Hamududu Says He Will Not Contest Presidency, Declares Support for Hichilema

Party for National Unity and Progress (PNUP) President Highvie Hamududu has announced that he will not contest the August 13 general elections and that his party will support President Hakainde Hichilema for the presidency.

Hamududu said the decision was reached after the party reviewed what it described as positive leadership demonstrated by President Hichilema during his first term in office.

He cited several economic developments, including the appreciation of the Kwacha, reduced inflation and lower fuel prices, as some of the reasons behind the party’s decision.

Speaking in an interview with the media, Hamududu said PNUP, as a partner in the UPND alliance, will instead focus on sharing parliamentary and ward seats with the ruling party while working to ensure that President Hichilema secures victory in the presidential election.

Hamududu also clarified that he has not formally withdrawn from the presidential race because the nomination process has not yet taken place.
