Herve Renard’s reign as Zambian coach began on a bright start after his team drew 2-2 away in a friendly international in Tripoli on Thursday evening.
Libya rallied twice to finish level against their guests who now remain unbeaten against their hosts in three successive meetings.
Kabwe Warriors striker Emmanuel Mayuka and Young Arrows winger Chiwanki Liyanga each scored for Zambia with Libya finding the target in-between.
Liyanga’s goal was his first international goal in his 4th senior cap while Mayuka joins midfielder Felix Katongo of Stades Rennes in 3 international goals for Zambia so far this year.
The team leaves for Tehran today and will be joined there by Zanaco striker Roger Kola, Katongo, midfielder Isaac Chansa of Helsingborg in Sweden and Clifford Mulenga from South African Premier League side Bidvest Wits.
Zambia face Iran in Tehran this Sunday in their final friendly international before heading to Ghana ahead of their 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier against Togo in Accra on May 31.
ok got the results now, thank you
Thanks, I have been searching feverishly for the result. I will be eagerly awaiting details. I don’t want to make comment until then.
Good result, will comment after getting more details.
I can comment even before getting more details. Fair result although allowing goals is a source of worry.
Alternately, my initial reaction would be more pessimistic. Libya should be a beatable team, I do agree about the number of goals is a worry, that was the problem in Ghana a few months ago. But I shall wait to know more.
Poor start for zambia, this simply means we are not going to far.
When you have a coach, new FAZ and the begining of the games we were suppose to winnning, draw games are for semi finals or final
Improve guys you have the capacity to do so.
Fair results since the coach is new & he doesn’t know the players fully.Go z Go & conquor!
Give them a chance , remember that game aws played away in Libya and i believe thats a fair result.
Good start for the new coach. I hope he learnt a lot from this game to polish up the team for the Togo encounter. According to The Post,Togo has summoned 11 Pros including Adebayor.
Our defence still remain a source.New coach must do something.
Our defence still remain a source of worry.New coach must do something
we are moving on a better track except, the defence has to be checked. The coach is still assessing the players.Iran here we come!.Go zambia GO
Fair result, you have got to realise that he was using what I would term a make shift side as most of the pros starting with keeper are not with the team. That said coach should take care of loopholes in defence. Best Wishes.
we are on course,go zambia go
What? We drew with Libya?
Fair start coach Herve Ranard. Please work on the defense – for the 2 goals Libya scored exhibit it as porous.
We continue demanding for better performances compared to this Libya one in the upcoming games.
All the best as you settle coach.
We just need to win every game that that should be our aim if we are to develop the the game.players are supposed to compete for places
Ya this Ka Site is Good ai? Searched the net for this this result and couldn’t get it. Why aren’t these big papers in Zed so responsive? Anyway, sounds like this is a good result regarding that they were in front twice. Am sure there are still issues with the defence. Anybody who will find a clip for the goals on you tube please share
The game in Theran will be tougher, it will show the coach were our real problems are. Iran have been to the last two world cups, am sure this game will be an eye opener to the coach of the areas he needs to work on.Other wise all in all it is a fair result considering the fact that Libya were using a full strength team
its a good result but defence needs to be worked.
Can we be availed with full team line up please. It would help for a better analysis.
What a good start, our coach is doing a great job,we need such high class coaches who can read the game. With such preparation i see Togo crumbling down with a 3 to 1 margin.all the best chippolopollo.
If we do not develop good defenders and defensive midfielders, we are likely to struggle in the qualifiers. At the moment we are failing to hold to our leads especially against formodable sides.
Otherwise not a bad result for the new coach
not good enuff fire the coach in his first match he was supposed to win….in fact lets lynch him!!!!
Anyway guys don’t get carried away. Libya is a spent force now. Just check their record of late, they have been pathetic and am sure this is a good result for them and NOT Zambia. I good squad would have won this match in Libya. I will probably THINK of heaping praise on the Coach after Sunday Match. Libya is just another Sudan.
The game against Iran will be tough. Iran has a pretty good squad and play good football. Those who watched them (Iran) at the last WC in Germany will agree with me.
zedians get over excited, there is no need to get over excited,it time to reflect,a draw and to give away a lead is a game is something bad
Zedians this is just a friendly match, you need not to worry. Big teams like Brazil, Germany and Argentina have lost or drawn with small teams like iceland in friendlies. It is in friendlies that you guage your strengths and weeknesses for the real matches. Besides the coach does not yet know any of the players, he did not choose the team and he has promised changes. An away draw is good for a start. He must have learnt something from the match. Let’s see what happens next match.
hey guys no one is excited, we are jst sayin it is a gud result. this year we have only lost to cameroon. we are not doin so bad.
Togo can summon everyone in their country including Adebayor but those who will play are only 11. Summoning 11 pro-players is just a psychological gimmick. Togo is beatable. We are talking football here. They have no immunity against loosing. Go Zambia. Fair result for a start.
Lets just wait for the game. Togo has every right to bring in professionals, be it 11, 20 etc. All we have to do as Zambia is to prepare adequately for the match. This is an important game which we can not afford to lose.
Well it is a friendly match and its not really a big deal even if we loose or draw or win. Such games are important for coaches to judge thier players and tactics.
The real thing will be next week when we play Togo.
Eyes on the ball.
not bad for a first game in charge, especially that our big guns are not even in camp yet, we will see how the Iran games goes.
all the best
In friendlies the result is not the most important thing ,its only that it can have psychological effect on the team.Only those that organised the friendly can tell if the result is ok or not as every frindly game has its own objectives
how about defender Tana Elija? who knows his whereabouts?
the defence is too weak. Something needs to be done. I would suggest playing Misheck Lungu in a defensive midefield position. E
the defence is too weak. Something needs to be done. I would suggest playing Misheck Lungu in a defensive midefield position. Edwin Phiri at left back and Chintu Kampamba in the centre. Who to partner Chintu is the major problem. The defensive is a major concern.Iran is a strong team and will punish Zambia if they dont concentrate. I also believe Kennedy Mwene is not good enough to be the first choice. He is vertically challenged. He has good reflexes but he’s too short to be Zambia’s #1.
it is fair result and also a good start for the new coach. Alot need to be done on the defence. The other thing is there is no small team in today’s football. All what is needed is hard work by the Chipolopolo boys.
Elija Tana is just chasing women and drinking on the copperbelt. Forget about that chap ..he is useless and finished
# 24 your comments are so wounding. why fire the coach? Why cant we give this man the saport? we are good at critics. The post was advertised and you could not apply for the job if u did then u were not picked. Let us sapot the coach and the team instead of dissing him. he knows that the defence is weak and he is looking for good defenders he hasnt watched the local games to identify the defenders….pa Zed we are good at finger pointing. BILLY yes Iran is a good team and its good FAZ has now started playing friendlies with good teams. In the past we would consider ourselves champs after beating the weak bafana bafana. Good move FAZ.Months to come we will play Egypt, Mali n France.
Good results;its not good to always think negatively!
As for our worryng defense,i would suggest Misheck lungu and Billy mwanza in central,Hachilensa right back,Joseph Musonda left
Good luck
countrymen!! so much about the coach.Believe me the Libya game was not meant to assess the coach.Even in Europe coaches are assessed not at the beginning of the season but at the end of the season
thanks choma 1
imwe lets leave every thing in the hands of the coach the guy has just come i conqure with you no40.Have a good African freedom day Zambia.
Guys are you forgetting about HH??? The guy is young but can really marshall the defence. Great job Zambia, go and conquer the Iranians
i think zed won’t drop points in tht group. cuz we are meeting TOGO in ghana. cuz the stadia has been banned. And swaziland is our bread and butter. even our under 20 can handle them.so i think 3 points for all the group games. EYES ON THE BALL
Fair result tho @ this stage, wi nid 2 win 2 send terror 2 togo, u cn do it go 4 it chipolopola
what happened to Elija Tana….our defence is weak without him. Libya is a team we should walk over….Zambia are like chelsea fc. Good players when it suits them. Renerd must produce against Iran because it is a stronger team.
Mean while, well done.
### 46 the stadia in Togo are better than ours Fifa banned Togo from hosting the games because of the unruly behaviour of the sapotas. They ran amok destroying infrastructure when Togo was betean at home. Not that they have bad stadia. Soccer changes day in day out. Swazi is not a team to underate it can upset Zambia as well. Remember Zambia has been wired before by Swaziland. Mind you Mashaba is the new swazi coach. We can only take advantage of the confusion in TFA but remember Keshi left a good team and no changes have been made. we axed them when he Keshi was coach at Konkola.
Well, good start Mr. Renard courage and the chipopolo boys too. You should work hard in order to perform well in future. God bless you all.
Score line for Zambia was fantastic but my concern is in defence.I suggest the coacch should work extra hard in this field.
Tana is a tired and retired defender!!! Go to Buyantanshi in chingola you will find him shaking! That’s what he does best now
Ok ba Zed,well done.U always start well, then u start ya limpin..Renard…I gat my eyes on you.ya CV didn’t impress me,so shud you tumble,we’ll whup you out of Zed.
What happened to Keshi?
TOGO COACH WANTS DEAL
NEWLY-appointed Togo national team coach, Henri Stambouli, has threatened to quit if the Togo Football Federation (TFF) does not offer him a contract by today.
And TFF has named 18 players, comprises only two locals, for Sunday’s friendly against Libya ahead of the joined 2010 Africa Cup and World Cup qualifier against Zambia next Saturday.
According to The Actualite newspaper, the Frenchman arrived in Lome a week ago and was due to sign a contract with the TFF last Friday.
With the headline ‘Will Stambouli slam the door?’ the publication reported that the signing ceremony between the two parties was rescheduled for Tuesday this week
Choma1,u sim to be more mature in #42 blog contribution, please kip it up ,I’m impressed.
No. 40 i reject ur deposit bring ur gay ass out of the closet, my comments were said in jest and not aimed at anyone in particular all of a sudden u wanna make this personal u are an attention seeking bastard looking to start a vendetta well i aint like that. If u want to pretend that u are a girl on the internet thats your business i like joking around and if u out of 53 people never realised i was joking around then u can shove ur dildos where the sun don’t shine….u have been warned goddamnit!!!
Libya 2 Zambia 2 anc i overstand since it was an away game. Are there no more information about the game?
Big up Zed,promise us better results.Hammer Iran
Iran has being to the world cup several times. They even have players at Bayern Munich and other bundesliga clubs. Zambia may struggle.
Unfortunately there is little time to experiment at defence, I would say give Henry Nyambe a chance at centerback. Sunday will be a interesting match, Iran are World Cup quality.
Good result, Libya are strong at home, have beaten Teams like Egypt, Tunisia etc, they only been poor at home, and remember these guys have not trianed together even for a week, it,s been all travelling etc, so I feel we are heading in the right direction. Once our players start to understand the tactical aspect of the game in a broad manner, I do not see any reason why we can not get to the top. The new coach will only need to impatc some tactical know how to the whole squad, pantu elyia na yo iwa bu number 7 na 11, bu winger (4-2-4) system yapwa akale. Katongo in front plus someone tall to partner him (4-4-2), na ma wingers kula defender, noti ukwi kala fwe no ku la lo le bola, those days
..are gone. R will only need to adjust a few things and Zed will be flying once more. I feel this guy knows what he needs to do to turn things our way
You Zambians you funny people. The team needs a bit of time to develop coehesiveness. The strikers are good and the mid is supplying the balls upfront. Defenders needs a strong weep. Renard did not put this squad together. This was annnouned by FAZ. Why blame the coach at this point when the man has been in charge for less than a week? Let us be realistic in our critisms.Football is no longer a one country thing, it is a global sport. Do not expect your opponents to keep their legs open so that you can win. Go Zambia!
This was a fair result against Libya and I think that once Renard solves our problems in defense then we`ll be okay.Fixing the defense is much easier than the offense. No wonder it`s simpler to convert a striker to a defender than the other way round.I remember how the hot shot Ashios Melu played for the national team as a striker and then later was turned into a defender.
All we need to do against Togo is to avoid a loss then our prospects of qualifying to the world cup will really be bright.
#54 Ba Chapi, Stephen Keshi is now the coach of Mali. Togo decided a long time ago not to renew his contract, which is why I was bothered that we never gave him another look even when we knew this.
A draw away to Libya is a positive result for us. With our new coach, we`ll be experimenting with players inorder to get a good balance. The performance of Zambia against Cameroon is a prime example of how much we need to improve especialy defensively.
A good defense is a pillar of strenght we can build on,i do bleieve that a partnership of Sichone and Tana with Sinkala as sweeper would have taken us past the group stage.
Lets get behind our new general as we did for the late Potterfield. The only way is up for Zambia and i do believe with time its possible.
Common Zed One love lets wear our jerseys with Pride and play to our potential.
Is there any word as to what the starting XI was?
To be honest im worried especially that we have drawn against Libya its like another Sudan. However good result result from renard not bad at least a draw for a team that he didnt pick its only experimental besides Libya are using a full strength side and we just flexing our muscles.GO ZAMBIA GO!!!
Zambia still sucks, how can you guys draw and start celebrating? This is very sick and sad.You cant tell me this was a good result unless you have a shallow brain, nowander Zambia will never make it to the World Cup. Look and Angola, they have been there and they are going again.ZAMBIAN PLAYERS TOO MUCH CHIBUKU AND TO GELO. This new coach cant not make miracles for Zambia. YOU CAN TAKE A HORSE TO THE RIVER BUT YOU CANT MAKE IT DRINK WATER, This applies to all Zambia Nation Team Players, they ALL SUCK PERIOD!!! Nobody can argue about this. I know there still die hard fans, this real brothers
congrats guys consindering it was an away game.dosani u r the 1 who sucks bcoz a r a fool who is not realistic.that team that played libya had non of our key players,so next time dont u talk like that about our.
#69,Man you seem to be blind and it you don’t want to face realty, Zambia sucks with or without your so called good players. Don’t Zambia Nation Team experiment players in each game? Let me take you to school pupil, All you ZAMBIANS ARE FOND OF EXCUSES ALL THE TIME.This time your team tie with Libya 2-2 to you guys this is the greatest result and This will be a PUBLIC HOLIDAY IN ZAMBIA, FREE BEERS, THE TEAM WILLBE WELCOME FROM THE AIRPORT BY THE PRESIDENT AND THE ENTIRE CABINET MINISTERS WITH A RED CARPET. Job well done young team and will beat the rest of the WORLD. Full of dreams or nightmares guys. Just know ZAMBIA NATIONAL TEAM SUCKS PERIOD!! Get i get AMEN??
Great result away. Libya is a great team. This i must is a posive indicator for more positives to come. Our midfield is one of the best on our continent as much as our frontline. Our defence is yet to improve. Well done guys and all the best on sunday. Togo is our student. Everyone knows that. I am too confident with my claim for a victory on sunday. Go Zambia Go.
Tuta! Our boys are going to do it!
The Goal Keeper was Kakonje and he is not a stable guy I trust in goal. We have alot of work to do in defense and goal keeping. Mweene is better I’m not sure about Poto. Nurture a stable goal keeper good denfeders and then can Zambia perform better. I remember the days of Chabala, Davis and James phiri, and Richard Mwanza, and Ghost Mulenga. This guys helped us alot to maintain low number of goals allowed.
zambia will lose the finals anyway. we spend so much money on these people
who cannot even sign autographs for our children.
i am tired maybe we should introduce bunji jumping as a sport, less people will do it, less money will be spent on chipolopolo and that money can be used for schools and the many pot holes we have.
I am so tired of this chipolopolo, what happened to masauso tembo?anyone know?
#74 you have good points, why spend money on these fools? Spend money on education, agricultural, health, economy, housing, roads than on these fools who get payed and send it on prostuties anyway. Zambia still has a long way to go in Soccer, no one will tell me that Zambia in 10 years will win the Africa Cup, or they will make it to the World Cup. So we shouldn’t even waste time to argue about this topic. Introduce new sport like fishing, no no many Zambians can’t even swim. So maybe drink, that sound like idea for ZAMBIANS.
# 74 & 75 Have you ever heard about the word ” Allocation” ???? One thing you are forgetting is football is a sport of probability. You win, lose or draw. Remember other teams are not sleeping they are also working hard. Let us support our boys because only teamwork can bring about better results. The task ahead is crutial there is not time to explain things. Zambians sports need stif competition locally and international. Friendly matches are there to help the technical bench to discover weakness. Remember boys a coach will never win a match but he can inspire our boys to bringing about desired results – go go Zambia.
#74&75 Mwe mbwa mwe mwe south africans, ba kolwe, nomba mwa yamba ukwi paya na bale mwafilisha ko. Kwena Mbeki litolo
#74 Masauso Tembo is with Lusaka Dynamos. I take it you do not even have a taste of local football-Shame. Why then must you comment on things you do not understand? Better you just proceed with “bungi” aspirations and good luck .
#76 You are the one. Bravo. Do you remember that we are the only team that drew with the african champions during CAN? Our boys have everything it takes to perform. All they need are people like you and me post positive sentiments of encouragement. EG: Felix Katongo plays his trade with Rennes in France with the likes of Cameroonian Mbia as well as French international and former Arsenal forward, Wiltord. Go CHIPOLOPOLO Go.
#76 and #78 mafontini, F@ck ZAMBIA, who care a about this sh!t county anyway.
#77 FU@CK YOUR PANK ASS FOOL. FU AND THE ZAMBIA SOCCER TEAM TOO, YOU FOOLS SUCKS.
#79/#80 DASANI
This is an intellectually charged blog and not for the mentally challenged.
Simply offer any counter arguments if you`ve got any without resortng to insults.
78, 78 and 81. Good reasoning/points.
as much as i am controversial i dont think ur comments are welcome dasani that language is unjustifiable under the circumstances u would do well if u could apologise or left altogether coz u have reached a point of no return …..either way….
Good morning to everyone, sorry to those people who feel insulted by my actions. Again sorry country men.I will be smooth with any of your. Peace in Zambia
I thought to blog again after long spell, but with like of Dasani Iam afriad we cannot go anywhere. His mouth is full insults dont who which decided to sent him Chainama he even become more confused. Zambia gogo, he seems not to be Zambian.
#84 thank you for coming back from the graveward because its for mad ones which I believe you are not.
What are the u20 results?
