After missing a penalty for Zambia on Saturday against Rwanda, this is one dramatic week Collins Mbesuma will want to forget very quickly.
Not even his public apology for the penalty miss and stuttering show could save the under-fire striker today after Herve Renard announced that he had dropped the fallen Zambia star ahead of the teams 2010 World/Africa Cup Group C qualifier against Algeria on June 20 in Chililabombwe.
Mbesuma had already missed the first day of training on Tuesday due to a reported illness fueling speculation as to which direction his international future under Renard would go.
Renard said at Sunset stadium in Lusaka on a grey, cold windswept Wednesday morning that Mbesuma was no longer part of his plans for the Group C home game against Algeria.
“He is not in my plans for the game against Algeria,” Renard said at the end of the team a final training session at Zanaco’s home ground before departing with his team for a one-week training camp in South Africa.
“Its better to be honest because he is not ready psychologically.”
For Mbesuma now, the next step is to search for a new club with the looming end to his one-season deal with South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns closing in on June 30.
This could also possibly mark the fiery Zambia striker’s last match under Renard’s reign who previously dropped him in March before the teams opening Group C game away against Egypt on march 29 that ended 1-1 in Cairo.
Renard has of late not been afraid to weld his stick and has yet to recall one Roger Kola.
Also ruled out of the Algeria clash is the Chinese-based attacking midfielder James Chamanga of Dalian Hai Chang.
Coincidentally, Chamanga replaced Mbesuma in the game against Rwanda in the 74th minute after the troubled striker did an in-out after coming on in the 35th minute.
Chamanga, who was also dropped for the Egypt game last March, returned to China on Sunday to attend to club commitments.
Renard has said no replacements will be called up for the duo.
The team returns home on Wednesday from Johannesburg and will take a direct flight from South Africa to Ndola ahead of the game to be played at Konkola Stadium.
Too bad the boy’s career is nose-diving in this manner. I hope he has made some savings to come and start life with in Luanshya once he finds that he is not ticking even in South Africa. Indiscipline yalimulyo mwaicoyu.
Sad to see how a young promising soccer career can fall as bad as Mbesumas. Its speaks to the larger problem of the poor management of talent in Zambia. He like many other youngmen were never prepared for the spotlight and the amount of physical psycological fortitude needed to play at a high level.
mbesuma is finished
Very sad news.

Prevention is better than cure.
Feel sorry for the boy. I met him when he was at Pompey. Say whatever you want about him, the boy was “cool” when I met him. Funny how things turn out! I hope he had saved a few pounds when he was here. I know Zambians would as always want to see him suffer. God bless Collins!
why does the team have camp in SA for our home fixtures??? I Don’t get it.
haha from one Emmauel Zulu to one Mbesuma….
the Saga Continues…
i wonder who will be feeling sorry for as a player in the next few years…
i will be waiting eagerly and hoping this Blog and the same people are still on so we can all have a laugh
at the next player who flushes his own career down the Chi-dunkie (Septic Tank)
Goodluck Chipolopolo…!!
He must just concentrate on his business and develop that.
I hope the Macopolo bus you bought few years back has multiplied into two or more buses. Good luck Mbesuma
#6 Zulu 83, the reason could be that we do not have training infrastructure, such a shameful excuse. And when we run down the infrastructure there may be we will start camping in the USA, it appears to be economically sustainable that way. LOL
the first shall be last and the last shall be first
Learn from experience Mbesuma, Observation is a greater teacher than experience, but learn from what you gone through; you still know how to kick a ball right? May you seek the Lord and put yourself back on track for your wife and child. Forget the positive and negative criticism you receive from us the spectators, it is your life.
This is indeed sad news.I wish he never rushed to get that ball to take a penalty. Those who still thought Mbesuma is still in his fine form have also contributed for him ending like this, because the wrong impression continued when our former star was no more, even appearing in every back page of our newspapers.we had people who were stars but their career ended quietly. Also dont forget our former star was at one time bigheaded drinking shake shake in luanshya was his friends are in camp already.LET THIS BE A LESSON TO OTHERS.even if life has stages, this is a bad stage for Mbesuma.MBESUMA accept the stage and live on…FILACITIKA KABILI FISANGA BAUME,NI MUKASHI WANDI NJIPIKILA ISEMBE.
GOVERMENT SPOKESMAN,
Which Marcopolo buses? I hope you are not mistaking the two white WADA CHOVU buses which rumour had it were for mbesuma.those buses are for the two hard working brothers in luanshya names reserved.they’ve got nothing to do with mbesuma.infact renard discarded mbesuma a long time ago only that kalusha been the guy who benefits from all mbesuma transaction used to influence his selection but the whiteman has now got a chance to wield his axe. 1.miss training in joburg. 2.off form and miss penalty 3.miss another training session.this time not even kalusha will rescue
I live in London and used to watch Mbesuma on TV when he played for Portsmouth on the South coast. He was quite impressive and i’m not sure if he is being treated like this for missing a penalty or there are other reasons behind this. If it’s just about missing the penalty then it is very unfortunate. Some top world-class players in Europe and South America have missed penalties in crucial games, for instance Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo and Berbatov all of Manchester United have missed penalties during this just ended premier league season but have not been treated so harshly by their club. Please, please give the young man a chance!
gud luck colllins,i hope u find a new club
Please reserve some comments are not helping the man
This is good news for the nation. This boy has been enough chances to resurect his career either at club or international level but has not been disciplined enough. Whether it is low IQ, lack of education or I do not care attitude, he has started reaping results of failure to accept advice. Being a Zambian i thought Porthsmouth were not fair to Mbesuma but now they have been vindicated. May be the boy has made enough money. He has no idea of what profesionalism in sports mean. He has been warned enough. We have people who dedicated his life for mother Zambia like Johnstone Bwalya who do not get and did not get the praise for the efforts they put. Have no mercy on Mbesuma just advise him to change his behaviour.
Fellow country men, this is not the time to start critising & calling Mbesuma all sorts of unbaptised names but rather try to encourage & motivate the young man. Like everyone else, life has its ups & downs whether be it careerwise, relationships, financial, spiritual, etc. As the coach has rightly put it that Collins is not ready pyschologically and this could be due to the fact that Sundowns have terminated his contract (currently clubless) and masses calling for his blood after missing the much desired penalty. After all he is not the first player ever to miss a penalty,i.e. Great Kalu & Roberto baggio have missed vital penalties before. Plse do not get me wrong, I am not condoning sub-standard performance-my main problem is lets try to build rather than to destroy.
Mbesuma is reported hill. HR is quoted as saying Mbesuma is not in game plan against Algeria but NOT from all WC games that Zambia is still playing in few months ahead. This time is just a psychological inertia he is dealing with. Please read between the lines when you read some these articles.
The illness is the depression, i feel for the man, the trauma of missing a penalty is just too much
imwe!!! DOES MBESUMA KNOW KNOW HOW TO READ ENGLISH???- Chibuku sana ba mbesuma kwati ta mwaikalapo kubulaya!!! yaba, you’re a disgrace modala, kashitishe amalasha!!! O maybe try to repent who knows, maybe the Lord will forgive you.
imwe!!! DOES MBESUMA KNOW KNOW HOW TO READ ENGLISH???- Chibuku sana ba mbesuma kwati ta mwaikalapo kubulaya!!! yaba, you’re a disgrace modala, kashitishe amalasha!!!
This boy Mbesuma has always been overrated by Zambia. He lacks discipline. What took the country so long to wake up to this fact? Pompey offloaded him, Maritimo did same, then that team in Turkey and now Sundowns. All these are not basing their decisions on one missed penalty! In fact, that missed penalty could become the boy’s greatest gift from heaven yet. He could decide to use his present disaffection to develop that important little ingredient he has always lacked – discipline, and, what d’you know, the boys is playing big time again and this time enjoying it thoroughly! Afterall it’s only a game, meant to be enjoyed!!
FAT BOY has been given all the chances anybody can ever need as far as football is concerned. He is not growing any younger and he needs to realise that. If he can’t learn anything to save his short football career touch luck. Let him go back to the basics and join Roan United. If he improves, I will be the first one to drop the FAT BOY tag. In fact am one of those who used to call Renard P.E teacher but I have stopped because he earned back my respect . So Mbesuma needs to earn my respect, other FAT BOY go back to Roan United and rebuild your career and I hope Kalusha is not imposing FAT BOY on the coach
Ba mudala ka brain zoona, sashani iyo???? imwe mwasuka ati “mpuseku amano elyo nshale nenshi”!!! Noomba posaku amano mudala, waishiba icalo ifyo chaba
#23 (soccer fan…), EVEN KU ROAN UNITED, he can’t make it- start a new team and put him in your squad- i think you’ll also drop him, chalitemwa ifi ma bad manners- so ifyo balelamda ati he was ill, fyabufi, he was drinking chibuku- imwe tamwamwishiba mbesuma, tekanyeni!!! bula panshi!
…but about giving him a chance: well, only he can give himself the chance. He has all the freedom to find a new club – I propose Nakambala or Kalulushi Mordern Stars. Then the choice to shine there is also entirely his. And to reapture the media gaze and all… at the end of the day, we cannot keep denying the other more disciplined youngsters on the team the opportunity to play simply because of baMbesuma. EVERYONE – absolutely everyone – must earn their place in the team, even on the bench.
mwandini that chap’s behaviour has pained me a lot- he ent ahead with his body but left the brains behind, anyway we males have 2 heads (big one and small one [you all know what it is, i’m trying to be polite]), maybe he was making much using of the small head, STUPID BOY!!!
Ati Mbesuma anapasa mimba ku Mufurila?
yABA!!! Going ahead without brains, this what it means my boy (Mbesuma) in case you do read english “an unexamined life is not weathy living” (SOcrates)
#27 (Njika…)- ok i see!!!- so he was scoring somewhere??? hahahhhahahaa, ubupuba ba mbesuma- hooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christiano Ronaldo is 24 yrs, abena Kaka et al, they have financial advisors, etc, i really wish you were like them, sorry boy- anyway we really don’t know who to blame apart from you- maybe you choose to play as staring you bad company with local advisors who just enjoyed your chibuku
anyway i’m now bored commenting about Mbesuma- i put in my prayers big brother- hope you do well, as for now, Ciao!!! see you later Mr Aligator!!!!
Its so sad to learn that the guy’s brain is ugly like his face. The “ful” was over speeding when he was supposed to be in camp. I can sympathise with such a lunatic. He is used with ghetto life.
What ever the reason, thats very harsh…
I just hope this guy called Mbesuma was serving some money, otherwise his days are numbered now.Harrison Chongo and Litana are finished so will mbesuma.
lets pray for him
The caoch should also be judged harshly should we lose against Algeria or Egypt. Mbesuma is still a good player and our national asset. Dropping him is too harsh and not helping him psychologically. He is nt the first to miss a penalty. Renard u are putting your job on the line.
# 14
Iwe, who are trying to cheat?
Mbesuma featured for Pompey just a few times as a substutite.
I bet he never even played for more than 20 mins for Pompey’s first team.
I dont understand when you say “I used to watch him”
The Chat is just an over rated and indiciplined player.
I just hope others learn from him.
Good decision Renard
Ati “mbesuma apasa mimba ku Luanshya?” Is he not a man? Alibe? Chibuku si beer? Do u feed him? Leave him alone. If thats is the end of his career musiyeni. You were not feeding him even before. Gode
Football is a game of strategy. If Renar thinks its okey to drop Mbesuma lets see what happens. Its not like you want it to be.Its different on the pitch.I know some of you fans have never played football before. Please leave Mbesuma alone,at least he has played football before and not madala football where you kick the ball anywhere.Do not just critisize get in your shorts and try to kick the ball around and see if you can be tactical. Sometimes actions are louder than words. Do not just sit in them stands shouting insults with beer on your breaths.Try to be sporty also.
#7 that is very negative thinking. Instead of encouraging your fellow Zambians you wish some one will fall so that you have a laugh or something to talk about. How sad. We all make mistakes and all we need is support and encouragement. If you have followed sport in general for some time you will observe that some of the so called great players past or present lost it along the way before they got to the so called great or legend status. Jeniffer Capriati and Andre Agassi are some of the examples. Jeniffer was even arrested for shop lifting because of her drug addiction. She rose from the ashes and won 3 grand slams in tennis. Support one another instead of being jealous of their success. God bless you and Mbesuma.
Ama age yabufi are now begining to show, the ‘boy’ looks 40 to me
The caoch should also be judged harshly should we lose against Algeria or Egypt. Mbesuma is still a good player and our national asset. Dropping him is too harsh and not helping him psychologically. He is nt the first to miss a penalty. Renard u are putting your job on the line. all, you have to do is help the boy to be back inform and use him, then you will be named the best ever for zambia.
anyway good luck but if you lose we are going to custrate you.
Good for him. Now we shall see if those prostitutes will be following him like bees
WE DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT LONG B4 THE ZAMBIAN COACH DID WHAT IS RIGHT: I GUESS HE READS OUR COMMENTS ESPECIALLY MY VERY TIMELY ADVICE THAT WHEN A MOP CAN NOT DO THE THE JOB ANY MORE THROW IT IN THE DAMP FOR DISPOSAL: ITS JUST THAT SIMPLE. THANK YOU RENARD! NOW BEAT ALGERIA. PLIZ!
Abena NSN
Which pompey did you use to watch where mbesumq used to feature regularly?ninshi ifwe superspot yaletubepa nang mulefwayafye ukutwishibisha ati mwika euro.fyakale boss.ba guy balifililwe
#23 Well said. Ba Kwindi imwe are all overseas how do you you hav e so much input on Mbesuma. Where do you see him play? Be objective. 4 teams hav got rid of him in three years. Any proffesion you must be useless with such a statisitc!!
#6
I like your observation.Last time they camped in SA,they came and struggled on the pitch because they were used to the SA pitches.Imagine the train in SA for one month and they they arrive in Zambia a day or two before the match, how do you adapt?Good luck Hurricane may the lord be with you as I pray that you bounce back stronger.
Hey Mbesuma, its not the end of the world, people will always talk positives and negatives, they majorite love the latter,so pick up your-self and rise, you alone can do it,all the best young man.
I Didn’t expect that move so soon.Whoever the adviser to Renard is got it wrong this time.Mbesuma is not finished he still has a force to reckon over opponents. This time he needed more of our support as soccer fans and also coaching staff itself. The young man has performed so well and sacrificed for the nation even in hard times but now because of that mistake of missing a penalty we have totally forgotten of his contribution to the Zambian football fraternity.Lets reflect and see where he went wrong and help him to get back in form.Lets change our attitude of branding names when one makes a mistake for God’s Sake.
Good luck Mbesuma, you will soon find grip of your career again – just change your approach to life all together otherwise you are a talented young man.
I don’t think Mbesuma has been dropped because he missed one penalty, No! The truth of the matter is that he has consistently under performed and what the coach has done is just the right thing. We can’t turn the National teams into a soccer academy, let Mbesuma go and make amends and then when it seems fitting for him to come and show case his talent at National level, then he I am sure whoever the coach will be will be happy to recall for National duties. For now, let those who can deliver be part of the team. I rest my case!!
If Mbesuma is indiscipline let him be punished otherwise he will spreed the indiscipline to ther palyers.whether he is a good player or not the thing is he luck discipline and let him change, period. Not even God entertaine indiscipline!!!!!
Talent is God given. It can never be withdrawn. Collins must work on his game and get back.
In the mean time, how can we as a nation not have football training facilities and a good stadium when people are stealing K10billion out of govt accounts?
Sad to read what Zambians are saying about Mbesuma. It seems they are happy to see him in the streets. Advise Mbesuma on the way forward especially if he hungs up his boots. My advise to him, is that he should look for atleast a small club in South Africa where he would play more often to regain his fitness. Mbesuma is not completely finished he can still do it. Believe in yourself Mbesuma dont get frustrated with the Luanshya boys. They are jelous of your success.
#55- Yes, “Talents are God-given”- but human participation or effort also play am important role in actualising these God-Given gifts/talents – there’re like a fragile vessile given to you but if not handled with care cam be broken (although not necessarily withdrawn). All mbesuma has to do is pick up the pieces, he has messed up, he has to clean his mess. God gave him the talent and did not withdraw it but he broke it, he did not apply himself, not responsible enough. Gluttony is a sin boy.
Sorry my #57 comment is in respoinse to comment #56 and not #55 as indicated
Hold on there’s a confussion here, imwe ba Lusaka Times where’s my comment in response to comment #56??? Icibeleshi!!!
our footballers need seriuous councelling. Look at elijah litana. Next its besuma. That is way they say a belising can sometimes be a curse.
We Luanshya boys boys aint jealous of Mbesuma, ask him!!! In Luanshya we don’t clap hands when you do stupid things, you’ll fairly and necessarily be faced with truth, honesty, courage, justice etc. We aren’t “sympathizers”, real problems have to be dealt with, if you’re stupid we simply tell you that “you are stupid, we’re sorry to say so but you are stupid”- there’s no time for angelising demons- no way!
Too bad for Mbesuma. I stil have hope Mbesuma will rise from the ashes. What he needs is encouragement. Lets not pray to see Mbesuma suffer or end his career just like that. The other thing we need in this country is managers to help build these youngsters because when they start holding dollars, they become something else.
Mbesuma will come back to life. At least, thats my humble prayer.
Imwe ba Lusaka times, where’re my other comments- i’m just telling the people the truth- reset (or re-sreem) your computors!!! the word “stu pid” when used in context aint a bad concept!!!
How old is Mbesuma?
ok but i watched the game. the guy is finished. He needs to stay behind and reflect on his career.
Sorry ChiChi boy, the age for the “Phonix” (a bird which rose from the ashes after been burnt) is long gone- Its just a legend.
For the entire period he was at pompey, he played for less than 45 mins as a sub in four or so games before he was loaned to a team in portugal and later turkey. he failed lamentably in all these leagues. ala mambala alipwa over.
#56- I’m Luanshyan and I’m not jealous of Mbesuma, ask him and he’ll tell you!!! Our pedagogy is different or rather let me say unique- we don’t clap hands when someone does “stu pid” stuff- we face him with the truth- in Luanshya we learn in a hard way- we aint “sympathizers”- virtues like justice, honety, truth etc are concretly put into practice when you misbehave.
TO ALL MBESUMA ‘SYMPATHIZERS’ -Plz just find a job (bum cleaning, bus cleaning etc) for him- muchibansa tatulemufwaya iyo!!! Alipwa!!! give chance to others who are serious with life and what they’re supposed to do!!!
Although we’re commenting in English, I know Mbesuma won’t be bothered- ta chaishiba icisungu!!! So even if you sympathise with him, he doesn’t care.
Okay guys- I think I have had enough- check you later. Ciao!!!
So even “ubwanga” can expire???- Mbesuma go and see ba Witch Doctor. Or ukambifye ifi ma drugs fya bena Maradonna- ukakalipa boyi!!!! – Do something boyi, it seems your natural talents are on the knife edge. In this post-modern world, just take drugs than a ka bulushi, ask abena Maradonna for advice.
Collins
Pick up the fallen pieces, assemble them and go forward. You have the skills. Put discipline first before your career and see the results
You will succeed. Imagine the three goals against Congo. Not a joke! Build your confidence! Renard has been very good to you. Take that ADVICE.
Its a tough call that Renard has made but a right one in my opinion. Lets face it the guy missed a penalty and his contract is being terminated come month end June. Imagine what that could have done to him psychologically. I hope he will be given another chance in the near future when all this come to pass.
Why isnt that only Luanshya boys have a negative response on comment 56. Finshi amicita nangu ukumipoka? Nibakazi?
Chibuku wamona nomba i have no place. Roan United what about you. Are you going to recieve me? Here i come to you please accept me iam not completely finished. Chibuku ukutali utugiligili ichibusa chapwa bane
I have always thought for someone to qualify to play in the National team, one should have atleast a full grade 12 school certificate. That way if a player can no longer play soccer for one reason or the other they can think about furthering their education.
Ala Mbesuma bu puba and luck of education stop blaming anyone ,guys mbesuma couldnt even speak english in SA,an average Zambian can break the english but still be able to communicate, but mbesuma couldnt even break it.Ala Chansoni ba mbesuma,Hero to Zero…Go on diet start Running and cut down on tha weight, iye kwati nibwezani ukwina….
One of the easiest things in life is to criticise and find faults in others. For example, #77 is very critical of Mbesuma’s ability to communicate in English yet #77 himself doesn’t seem to know the difference between ‘luck’ and ‘lack’ because he writes ‘luck of education’ instead of ‘lack’ and by the way you don’t have to be good at any language to become a top player. Star players from South America for instance, play in the premiership here in England but hardly speak any fluent English. Please give Mbesuma a break, he is only human and prone to err like all of us. Who knows, it won’t be long before the same harsh critics call for the coach’s sacking if things start going wrong.
#78 nsn. The bottom line is performance. Collins has been dismissed by 4 teams in three years. Whether one knows the language or not it it a terrible statistic. Yes Mbesuma erred but the fact of the matter he is not producing period!!
