Fibrecom donates assorted Items to Namumu community clinic

Fibrecom a subsidiary of Zesco Limited has donated assorted items to Namumu Community Clinic in Siavonga District to help support the health facility in providing healthcare services to expectant mothers.

The donated items include linen for the beds, curtains to provide privacy for mothers and various cleaning supplies to ensure the highest standards of hygiene at the clinic.

Fibrecom made a donation as part of commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day in the spirit of the global theme, ‘give to gain’, to stand with the women and mothers of Namumu Community.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of donation, the Guest of Honour Siavonga District Commissioner (DC) Geoffrey Jakopo commended Fibrecom for the gesture that speaks volumes about the character of the company and its staff.

“Our colleagues from Fibrecom have shared with us their philosophy. They wanted to move beyond simply celebrating women with words, to actively supporting them with action and now have specifically chosen to focus on the maternal and child health ward here at Namumu. why? because they recognize that a new mother has so many needs and a safe environment is paramount as she welcomes her new baby into the world,” said Jakopo in a speech ready on his behalf by District Community Development Officer, Honest Muyasani.

He added that, “it is our hope that this donation will be just the beginning of many more similar gestures to uplift the lives of vulnerable communities”

Mr Jakopo urged the member of the community, especially the young girls, that women have the power to break barriers, adding that they should not let anything stop them from achieving their dreams.

Earlier, Fibrecom Corporate Affairs Senior Manager Muntanga Sibalwa said the company believed that a good health care system was the backbone of a productive economy and vibrant citizenry.

Sibalwa said the donation was aimed at supplementing government efforts in improving maternal and child health care services.

“We recently learned about the wonderful vision to expand the Maternal Health services here at Namumu Community Clinic. We understand that a new mother needs more than just a place to deliver from, but they need dignity, comfort, and a clean environment to heal.It is our hope that this small gesture can lighten your load and allow you to focus on the critical work which is saving lives,” she said.

And Namumu Orphanage Board Member Leonard Hachitapika praised Fibrecom for the donation saying that this spirit of partnership is so transformative.

“By providing the linen, curtains, and pillowcases for our new clinic wing, you are providing the final pieces required to make our Labour Room operational, you are ensuring that the mothers of this community receive care with the privacy and dignity they deserve. You are proving that when we ‘Give,’ the entire community ‘Gains.” said Hachitapika.
