A split is looming in the ruling Patriotic Front with the party expected to have two presidents by the end of the day.This is follows the declaration of Edgar Lungu yesterday as PF President, while another general conference is underway in Kabwe were another president is expected to be elected.

Meanwhile in Lusaka Edgar Lungu has fired Secretary General Bridget Atanga and his deputy Antony Kasolo. Mr.Lungu also announced that he has suspended PF chairperson for elections Sylvia Masebo for gross indiscipline and that he will be referring her case to the Central Committee for determination.He said the three party officials will find their letters ready the moment they return from Kabwe.Mr Lungu says he has surrendered enough to acting President Dr Scott and will surrender no more.He said his surrender of the instruments of power to Dr Scott and his earlier decision to relinquish his earlier position of Secretary General should not be perceived as weakness.

The conference presided by acting president Guy Scott is going on smoothly in Kabwe at the Mulungushi University and eight candidates are expected to compete, and is being aired live on ZNBC.Among the candidates in attendance include Kabwata MP Given Lubinda, Commerce Minister Bob Sichinga, Matero MP Miles Sampa,Nchanga MP Wilbur Simuusa, Kasama Central MP Geoffrey Mwamba, Roan MP Chishimba Kambwili and Diplomat Seleman Banda.Addressing the gathered delegates PF Chairperson for Election Sylvia Masebo said she was proud to be part of the process that allows eligible members of the general conference to campaign and vote for their preferred candidates without intimidation.

Update: LUSAKA High Court judge Mungeni Mulenga this morning granted PF national chairperson Inonge Wina an injunction restraining her party from nominating or announcing another person as presidential candidate apart from Edgar Lungu.

In a claim filed in the Lusaka High Court principal registry in the early hours of yesterday, Wina, who is also Nalolo member of parliament, sued Bridget Atanga in her capacity as PF national secretary.

Wina submitted that acting President Guy Scott had announced via a press release that the PF general conference was going to take place at Mulungushi Rock of Authority in Kabwe on November 29 and that over 3, 000 delegates were ferried to the place at great cost.

She stated that acting President Scott willfully refused to attend the general conference that he had convened.

“The decision by the acting President, national secretary and her deputy to shun the said conference was improper and unfair, considering that their supporters had been ferried on the instruction of the president,” Wina stated. “This was followed by the unilateral cancellation of the accreditation process by the acting President at designated and agreed centres.”

Wina submitted that in the absence of the party president, she was empowered to preside over all national rallies and public meetings.

    I am grief stricken

    Absolutely no chance in hell this impasse settles and simmers in time for next month’s General Elections. Even the judiciary somewhat cannot be trusted , injunction after injunction, Oh come on, legal system in Zambia
    is a joke anyway.

    I will be very surprised of the PF remain in power next month. They have made mockery of the Party, Government and the country.

    I am very disappointed. Words can’t explain how broken-hearted I am .I never envisaged this will unfold like this, maybe I am not so clever after all.

    • I’m not surprised with the behavior of PF.Doesn’t the bible say you shall know them by their fruits. This ladies and gentlemen is the fruit of PF in its full glory! Having said that it seems Sata(MHSRIP) was a strong and feared leader to have prevented these warring factions from strangling each other the last 3 years…On the other hand this confusion is his legacy

    • Could you give us 3 key reasons why you are not a fan of HH please. It seems Zambians have this nature of just disliking people based on mere assumptions of how they percieve them to be. You are not voting Hakainde in but rather the UPND and its policies. Next time say you are not a fan of UPND policy so and so. And this is the so called best blogger that LT has to offer.       Congratulations on being best blogger here. You have “stayed in a whiteman country too lang’a” as Mutabaruka said. The PF has been on self conflagration for too long and some of us are relishing the confusion and could not get tired of asking for more.
      I live in an area of Lusaka where PF cadres smashed windshields, head lamps and other breakable parts on people’s cars because these motorists were perceived to be UPND. In woodlands, people attending a UPND rally were flogged using iron chains by PF cadres and the police were watching while no PF person including late president Sata raised a whimper. Last year, a PF cadre plowed his car into a crowd at a court in Lusaka breaking people’s limbs, because they were perceived UPND. This is PF for you and please enjoy.

    • Edgar Lungu is the legitimate PF Presidential candidate and Guy Scott, whether being used by the Cartel or not, will simply not concede to that fact. At every turn he has tried to out manuvoure Lungu but the PF base remains behind Lungu.
      1. Lungu has endorsements from 27 of the 41 Memebers of the PF MCC behind him (assuming that all the initial nine hopefuls, except Kaseba, are are MCC members)
      2. Lungu has support from 70 MP’s
      3. The majority of PF grassroots believe that Sata wanted ONLY Lungu to handle the instruments of power so he is the “anoited one” for the PF.
      4. I havent read or seen any endorsements for the other nine candidates (except for Kambwili from his family in the UK-Online).
      So why are people ignoring this or is it a case of believing Scott because he is white?

      look at the difference btn EL and GS, people like GBM, Sampa,
      Lubinda, Kaseba etc
      are following GS not because they want but beacuse they have to. Assuming that all powers were taken away from GS, no one will follow, but its the opposit with EL, all that are following him, are following because they want, because they love it, in that way, EL is far much more than Galu Scot.

  2. I did not expect anything less than this stupidity to say the least. Edgar Lungu surely if you really have the support that you seem to claim, I doubt swallowing your pride and going for today’s conference would have created an issue. Which law school did edgar attend? If there are reports of vioilence and intimidation, it only follows that correct procedures and environment should be reinforced before holding of any election. If Lungu clearly sees nothing wrong with this, then how can we trust the PF government to preside over the 20th Januaray election in a fair and transparent manner? I am not siding with scott either. Scott should have been fore front and open about what was going on. You cannot keep people in the dark over such important issues. It leads to what we are seeing now.

    • I have two questions for Mr Guy Scott who is literally leading our country to the precipice;

      1. How will the budget be passed in Parliament if 70 MPS from the PF don’t agree with the behavior of the Acting President? Policy direction and financial stability depends on this budget.

      2. The Cabinet is now heavily divided with majority supporting Lungu. In case of a national emergency such as threat of war or an outbreak of Ebola, how does the Acting President draw consensus? He has differed with Minister of Defense and Justice. The man in charge of foreign affairs is not with him. Key ministerial appointees are not with him.

      Please remember 2001 when Chiluba attempted to do what Guy Scott and Slyvia masebo are doing. MMD never recovered from that hemorrhage. Don’t be…

      At the very least, we are all clear that Lungu has support from 70 MP’s, 27 members of the PF central committee and yet we have nothing for the other candidates. What then makes you doubt that Lungu has the support from the PF?
      The grassroots supporters of Lungu are now being lebelled “violent thugs” but why call them Lungu’s, when we all know that PF supporters are kaponya’s and have always been “violent thugs”?
      The truth is simply that the PF (The violent thugs) want Edgar Lungu to lead them, but those likely to lose out are detemined to deny the PF their wishes.

    • You seem not to know what you are talking about. The conference was there on Saturday and Sunday. Your Scott who called it and his preferred candidate refused to go there because they realised Edgar would win. After he went through unopposed, they arranged another meeting for the losers to pick another president. The problem is not Edgar, but Scott and his people that are filled with criminal minds.
      If you were here you would have noticed that the wind favours Lungu.
      If you have friends and relatives in different parts of Zambia, kindly call them and update yourself.

    • My friends, reports of and rumours of violence have been in every Zambian election so far. Does that necessitate cancellation of elections? Scott didn’t even get to the venue to verify those reports. I wonder what the Police who were manning the situation have to say. There were also ZNBC cameras there, why haven’t they shown the violence? Even in the UK European elections there were reports of intimidation and vote buying in places, particularly in Asian populated areas, were the elections cancelled due to that? Strong disagreements and emotions rise during elections, and some cowards out of their own fobia term that violence. Actually the mockery exhibited by the acting President of changing goal posts itself makes the process not free and fair, and disadvantages some candidates.

Also rushing to court in Lusaka to get injunction at the 11th hour can not stop a process thats already in motion and about to finish in Kabwe. Some Zambian Judges with their injunction rulings kaya. But anyway its a sad month for Zambian politics. Even in 1991 when multiparty politics was introduced there was not this type of desperation and nonsense.

  22. This is the true legacy of Sata. I think Sata wanted PF to die with him and he’s got his wish. If he never saw this coming after his death, then I doubt he was as intelligent as some people claim. The demise of the PF as a party was planted in their DNA by their founder. Kaseba just wants to be widowed twice. Sata is dead and it’s just a matter of time before we witness the death of PF.

    • Someone tell me how EL is concluded was Sata’s choice? He could have been lumped with three portfolios and acted president more times than the others but just for benefit of doubt do we sure know what would have been happening behind the curtain? What if other cabinet members were refusing the acting appointment for reasons best known to themselves and which we were not privileged to know? Does it mean he who was ready to grab the opportunity to act became the ‘anointed’ one? It most likely could have been that others simply refused to act or the appointing authority regarded them to be a threat possessing independent fearless decisive mind! The weak indecisive unthreatening choice could as well have been EL.

I used to think that Inonge Wina is a level headed woman little did i know that she can easily be bought with little promises,she had sink so low such that she cant differentiate between elected and non elected members of the pf,How can she allow herself to be cheapen in such a manner that she cant see that she is using the wrong fora? As for HH……….i have no problem with him as a presido, rather i have noticed some problems with UPND! This party has also allowed some well known hijackers to be on board and they are making headlines leaving the long serving members only but to be Mute,i see danger in the manner he is welcoming some people on board those that contributed to the down fall of MMD.Am not talking on behalf of masses rather i have just observed this.

  42. The nation spent the morning watching the remaining 8 in Kabwe on TV.

    Campaign 01 has moved East. Will be interesting to see how people on the ground have viewed Campaign 03 (Banda) who is set to fight Campaign 04 (Mumba) in court. They also have the ‘dis’pleasure of viewing Campaign 06 (ED) while awaiting to hear if there will be a Campaign 07 (One of the 7 Kabwe contenders).

    In the meantime NAREP – Campaign 05 is still being drowned out by the noise but has been talking about Zambians being freed from slavery and gaining a young leader.

    The lone General with his Campaign 02 is still on a silent trail.

    The day is almost over but plenty of news to come. Many on the ground not happy with watching their politicians behave like…well… politicians really.

  46. I am not sure the majority of Zambian people, especially, PF supporters know what is going on in PF- what has created factions. All I can say is that it is totally unfair that innocent people can be subjected to this kind of situation. A lot of people have a lot of faith in the development policies of PF, and positive results are there to see. Now the opportunity is being given to vultures to rule the country on the silver platter. This will be like a curse – we are in for big trouble and misery, the country will be divided. I can see the desperation by some political parties to capitalise on the mess in PF to enter state house-this is really a shame. What ever the problems have been in PF the main cause is like of leadership. Guy Scoot, the buck stops with you.

  47. ARE PEOPLE IN ZAMBIA STUPID?

    The Law is above everyone including the President of Zambia and all gov’t machinery.

    That means the injunction given this morning to honourable Wina makes the ongoing selection in Kabwe illegal. Scott and his gang would have needed to go to the High Court to stop the injunction before electing a new leader.

    Guy Scott is a complete idiot and a dangerous man playing with the Gov’t of Zambia. He must be arrested together with Mwenye to face Treason charges.

    He and his group have no respect for the law. And those on this blog who are thinking they can support this, must STOP. Guy Scott is putting his finger up the Judiciary. The reporting is rather skewed.

    It should be reported that both the MMD and PF MUST ACCEPT THE RULE OF LAW.

      The Acting President of Zambia is in Contempt of the highest Authority. What does it say about Zambians as a people? Do you not have an understanding even of basic law.

  48. The post has destroyed PF. They were praising late Micahel Sata all the way instead of encouraging him to instil democratic procedures in the party. All these problems PF is seeing now could have been addressed by Sata since he had some power. If you build something, once you it also dies, that is not the way to go. GBM and Kambwili are also to blame. GBM, Kambwili, Lungu, Lubinda were in one camp while fighting Kabimba. After Sata death, this group should have remained one and field one candidate and thus a compromise could have been reached. Now each one wants the president and how then can you reach a compromise. When Guy Scott and the cartel has their way, GBM and Kambwili will cry foul. Have been used to abandon their camp for greedy reasons.

      We need the Judiciary to arrest MMD officials and PF’s Scott, Masebo, Kambwili and Kasolo to be brought before the law. Their conduct is in Contempt of the Law’s effort
      to bring order.

      If a Court Injuncts it means; it cannot be done, must stop, is illegal. Scott as Acting President has sullied our Office Of The President and discredited our sacred Rule of Law, by failing to stop the injunction to proceed. He has insulted Senior Gov’t officials repeatedly. Mocking and downright Racist conduct, changing the venue from Mulungushi Rock to ‘King George’ lodge, what is that about? Subtle.

As for Kambwili, I didn’t know until now that the chap is useless. He does not inspire me at all! To say the least every one in the PF is jitterly and hit by double standards. You can’t just figure out how PF is structured. The question is who has powers – the acting president of the party or NEC or NCC whatever you call it? Fact is Balisangana kwati ifitumbuwa! Imagine a firm without executives or board where CEO just makes unilateral decisions. Chumbu munshololwa! GUY can not be SATA by far because he(GUY) lacks intra-party Leadership.

  51. Guy Scott is the most USELESS leader I have seen. The fact that he does not want Lungu has been apparent from day one. When everyone was mouning MC, Guy Scot was busy writing dismissal letter for Lungu. Everyone rejected this stupid idea and Scot gave in. When PF NEC convened and decided to adpot Lungu as PF candicate, Scott, said is undemocratic. When PF convened an elective conference Scott addressed the delegete but declined to be part of the voting process. I’m not PF and not Lungu supporter, but pena apa i’m supporting him. Lungu, you have my electronic VOTE.

Are we missing something in the reporting, because I think the 10 province representatives should return the same result even if Edgar is not there.

  53. Chaos brought on by Sata from the grave. The nation needs to move in a totally different direction from a disgraced lawyer and one who is known to give out handouts at elections. PF needs to be burried eternally in next election because of the violence and incompetence and infighting. HH will not solve all of our problems but he is needed for discipline and re-organization of our country. As a Banda and Chewa am giving my support to a fellow Zambian who just happens to be Tonga.

  56. As expected, only dull people did not see this coming. Power Failure (PF) has always been in a denial; even when they were given timely advise to put their house in order. They didn’t heed the advise from well-meaning ZWD that their president was sick, they went to declare he was fit and working, in fact, they said he went to woo investors, alas, he came back as “Cargo without value”. That is what happens when leaders can not be trusted, when they are dishonest to the people who gave them power.
