putting a tender out for certain services and writing down an internal guideline of what company we should go for. Then me leaving my job and turn setting up a company that meets the requirements in line with the internal guideline that I write . Me then winning the tender and then saying I was not in government when I got the tender so there was no conflict. This is exactly what that boy hh is saying. Some of us are not slow like hh thinks. The chap will answer in…

What type foolish people are you?

It’s nosense and stupor to claim that he stole without proving your allegations.

    PF must go!

  12. People are mixing issues. HH is a Non-Chairman of Sun International Livingstone. It follows therefore that HH didn’t own Shares in Sun International as alleged by Edith Nawakwi. After completing his assignment with ZPA, HH was invited to sit on the Board of Sun International Livingstone. HH was not a Govt employee so we don’t see any conflict of interest. HH gave a service to ZPA and was only appointed Chairman of the Board after his consultancy with ZPA had ceased.

You have nothing against that man, apart from your hatred coming from your fear that if he became the President you will loose the cow that you are milking now. Period.
You are a hypocrite who is here to engineer PF propaganda and nothing else.

  16. Will HH also explain how his wealth shot to millions of dollars during privatization? Where did the money come from and why?

  17. HH did not say he has no shares in Sun hotel. He said he was not a shareholder at the time of privatisation of Sun hotel. This statement agrees with what Nawakwi was saying that after privatisation they learnt HH was now part of Sun Hotel. And this is the issue that needs explanation. In my view this is a moral or ethical issue and not criminal. As for the house Lima bank possessed from TBZ, the issue is was HH part of the people liquidating Lima Bank? If yes then the issue of inside dealings arise whether the house was sold prior or after liquidating Lima Bank assets which he was part.

  18. Stop twisting facts, nobody said HH was a shareholder before privatization. The question was, did he have any interests in the assets during privatization? if so, did he declare his interest? After privatization, a chap called Sonny Hichilema was implicated in some of the assets. Was this his twin brother? cousin or garden boy? We want to know so that we can exonerate the supreme leader of UPND.

  19. HH is just conflicting himself. Anyway he has gone to court so the truth will come out in court. How can a house which belonged to Lima Bank now belong to TBZ. He’s a big joker. “Let’s wait and see”, as late Dennis Liwewe would say when the chips are controversially down! And he’s blaming the Rwandese referee!

If we are really honest with ourselves as a country, we would have been coming hard on the MMD government of Fredrick Chiluba which included Nawakwi, Katele Kalumba, Sata and the like. These are the people who made the decision privatize public companies and stole and pocketed all of the proceeds. The amount a lot of these companies were sold for and the conditions that governed the selling was for the most part dictated by the IMF and the World Bank, partly because these companies at the time were broke and had so much debt.

It was never the consultants’ fault and we know it if we are honest. But even the little that we got from the sale if we had put that back into social, education, health for the people, we would have been better off as a country. Instead the rest ended up in the…

…Instead the rest ended up in the MMD chaps’ pockets and into Swizz banks.
As for the consultants buying shares into these companies after they were sold, I doubt there was any law, legally, morally or ethically that prevented them from doing so. Most of these companies were bought by foreigners and you have to praise and give credit to any Zambian that bought any shares in these companies. Regardless anything wrong with that program should be blamed on the ruling politicians… same way Lungu is today selling Zambia to the Chinese.

  22. KZ please hold a press conference or go to radio and make similar allegations so that you can have an opportunity to produce evidence in court. Don’t hide here commenting we’re it doesn’t really matter. What we say here has no consequences! Can you tell us if Lungu is now done with gassing so that we can sell the gas masks please.

  24. KZ while we are at it tell us how Lungu made a 1000 % increase in net worth in less than 2 years. I would like todo the business he did! Answering that on his behalf is a good service to Zambia.

You can also tell us about the debt that Zambia has and how much Zambian’s should contribute in 2021 to pay it back. We can’t continue leaving with debt we need to pay it back and then remove those in charge to avoid the scourge returning. Do you agree that is the way to do it as a reasonable man?

  25. ACC Has no tooth. They are told who to arrest and when. Judges are told what the judgements should be! In some cases criminals are told what to steal. Therefore, we can predict everything. Only thing is we can’t change a thing until marketeers and other poverty stricken people realize they have power to change things

  26. Benefiting from privatisation duly bane is not a crime. The sale of mosi o tunya was cleared at all stages during evaluation by the Government representative including ZPA period. Eo chakalipa akainyonge. Moreover, if you work for such international auditing companies, you automatically become a share holder and you be given conditions of an expatriate. H.H was getting paid in pounds and he was investing wisely.

  27. @ Mwewa, malabish, this is the sort of inferiority complex we don’t want. You think international Auditing companies don’t mess up? You honestly think if someone is paying you in pounds then you are special? Which auditing company gives automatic shares to take over their clients? I’m sure you know some high profile scandals conducted by the likes of KPMG in South Africa, if not I urge you to do some research. Auditing firms have to adhere to strict regulations however if you have weak systems then you are susceptible to fraud. It amazes me when some people think that attaching international to anything means you have made it big. Wake up! International is stealing from you.
