Cyclist seriously injured in a bicycle collision in Lundazi

A 30-year-old teacher of Mphamba Day Secondary School in Lundazi District is lying unconscious in Lundazi District hospital after being involved in a head-on bicycle collision.

Both police and Lundazi District Director of Health, Allan Chisenga, confirmed the accident to ZANIS in Lundazi which happened around 07 hours yesterday along the Lundazi-Mphamba road.

The victim has been identified as Perry Chingwele, a resident of Lundazi Boarding school teachers’ compound.

Dr. Chisenga said Chingwele sustained severe head injuries.

Dr. Chisenga explained that Chingwele sustained a depression skull injury on the right side of the head.

He disclosed that plans have been made for the immediate evacuation of Chingwele to St. Francis Hospital in Katete District for further medical attention.

And police sources named the other cyclist involved in the same accident as, Sam Phiri, aged 28 of Chikoloka village Chief Mphamba, who escaped unhurt.

And Lundazi residents have expressed worry over the increase in the number of accidents happening along Mphamba road.

They have since appealed to management at Mphamba secondary and new Kabinda Day High Secondary ro consider mounting humps on the road to reduce further accidents.

  1. Ya what is happening in Eastern Province. Is it because of that useless Bicycle plant they had? Isn’t this the province where they impounded bicycles for traffic violations? Or is it the rats bred on GM junk food that my cousin are feasting on? Come on Easterners bicycles are safe. What is going on?

  2. For safety reasons it is advisable for cyclists to be wearing helmets to protect them from head injuries in case of an accident. I worked in eastern provice for 14 years and have witnessed fatal bicycle accidents. Prevention is better than cure.

  4. I developed nations that I know, you can’t ride a bicycle without a helmet.Bicycles should also have lights if they are to be cycled in the dark.Government should impose restrictive laws

  5. # 1 an accident can happen anywhere. Last year a man died in Chisamba after being involved in a head on bicycle collision. It is not about the plant in the eastern or the pipo in the eastern. feel sori for the one that has to be taken to a big hospital due to injuries than you asking why? you are so inhuman…your name

  10. Zanbia need to improve it’s road and Safety Policies. May DUI was the many factor. I feel sorry to the gentleman and his family, i’m wishing him a quick recoverly from the hospital.

  11. Bwoy, watta story! Imagine 2 cyclists colliding wit one a dem getting seriously injured while de other one escapes unhurt? Wah kind a bike was de survivor riding? De one dem call Steel horse?
