Government has released K700 Million for the construction of low cost houses for council officers in Nyimba district in Eastern province.
Acting District Council Secretary Mathinda Chima told ZANIS today in an interview that the funds were released for construction of seven low cost houses to address the accommodation problems that officers are currently facing in the district.
Mr Chima disclosed that the district only has seven low cost houses that have been reserved for senior officers.
Construction works which started earlier in the month, would be complete by August according to schedule.

“There are only seven old houses that were built for messengers when Nyimba was a sub centre for Petauke district before it was established as a district and the same houses have been reserved for senior officer,” he said.

He stated that though there is a critical shortage of accommodation, only seven houses would be built from the resources which were released.
The Acting Council secretary said government officers in the district are faced with a critical shortage of both office and house accommodation.
Mr Chima said the council has already started building the houses which are now at the foundation level.
He said more money would be required to build more houses for the officers and for rent to other people in the district .

  1. Let us see more of construction and rehabilitation in the country. There is a lot of money that is misappropriated

  2. In South Africa 14 low cost houses can be built from K700 MILLION. It costs R80,000.00 to build one good low cost house in SA. I hope every dime will be accounted for as they build only 7 houses from K700,000,000.00

  3. From the look of things, it seems they are building these structures at a cost of ZMK 100 Million. I wonder who the constructor is and if that was the most cost effective one or maybe part of it is for the Acting Council Secretary and his officers as allowances as they go to inspect the project.Hope this project will be complete on time and be reported back to the nation.

  4. These mbwalalas will never stop their looting. A Low Cost house can not cost K100m. That’s day light robbery.

  5. For God ‘s sake please why didnt you start with say western or n/w atleast to show it has nothing to do with tribe or paying in kind. Know sense of feeling. I smell a rat actualy a dog.

  6. It seems only two provinces are going to benefit from this govt. Last time I read it was the province connected to VP Kunda, now it is the province connected to RB. What is going on here? What about Northern and Luapula? Awe bane aya amano tayaweme. This kind of behavior brought problems in Congo.

  7. I knew as soon as I saw the headline that the ethnic or tribal component would rear its head on this blog. It seems that if you are a president or vp you should not approve any developments in your area because people will start talking.
