Gospel singer T.Mathews

T. Mathews (Tembo Mathews) is a Zambian Contemporary gospel Solo Singer. Born and raised in the eastern part of Zambia particularly lundazi and Petauke.

I did my primary and secondary education from there and moved to Lusaka where I obtained graduate Diploma in Marketing from Evelyn Hone College, I also posses qualifications in operations and change management.  I was raised in a very dedicated catholic home at a tender age my parents Mr. Alfred tembo and late mom Grace Tembo trained me in a religious and God fearing way.  I initially started singing in a youth choir at Njanji SDA in 2001 though was very shy to stand before audiences. My main voice was first tenor.

Starting to Sing on A serious note

Around 2003 I abandoned singing in a choir and opted to be very dedicated in pulpit and outdoor preaching of the word of God at church. It is this gift of preaching that led me come more close to the word of God, searching scriptures, creating sermons and bible lesson. None the less I used to fill so moved to a point of shading tears when a choir sings very well, in short something in me had a strong connection with music. I used to listen a lot to gospel songs and lucky dube tracks before I knew it I composed my first song in 2005 Munitenge which was produced by blazer studios in 2007 and played a lot on TV as a video. I decided to release my first album called –Thought of destiny in 2009 under super shine investments label. The album did fairly well as to build the name T.Mathews on the scene. It had notable high air waves videos like amen amen, munitenge and Mpeni amino.

The grace of God continued with me such that I met and shared experiences with big names in the industry then. This made me write more songs and set up my own studio called a TM studio which has successfully produced the latest album Panono Panono. On this album I have worked mainly with B Shop of cabin studios as my producer, Allan prince from Touch base adding his talents as well. I do not feature any notable names on some colabos instead I have new voices from Allan prince and Dexter who are very skilled musically.

New Album-Panono Panono

Panono Panono Album is a new sound, message and prayer in song in the industry that anyone can easily offer for themselves in their day to day life. The album has 12 Tracks with a number of genres to meet different people expectations though very strict on the character of gospel music. It has songs in the public domain now like, Panono Panono, Ingileni (new video released), lesa wachishinka, Mpeni amano remix. The album also has a social commentary song AKASEMBE which carries a message of you reap what you saw. The album has been released under super shine label again and can be found in all leading stores country wide. My music is inspired by a lot of things including though not limited to people’s lives, environment, the bible etc. I write my own songs though iam very open to ideas from colleagues in the industry.

New Video-Ingileni

I have a new video for the song INGILENI released about 14 days ago. The video has received lot of airplay and requests from people. The video and song talks about bad situations which are persistent in one’s life and then she calls on God in prayer to come into her life and intervene. It’s a song that takes one to review their life and realize how much they need God in this life. The video was produced from Lusaka by green apple media directed by akate and lemekani, while the script was authored and arranged by T.Mathews

Other Activities

Away from music which I do mainly in my free time, I work for MTN Zambia Limited as an Area Consumer Sales manager I have been around here for 3 years. In my further free time I enjoy spending time with family, construction and meeting with progressive friends.

Final Message

God gave us one thing that no one can take away from us that is TALENT. Use it, get a living from it, and bless people with it.  Enjoy the music in Panono Panono album also the new video INGILENI. Be responsible and ware that you are accountable of all your today’s actions tomorrow don’t do something that will destroy your tomorrow may the grace of our lord Jesus Christ and his hand of blessings be upon you!

Lastly many thanks to the Zambian people, media houses for kind support given to my last album more importantly on the new album Panono Panono. Thank you.

Kambwili disappointed with firing of Power Dynamos coach

MINISTER of Sport, Youth and Child Development Chishimba Kambwili

The firing of veteran coach Fordson Kabole by Power Dynamos FC Management has attracted the attention of Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili.

Last evening,Power announced that the club has parted company with Kabole my mutual consent.

Commenting on the development, Kambwili said he was disapointed with the sacking of Kabole which came two days after Power were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by DR Congo’s TP Mazembe via a 7-1 aggregate scoreline.

“I am disapointed with the indiscriminate firing of coach Kabole by Power Dynamos. It is unfair,” he said. Kambwili said Kabole’s dismissal is suggesting that Power are blaming the trainer over their champions league exit.

“Every one at Power must share the blame, the players and the executive instead of singling the coach(Kabole),” stated the ex-Roan United Secretary.

Kambwili added:” Kabole has done a lot for Zambian football.”

And efforts to contact Kabole over his exit have been unsuccessful because his mobile phone is off.

Bittersweet Poetry : Poems of the week by Simon Mwila ,Isunge Mwanagase and Luka Mwango

As we continue to promote Poetry in Zambia ; here are this weeks poems ,enjoy.

POETRY by Isunge Mwangase

Brewing a good poem takes time,

Doesn’t matured whiskey taste better

On the rocks or with cordial lime?

Even a love matured is sweeter

Poetry is not about using fancy words,

Though one might employ one or two

For it leads to many roads:

Emotions, memories- experiences too

Most mistake poetry for the canvas

But is not, It is the journey,

The clay being mould into a vase,

The process of making the honey

It isn’t alone the protagonist,

It’s every one behind the scenes,

The chemical reaction not the catalyst

Nor the song but why one sings

Poetry is untying a gordian knot simply,

Its teaching angels how to fly,

Nothing like a show of Mr. Ripley,

Its the tears of joy God would cry.

AGAIN by Simon Mwila

If in an instant your life flashed before your eyes..

would u gasp for breath to live again?

If your loved one grew distant, your relationship stood in quicksand..

Would u put your heart out there to love again?

If you looked in the mirror, felt disgusted by your body..

Would you build walls to shut out everybody?

Walls that hide, walls that bind..

Walls will imprison your soul, your mind..

Do you stand up for friends? Do you have backbone,

or do you hold needless grudges, resentful & bitter taking their pain as your own?

When you feel neglected or worse still rejected..

Do you seek solace, do you hide your face or worse still do you hold on to pain and look for someone to blame?

Life is unpredictable and the love of men more so..

But i have found one to whom i entrust my soul..

My Spirit is not broken, even though my heart may be..

The world may have changed me but not who i want to be..

If i’m the Architect of my own destiny & my concept is De Javu..

Then its pointless to go through the same pain without moving on only to say “hey i know you..”

Almost all things are loss, there’s not much to gain..

If life seems worthless why do anything Again?

Hope, A Second chance, he that lost has gained..

Forget the heartbreaks, forget the shame..

Forget the panic, forget the pain..

If i had another life, I would be me AGAIN.

The Paradox (A love child of poetry and prose) by Luka Mwango

It’s past three in the morning and a battle wages on. The sleep pulls me on one side and the pen on the other, like a soul in purgatory I stand in the middle. Slumber says I’ve neglected her, while the pen craves the creative apologetic swimming in my head. Sleep flirts with me using self-gratification, while the pen shouts vocation:

“Luka, they need you—the dejected, the lost, the abused, the hurting. They need you to tell their story.”

So I become a student of emotions, using the prudence of Godly wisdom and the foresight bestowed on me to formulate 3-dimessional constructs. I am betrothed to hurt, our courtship a study in patience. I am married to disappointment, our vows the premise of poems and stories that my fingers pen.

Faces speak to me when mouths stop—eyes bark, eyebrows scream, ears whisper, noses complain and facial muscles do it all and more.

“Inspector Mwango,” they call me, “please solve this mystery.” The tears are but only a clue and the heart the victim…stabbed with the blade of betrayal.

To hell with Alice and her wonderland, on this blissful earth that many claim is marred with boredom, I find an ironic utopia—flawed yet still delightful.

See not the engulfing darkness but the small lamp that fights with such gallantry, for such is the Human Condition!!

Sebastian Zulu absent at State House event, Sata refuses to receive NAPSA inquiry report

153
President Michael Sata

President Michael Sata this morning refused to receive the report of the Commission of Inquiry constituted to investigate the purchase of a farm in Lusaka and the financing of the Zambia National Building Society Central Arcades project by the National Pensions Scheme Authority (NAPSA).

This was after the commission chairperson Sebastian Zulu who is also Justice Minister failed to show up and instead delegated his vice Ngosa Simbyakula to present the report.

President Sata during the less than five minute event noted that he had appointed Mr.Zulu as the chairperson of the commission of inquiry and therefore would not receive the report from any other person.

President Sata who quickly stopped the permanent secretary for administration at Cabinet office Anne Sinyangwe from introducing the commission members said he was disappointed that the commission chairperson failed to show up.

He said a lot of dust had been swept under the carpet on the NAPSA investigations by the commission.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary for administration at Cabinet office Anne Sinyangwe this morning shocked journalists when she informed them that her office will begin to regulate the attendance of the media at State house functions.

In an apparent vent of anger at the innocent journalists after President Sata lashed out at her office for failing to bring the chairperson of the NAPSA commission of inquiry to present the report, Mrs. Sinyangwe claimed that the room that was being used to host functions has become too small to accommodate all the journalists that attend statehouse assignments.

However, the room has from time immemorial been used for state house functions and has always accommodated journalists who are accredited by the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS).

Mrs. Sinyangwe is of the view that ZANIS will be used to cover state house who will in turn distribute stories to all the media houses.

The Journalists especially from the private media complained at this turn of events noting that most of these government officials were not there when the media covered President Sata during the time he was in opposition for them to stop them from covering state house functions.

A Zambian mother’s story of how Mutima Project saved her life

12
Jane taking a walk on the ward a few days after the surgery performed by the Mutima Project cardiothoracic surgeons

Jane Mulambia, a 32yr old mother and wife was diagnosed with a large left atrial myxoma, a benign tumour of the heart chamber. If left untreated, it would have either obstructed the chamber or led to the formation of clots that in turn could cause strokes, pulmonary embolisms, DVTs or even blindness.

Prior to being diagnosed, Jane noticed that despite being pregnant, she was getting increasingly short of breath and was generally weak beyond what she would expect in pregancy. It was only during routine tests that doctors at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) realised that there was something wrong with her heart. Further tests revealed that she had this growth in her heart and although much to her relief, she had an uneventful pregnancy and delivery, she knew that her future was uncertain.

Like many other heart patients in Zambia who require surgery, Jane knew that her only hope at the time was for Ministry of Health or well-wishers to sponsor her to have the procedure abroad. And she knew that the chances of that happening were quite slim.

In the cardiac ward at UTH where she would be admitted for a few days every so often, some of the patients who had been there for months and of whom Jane had become acquinted with, would share tales of their journeys so far, a lot of them showing signs of despair and fading hope. For some of these patients, they had been there for months, nothing had happened and they were becoming increasing unwell. A few had already resigned to their fate.

Despite this Jane was optimistic about her chances and prayed about this.

On the 24th March 2011, under the Mutima Project, she underwent a three hour procedure to remove the tumour. She made a very good postoperative recovery, spending only one night in the intesnive care unit and was pacing up and around the ward two days later.

On a live national television show a few days later, Jane shared with the audience on how lucky and blessed she felt, to have had her operation free of charge, within the city she lives in and just in a time.

Jane still thinks of all her other friends on the cardiac ward at UTH who weren’t as fortunate and wonders what their fates will be.

There are over 300 adults patients on the waiting list and an undisclosed number of paediatric patients. Until recently, only 50 such Zambian patients have had their operation. And of these, most have either been sponsored by charities and/or other well wishers and some by the government when it could afford it. They are usually sent abroad but a few were operated on at UTH by visiting cardiac surgeons under difficult operating conditions.

The Mutima project is a project by volunteers which aims to perform 100 life-saving heart operations on young underprivileged Zambian patients at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka to be carried out over the next five years.

On the 21st March 2011, a team of over 30 medical personnel from New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa, led by Harsh Singh a Cardiothoracic Surgeon, performed the first of seven successful cardiac operations in Lusaka. This was the first of five missions to be conducted annually.

Unfortunately, the next mission to Zambia has had to be pushed back by a few months. Orginally it was scheduled to take place at the end of this month(April 2012).

The team is now expected to travel to Zambia sometime in August.

This project requires huge resources and funds and every little help they get will go a long way to making this litterally a life saving and life changing experience for a lot of cardiac patients in Zambia.

State enters nolle in Czech espionage case

The Lusaka High Court has discontinued the matter in which three Czech Republic nationals were arrested for espionage in October last year.

Michael Vebr, 45 a welder, Jiri Cetel, 45 a technician and Jan Coufal, 36 a carpenter are charged with espionage contrary to Section 3 (b) of the State Security Act Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia.

High Court judge Annie Sitali discontinued the matter yesterday after State advocate Chipola Bako entered a nolle prosequi when the matter came up for return of bench of warrant against the three Czech Republic nationals.

“After the State entered a nolle prosequi in this matter, these proceedings are accordingly discontinued,” Mrs Justice Sitali said.

In an application to discontinue the matter, Mr Bako said he had received instructions to drop the case.

“My instructions in the proceedings against the three accused persons are to discontinue the matter by way of a nolle prosequi,” he said.

Particulars of the offence are that the three, jointly and whilst acting together made sketches of the Zambia Army Arakan Barracks and Zambia Air Force headquarters City Airport Air Base entrances and the Zambia Army Battle Training Area at Mikango Barracks, which are protected areas, things which might be intended to be directly or indirectly useful to a foreign power or disaffected person.

The offence is alleged to have been committed between October 6 and October 12 in Lusaka last year.

DEC makes largest drug bust Zambia has ever seen

DRUG Enforcement Commission (DEC) public relations officer Samuel Silomba looks at the exhibit of the largest single seizure of cocaine weighing 13.2 kilogrammes. Among other items seized were DVD players and baby powder containers where the drugs were concealed

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on Monday nabbed two Bolivian nationals and found on and ‘in’ them a combined 13.2 kilogrammes of crack cocaine.

The drug bust was the largest the country has seen.

DEC public relations officer Samuel Silomba confirmed the seizure of drugs and arrest of the South Americans in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Silomba said the seizure is the largest ever in the history of the DEC.
He named the Bolivians as Jorge Padilla, a 31-year-old man, and Jackeline Pedraza, a 21-year-old woman. The two suspects had swallowed a large quantity of cocaine pellets which the DEC displayed.

Mr Silomba said Padilla had swallowed 89 pellets while Pedraza had swallowed 99 pellets while the other contraband was concealed in nine different DVD players, four baby powder containers and two cocoa tins.[pullquote]we are no longer a transit point but a consuming nation[/pullquote]

The Bolivians arrived from Dubai via Emirates Airlines after connecting through Brazil from their country. At the airport, DEC officers summoned the duo without attracting the attention of travellers.

The Bolivians cooperated with the officers and were led to the DEC offices where, after being questioned, they excreted the pellets. They were later driven to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in the heart of the capital to be examined to ensure nothing remained in the bowels.

“There was no drama at all because our officers did a professional job at KK airport and no one tipped us. We had our own information,” Mr Silomba said.

The Bolivian suspects are in police custody and will appear in court soon.

“We are getting worried as DEC because these drugs were destined for Lusaka, meaning we are no longer a transit point but a consuming nation,” Mr Silomba said.

“We want to warn foreigners as well as Zambians that the DEC will get you if you deal in drugs,” he stressed.

Mr Silomba said DEC officers on the ground have intensified intelligence gathering and will soon get to consumers of the prohibited drugs.

He warned that DEC will not sit back and allow Zambia to become a haven for drugs.

Man arrested for having sex with 16yr old daughter and infecting her with HIV

11

POLICE in Chipata have arrested a 46-year-old man for having sex with his 16-year-old daughter.

The man of Mchini Township forced himself on his biological daughter on a number of occasions after his wife went to harvest crops in a small-holding farm where she spent some days.

Police spokesperson Elizabeth Kanjela said yesterday that the man’s wife left home for the field last month and only returned last week.

The girl narrated to her mother about the incident and that she had not been feeling well after the encounters.

Ms Kanjela said the girl’s mother then reported the case to the police and was issued a medical report.

The girl was examined at Chipata General Hospital where it was discovered that she was HIV positive.

Police arrested the man and charged him with incest and will appear in court soon.

In Solwezi, police have discovered a body of a man with private parts missing in what is suspected to be a ritual murder.

The body was found floating on Jiwundu River in Senior Chief Musele’s area.

Police suspect a case of ritual murder because the victim had gone fishing in the company of three other people and suddenly went missing. He was found dead without clothes and private parts.

North-Western Province police commissioner Eugene Sibote said on March 30 the victim, Golden Kapanda 39 of Lukanga Village in Kambishi area had gone fishing in the company of Stanely Semeki, Moses Semeki and Muzhinga Demala after which he was reported missing.

Some statements President Sata makes undermine confidence in the presidency-Father Bwalya

101
Get Involved Zambia Executive Director Father Frank Bwalya
Get Involved Zambia Executive Director Father Frank Bwalya

Get Involved Zambia Executive Director Father Frank Bwalya has observed that certain statements Republican President Michael Sata makes undermine confidence in the presidency.

Commenting on President Sata’s statement in which he described the Sebastian Zulu-led commission of inquiry report on radar contracts for the three international airports as useless and wondered whether the Justice Minister was trying to protect Dora Siliya, Father Bwalya said such statements raise doubts on the government’s fight against corruption.

Fr Bwalya told QFM News that such statements by the head of state have the potential to further undermine the people’s confidence in the Patriotic Front government.

He said that there is need for the president’s advisors to advise him on the comments he makes in public.

Father Bwalya says if left unchecked, such statements have the potential portray that the PF’s fight against corruption is targeted at certain individuals.

And the Zambia Consumer Association ZACA has implored the PF Government to work towards reducing the cost of living in the country.

ZACA Executive Director Muyunda Ililonga observes that people’s expectations with regards what the PF is offering are still high.

He says it is therefore important that the Patriotic Front government works in accordance with people’s expectations.

Mr. Ililonga stated that one of the best ways towards meeting the people’s expectations is by reducing the cost of living.

He said that with the reduction in the cost of living, poverty levels in the country will also reduce gradually.

Mr Ililonga was speaking to QFM News.

FRA exports $70 million worth of maize

15
File: Livestock Minister Bradford Machila checking on workers offloading and packing FRA maize stored at ATZ warehouses

The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has exported 442,294 metric tonnes of maize valued at over 70 million US Dollars to countries within the SADC and COMESA regions, representing 49 percent of the total sales.

FRA Executive Director David Matongo in s statement released to QFM says the export countries include Zimbabwe with 29.09 percent, South Africa with 10.39 percent, Congo DR with 3.97 percent and Kenya with 1.64 percent.

Mr Matongo names other countries as Namibia with 1.26 percent, Mozambique with 0.99 percent, Burundi with 0.85 percent, and Rwanda with 0.50 percent.

He says the Agency further exported maize to Botswana with 0.20 percent, Madagascar with 0.08 percent and Malawi with 0.04 percent.

He adds that FRA also sold 460,492 metric tonnes of maize valued at over 68 million US Dollars to millers, stock feed manufacturers, the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) under the office of the Vice President and local communities in rural areas, representing 51 percent of the total sales.

Mr Matongo says the Agency has set aside 600,000 metric tonnes of maize as a buffer stock for strategic reserves by the beginning of the next Crop Marketing season.

He says this follows maize sales of 902,492 metric tonnes on both the local and international markets as at 31st March, 2012.

Last October, Government instructed the FRA to sale 1,067,000 metric tonnes of maize to avoid wastage of the crop.

With a population of about 13 million people, Zambia has a monthly consumption rate of 80,000 metric tonnes.

Mr Matongo explains that this means that the strategic reserve of 600,000 metric tonnes is more than sufficient to meet the country’s food requirements for at least seven months.

Siulapwa back in Zambia, urges people to give more time to President Sata to fix problems

45
New Generation Party leader Humphrey Siulapwa

New Generation Party (NGP) president Humphrey Siulapwa has resurfaced after a seven months long absence from the country.

Mr. Siulapwa, who was a strong supporter of the then ruling party,Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) before last year’s elections, said at a press briefing in Lusaka today that his return was aimed at providing checks and balances to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF)government.

Mr. Siulapwa, who was very critical and sarcastic on President Michael Sata prior to the September 20 elections, went in a self-imposed exile in the United States of America just after voting in the general elections last year.

He has however denied reports that he went to the US to hide from the wrath of the PF government after it became apparent that President Sata and the PF would win the presidential and general elections in 2011.

Mr. Siulapwa, who left to country for USA on the same day of voting, explained that he went out to be with his family which is based in America.

He has since promised to stay in Zambia and continue providing checks and balances to government.

Mr. Siulapwa has meanwhile asked Zambians to give President Michael Sata and the Patriotic Front (PF) government enough time to address the challenges the country is facing.

He noted that Zambia is facing huge challenges of unemployment which currently stand at about 70 percent.

The NGP leader has therefore asked government to create employment especially for the youths who form the majority of Zambia’s 13 million people.

He however noted that it was too early to judge whether the PF government has failed to create employment or not, adding that it needs more time to address this issues.

He was nevertheless was quick to advise government to start putting measures that will fulfill the promises of the PF.

In another development, Mr. Siulapwa has described the advocates of the Barotseland secession as rebels who should not be entertained by all well-meaning Zambians.

He said Zambia has always existed as one unitary state and therefore, no One should be allowed to divide it.

Mr. Siulapwa has since advised government to maintain Zambia as a unitary state despite pressure from secessionists.

The opposition leader has also commended and welcomed President Sata’s stance on fighting corruption in the country.

He said corruption should not be condoned due to its bad effects on the economy of the country.

Mr. Siulapwa observed that corruption has been the main cause of extreme poverty in Africa.

Mr. Siulapwa said anyone who is perceived to have stolen public funds should be made to pay through the courts of law.

He has however advised the President to stop issuing sensitive statement on suspects of corruption in the media saying this might jeopardise the good fight.

He said the fight against corruption should not be used to settle political scores.

Track K2 trillion oil scam fraudsters – TIZ

17

Transparency International Zambia has called on law enforcement agencies to expeditiously investigate and prosecute the K2 trillion oil scam fraudsters.

TIZ Executive Director Goodwell Lungu tells QFM News that law enforcement agencies need to move with a great sense of urgency to avoid overlooking and killing such cases as they have done in the past.

Mr Lungu says TIZ further calls on the Anti Corruption Commission to turn the call by the Republican President that they are no longer an effective institution into positive action by awakening from the slumber.

He says as TIZ, they have always had hope in the ACC that it is just a sleeping giant that can perform to public expectation.

He has also urged the ACC to take the President’s concern seriously as it has been a major concern of TIZ and many citizens.

Mr Lungu adds that TIZ believes the ACC has the capacity of translating the challenge into positive and formidable actions.

He further states that it is an undeniable fact that law enforcement agencies in certain cases have been slow in executing cases to the extent of abandoning very straight forward cases resulting into the loss of billions and trillions of public funds.

He says the Anti Corruption Commission and law enforcement agencies should equally take advantage of readily available information which they can use in their investigations.

Mr Lungu has since implored the ACC and other law enforcement agencies to take advantage of the prevailing political will in fighting corruption and translate it into tangible results of preventing the plunder of trillions of public funds as they have the potential to prosecute these cases and send clear deterrent warning message to other would be offenders.
