Zambia Army, ZITHS ink MoU to boost tourism and hospitality skills

The Zambia Army and the Zambia Institute for Tourism and Hospitality Studies (ZITHS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing skills in tourism and hospitality among army personnel.

Army Director General of Education, Libraries and Museums, Brigadier General Kennedy Sialoombe, emphasised the partnership as a significant milestone, highlighting the Zambia Army’s commitment to national development and capacity building beyond defense.

The media reports that Brig Gen Sialoombe, stated that a modern soldier is not only a defender but also a contributor to the socio economic fabric of the country.

He noted that the partnership seeks to empower Zambia Army personnel with crucial skills in tourism and hospitality, enabling them to provide world-class services in areas such as protocol, catering, events management, and tourism within military establishments.

Brig Gen Sialoombe further said the skills acquired are expected to benefit officers both during service and after.

He further underscored the power of collaboration, saying the MoU demonstrates a shared belief that education and training are key drivers of transformation.

“By working together, we can foster a culture of continuous learning and equip our personnel with skills relevant to the evolving demands of the 21st century,” he said.

ZITHS Executive Director, Anne Sibanda, noted that the institution is working towards making its curriculum industry responsive and tailoring programmes to adapt to the evolving world with technology and embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI).

She assured the Zambia Army that ZITHS is committed to implementing the MoU.

“We assure the Zambia Army that we will work diligently to ensure the successful implementation of this Memorandum of Understanding, and we look forward to a fruitful partnership,” she said.
