Ex-Zambia Under-17 coach Chris Kaunda has told his junior proteges Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to honour their friend and late midfielder Changwe Kalale.
The ex-Zambia Under-17 star , who was left paralyzed after road accident in December2014, died on Sunday following a short illness in Lusaka where he had gone for his routine check-up.
Kalale inspired Zambia to its debut U17 AFCON appearance but missed the trip following the tragic accident that left him confined to a wheel chair.
The late Kalale sustained a spinal injury on his way for Chipolopolo’s pre-tournament camp in Lusaka for the 2015 AFCON.
“To the rest, Patson, Mwepu, Prosper (Chiluya), Wayne Museba, our dream was Qatar, please please, you can still honour your colleague, your brother by fulfilling our final agreement, “Kaunda said.
Patson and Mwepu are now fully fledged Chipolopolo members following their 2017 U20 AFCON win as hosts in March and 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup quarterfinal placing last June in South Korea.

Brazilian Secretary for International Affairs, who is also the Vice Minister of Finance, Dr. MARCELLO ESTEVAO, and Zambia’s Minister of Finance, FELIX MUTATI shakes hands after the signing ceremony
Twelve [12] years AFTER the 2005 Paris Club Agreement and Six [6] years after bilateral minutes agreement, Brazil and Zambia have finally signed a US$ 90.7 million or 80% debt write-off.
Before the debt write-off was executed, Zambia owed the South American economic giant a consolidated amount of US$ 113. 4 million of which 80% has NOW been written off , and US$ 22.7 million or 20% rescheduled for repayment in two equal instalments to be paid by March, 2018.
According to the statement released to the media and signed by Chileshe Kandeta, the debt write-off and rescheduling agreement was signed in Brasilia between the Brazilian Secretary for International Affairs, who is also the Vice Minister of Finance, Dr. MARCELLO ESTEVAO, and Zambia’s Minister of Finance, FELIX MUTATI.
Speaking after the signing ceremony held at the Brazilian Ministry of Finance Headquarters, Mr. Mutati said the savings from what would have been full debt repayment will be channeled to support the implementation of poverty reduction programmes outlined in the Seventh National Development Plan [7NDP].
“We are very grateful to Brazil for concluding a process that started way back in 2005,” he stated, adding that, “this agreement will reinforce the relationship between Brazil and Zambia.”
He affirmed that the agreement signified the commencement of a revolution which will lead to thriving development cooperation between the two countries.
“I take this opportunity to reiterate our commitment to execution of the Economic Stabilisation and Growth Programme through which the Zambian Government, under the stewardship of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, has implemented measures to stimulate enhanced economic growth; sustain the fiscal consolidation process; and, promote financial discipline across all domains of the public service,” stated Mr. Mutati.
Minister Mutati restated Zambia’s keenness in tapping into the world-class competencies of Brazil in agriculture development through private sector driven mechanization and technological transfer initiatives.
AND Dr. Estevao says the parties’ debt write-off and debt rescheduling agreement is a great start to a new phase of development cooperation between Brazil and Zambia.
Dr. Estevao stated that after suffering stagnation, his country was now undertaking structural reforms which have redirected the Brazilian economy to a recovery path with growth projected at 3%, adding that, “this is a good time to sign the agreement and heighten the relationship between the two countries.”
Brazil is at the frontier of technological advancement in the agriculture chain, therefore, “it makes a lot of sence to collaborate in order to boost Zambia’s diversification process,” Dr. Estevao assured Mr. Mutati.
MEANWHILE, the Brazilian Secretary for International Affairs has said his country backs Zambia in her quest to get on an IMF Programme because of the importance that investors, and both bilateral and multilateral cooperating partners attach to endorsements by the IMF through a programme.
Dr. Estevao, a former IMF official who until 2016 served as an economist, researcher, and IMF Mission Chief for various countries for a period spanning over twenty [20] years, told Mr. Mutati and his delegation that “Brazil will support Zambia when the presentation is made at the IMF.”

An orphaned baby elephant has won the hearts of people throughout the world after a 577 km mercy flight across the country to rescue the stranded creature and bring her to safety.
The tiny two-month-old elephant was rescued in the South Luangwa National Park, after she was found by local residents in the bush: alone, starving and terrified.
A team from Proflight Zambia then flew into action and dispatched a 12-seater C208 Caravan aircraft to collect the elephant – named Matizye after a nearby river – and fly her to the safety of the Lilayi Elephant Nursery operated by Game Rangers International in Lusaka.
“Who said elephants can’t fly!” said Captain Emmanuel Nyirenda, who flew the 90-kg elephant to her new home along with colleague Captain David Ndumba.
“We carry thousands of passengers across the country every year to see Zambia’s fantastic wildlife and national parks, so it is only fitting that we put something back by helping little Matizye and ensuring that our natural wonders are cared for,” he added.
Matizye was originally rescued by officers from the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) with support from the Conservation South Luangwa charity.
With quick action and veterinary support the calf was taken to the nearby Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust where she was cared for by Game Rangers International’s consultant vet nurse Liz O’Brien who Proflight rapidly flew to the scene. Upon arrival she found the fragile female orphan in desperate need of help. The calf was dehydrated, stressed and showing the initial signs of shock. With some intensive care by Ms O’Brien, Chipembele’s Anna Tolan and her team, the calf was in the best possible hands, to give her a chance for survival.
The medical aspects of the rescue mission were overseen by DNPW senior veterinary officer Dr Innocent N’gombwa, who assessed Matizye and ensured she was given painkillers and a mild sedative to help manage the trip.
“She was found a week ago lying in a puddle of mud. I was called in by Game Rangers International to see if we could save her life. She was extremely thin; she was very dehydrated; she was extremely stressed. She had lost her mother and she was even having nightmares,” said Ms O’Brien.
While the fate of Matizye’s mother is not known, she specualted that she may have fallen victim to poachers, who are know to operate in the area.

rescue and community outreach and education.
This is not the first time that Proflight has helped rescue a wild animal. In 2013 Proflight flew Douglas, a 120kg orphaned hippo calf to its new home and have repeatedly flown other orphaned elephants in the past to Game Rangers International who now care for 18 elephants.
Christina Sakala is a 24-year-old fashion model and law student. “I started modeling when my boyfriend at the time tricked me into auditioning. He said we were going on a date and I found myself at an audition. He had been trying to get me to start and I was just not interested LOL. So I guess that was he’s last resort. Now looking back I’m glad he did it. There are so many people looking up to me, including myself and I cannot disappoint them. I know I’m a great model and one day I’ll put my country on the map.”
She has been a freelance model for almost her own career. “If you are a hustler work freelance but if you’re not get with an agency. As a freelancer you have to be a hard worker, go out there and get jobs but with an agency the agent does that for you.”
In her career as a model Christina as attained a number of titles such as:
Top Model of the world Zambia 2015
Miss Globe Zambia 2017/18
Vodafone Jump Brand Ambassador
Mumba Children’s Project Brand Ambassador
Face of Lace by Mwengz
She has walked the runway of Zambia Fashion week from 2015 to date and also participated in Swahili Fashion week. Asked about her best model experience she mentioned that it is undoubtedly her participation at this years Shanghai Black fashion week (held in Shanghai, China).
“It was an amazing experience. I loved every moment of it. It was very humbling because that was GOD. I didn’t reach out to them they reached out to me! God works in mysterious ways. It was a different crowd, different vibe, I met new people and made new connections. It gave me a taste of the international modeling scene and now I’m going for the whole cake!! I’m excited for what God has in store for me come 2018.”she exclaimed excitedly.
Apart from runway modeling, Christina has also done other model works such as:
TV commercials (Vodafone, eezee noodles, Thai green tea)
Billboards (Airtel, Giordano, SBM)
Editorial (Nkwazi inflight magazine, Kamanga wear look book, Bulletin and Record Magazine, Essays (SA) magazine)
Asked if she has preference between photo shoots and runway modeling, her response was that she loves both. “When I’m behind the camera I can be whoever the client wants me to be. I get to role-play and that’s always fun. When I’m on the runway I’m the best version of me. There’s something about that thrill. It’s amazing.”
The Zambian modeling industry is growing steadily but still faces a number of challenges. In Christina’s view the main challenges are; lack of opportunities and some peoples lackadaisical attitude towards modeling.“A lot of people don’t take models seriously and so before you establish yourself it can be tricky. This ties in with pay. Money. People want you for a job but aren’t willing to pay properly and when you can’t agree on a figure they would rather go and use their relatives or friends for the said job.”
She went on to say business need to understand that modeling is a job like any other and that the models are helping to bring the business’s brand and vision to life thus, they must be paid well for that.
In Zambia, non-traditional jobs such as acting and modeling are at times, not taken seriously. Whereas in the western world people are able to make a comfortable living with them. Christina attributes this to mindset. “Traditional type of mindset where in order to make it you have to be a lawyer, doctor, accountant, engineer etc. but I believe God gave us talents for a reason. If you can make your passion your paycheck then good for you. People need to get out of that traditional way of thinking.”
Christina has achieved a lot in her career but still has ambitions to accomplish even more.
“I’m going to be the cover of Vogue Magazine, Elle Magazine and all the big names. I’m going to walk for the biggest designers in the world and walk the biggest most glamorous shows in the world. Be the brand ambassadors for the biggest brands and names. I’m coming for it all.” She said with determination.
When she is not working Christina loved to spend her time reading. She says reading opens your mind and enables you to explore new places without leaving the comfort of your bed.
Christina gave a word of advice to upcoming models, “Stay focused. Stay true to yourself. There’s always the right way to do things and even if it takes longer always go that route. BE KIND ALWAYS.”

South Africa coach Thabo Senong branded the tournament as great and also saluted his boys for emerging winners.
“It’s been a great tournament. For us Zambia is our second home as South Africans,” Senong said.
“I am very proud of our boys. We knew when to defend, attach or delay,” he said.

I have seen a post by Larry L Mweetwa and let me say that I have been principled enough to have never said anything bad about UPND- and I don’t intend to.
UPND has/had been the only party I had ever known and loved and even when I started to have more enemies inside than outside I still held on.
People will love you until they begin to see you as a competitor then you begin to have enemies that you don’t even know about… Let me mention to Larry that I have resisted to say anything bad about UPND because all parties have problems and better to sort out things internally than air out dirty laundry in public. So people like Larry should not force me to speak all the things that I feel are wrong in UPND because I can.
All I can advise my dear comrade is that he is Tonga and UPND is his ‘birthright’ so let him stick there because he has the right surname to excel in UPND. For some of us that have to be checked by the name you carry instead of skill, ability and even qualification, have a choice to leave and be wherever we want.
When you are a mere member you are ok and loved because you are a voter and adding to the votes, but aspire for anything then you will understand that you are not ‘equal citizens’ in the party and others will always have a tribal advantage due to the way the party is structured. So you have to accept being in UPND as merely a person escorting others to fulfil their God knows what plan, while yours should never even be talked about.
Until UPND goes for a Convention and cleans out a few people that feel that the party is theirs by virtue of their tribe it will continue to lose people that are genuinely talented and want the best for the party and this is a General post and dare me to publish all names of most party structures even in Lusaka or Kafue and you will see what I mean.
No chance for reason when you prioritise tribal affiliation to quality. Even Larry yourself, I have never ever argued with you BUT how you shifted when tribe was at play only God knows. People that accuse UPND of being tribal actually have no idea just how bad that is and for some of us that have been UPND almost all our lives and hoping that things will change one day and don’t ever change can actually shade good light on that which can even make the party be seen for what it really is.
So please leave me alone my brother, you have your life and I have mine to live. I am a free and focused person and I will not let small boys get me in a war that will get many injured because I can get there if you want me to.
Some of us even went to school to do Political Science so that we learn how to govern our parties and countries properly. I never went to school with a vision of ending up as a carder in some party that will appreciate you only if ‘the clique’ decide that you are worth appreciating… We have different paths and reasons for following them, so let’s stick to that.
Maybe one day I will come back to UPND if I change my name to Saboi Himboela.
The Author is a former UPND aspiring candidate for Kafue. Over the weekend defected from the opposition UPND to join newly formed National Democratic Congress(NDC).

We, as the Green Party are happy that finally, the World Health Organization (WHO) experts have confirmed medical value of cannabis. We are also elated that scientific evidence gathered by WHO confirms that the substance could not be abused or create dependence as for other cannabinoids. We are also impressed that WHO is in the process of re-scheduling cannabis by next year.
Last week on 13 December, 2017, the WHO published a Report by the Expert Committee on Drug Dependence (ECDD) which confirms that over the years, the Committee has gathered more robust scientific evidence on therapeutic use and side effects of cannabis and cannabis components.
According to ECDD Report, evidence from animal and human studies shows that its use could have some therapeutic value for seizures due to epilepsy and related conditions. Current evidence also shows that cannabidiol is not likely to be abused or create dependence as for other cannabinoids (such as Tetra Hydro Cannabinol (THC), for instance).
The ECDD concluded that current information does not justify scheduling of cannabidiol and postponed a fuller review of cannabidiol preparations to May 2018, when the committee will undertake a comprehensive review of cannabis and cannabis related substances.
We as the Green Party, who have been campaigning on the platform of cannabis for medicinal and industrial purposes are happy that total victory is around the corner. There is light at the end of the tunnel, come May 2018, when a more compelling decision will be made.
Nonetheless, from the current evidence availed, we are delighted for the confirmation that cannabidiol is not likely to be abused or create dependence as for other cannabinoids.
And the Colorado Department of Revenue last week released the state’s latest cannabis sales data from January 2014 to the present and, will from point forward release monthly reports on the seventh business day of each month.
The Revenue Department’s Office of Research and Analysis will produce the reports which will show gross sales minus wholesale sales for retail and medical cannabis shops county-by-county.
“We know this information is highly desired by the general public, media and researchers. To that end, in our efforts to be as transparent as possible, we will now provide aggregate sales data. That, coupled with state tax revenue data already provided, will give an accurate picture of the financial footprint of this burgeoning industry.” – Mike Hartman, executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue, in a press release.
According to the data already released by the department, Colorado sales have reached more than $1.2 billion so far from January to October and will likely exceed 2016’s total sales of more than $1.3 billion by year’s end. The report shows that since legalization in 2014, cannabis sales have exceeded $4.2 billion.
The state’s monthly sales data shows that retail sales in the state peaked last July – to about $140 million – but fell slightly in September to about $130 million.
