Solwezi Woman slices daughter’s hand over food

Share

Police in Solwezi have arrested a twenty-eight year old woman of Island compound for allegedly slicing her seven year old daughter’s palm for alleged over eating.

Northwestern Province Police Chief, Fabian Katiba confirmed the incident to ZANIS in an interview in Solwezi today that Veronica Mweetwa was arrested yesterday for allegedly assaulting her daughter Martha Mweetwa aged seven after accusing her of eating all the food she had prepared without leaving some for her siblings.

Mr Katiba said the incident happened around 10 hours yesterday in the same compound adding that the girl sustained two deep cuts on her right palm.

“This woman is alleged to have used a knife to slice the girl in the palm of the right hand and the girl sustained two deep cut,” he said.

Mr Katiba said the woman has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and she will appear in court tomorrow.
He said the victim Martha stopped grade one due to lack of support as the woman is a victim of divorce with five children and the husband is said to have run away to Angola.

Mr Katiba has therefore advised parents and guardians to protect and discipline their children in a right way and not to resort to assaulting them.

He warned that the law will take its course on parents or guardians who assault their children.

  1. Godamn! Over graze ka….awe shuwa insala pa zed guys, naipenya abantu! LT, How does one become a “victim of divorce” ? *scratching my head*

  2. 28 years with five kids!!!!!!!!!!! results of poverty i guess. So sad for the young girl though she mighty have been too hungry to consider others. Isala ibii

  3. Iyee tata mwebantu i calo capwa This lady must be examined she is not normal upstairs. Pabwali fye or what ever food was there the child had to undergo such cruelty? I sympathize with the little innocent soul.

  4. I have really most of the stories related to harm as well as murder are mostly coming from the same compund Island Compound i guess there is too much hunger. Why is there hunger there, because the government does not want to create jobs for ordinary Zambians like those. See Kavindele was rejected an opportunity to open Vodacom. So that reduces imployment percentage, radio Phonenix want to to send there frequency to area such as these to diseminate information about what happening in the country. Thats provides jobs for some who would be employed to work as Agents etc. The governmenmt denies giving opportunity to Zambians by blocking opportunities for employment.

  5. Poverty is so bad. People cant even think properly.

That run away father needs to help support. In teh UK, absentee fathers are oblidged by law to support their children. We need similar enforcements in Zambia. You cant just walk out on 5 kids and expect the mother alone to provide for them. Look now, the woman has gone crazy.

  6. Little MArtha was wrong by being greedy…she should have shared with the other kids.BUT also the mother was wrong as well, she should have just whipped the kid,not slicing her hand.
Anyway if I were the Judge in this case,I will let the mother go and apologise to Marthas and just find some basic skills for her(tailoring,cooking,chicken-rearing).THIS WAS ALL POVERTY AT WORK.

  7. I can’t believe you people think ka little Martha was in the wrong here. She is a child for crying out loud. She had to drop out of first grade (grade 1). Who the hell drops out of grade 1? This responsibilty falls on the parent(s) full stop. Most kids will have greedy-like tendercies but ka Martha must be getting it fom her mama. She could’ve just whipped her or something like that. This kniving the child business is too serious. The mother needs her whole head examined befroe she kills any or all of her kids.

  8. To sum it up – Little Martha’s father is the culprit. He walked out on his family and went to Angola where he is probably married again. Martha’s mother is frustrated and left to fend for all these children without income. Who can blame her for falling off the edge!

Men take responsibility, dont have children all over the place like dogs.

  9. This punishment is too cruel for a 7yr old child no matter what she did. What kind of parents are these that willfully cause grievious bodily harm to their own children? She must have had a short circuit in her cranium.

  10. Another child suffers all in the name of food. Kanshi ninsala yamusango shani iyi? Martha is lucky in that she didn’t lose her life unlike other children we have read about in the Zambian media. Our country is in a sorry state.

  11. No child deserves such cruel punishment. The mother is clearly in the wrong and should face the wrath of the law in full. It’s like she’s taking out her frustrations on Martha. Hell, if she can’t handle 5 kids, then maybe she needs to consider giving them up for adoption. I’ll take Martha if anything!
    # 14, you sound so hope-less. Cheer up man, not everything is sad in Zambia. There’s just too much going on with our current government that the majority of the people do not agree with. So, anything good gets buried in this daily political whirl wind. This too shall pass.
    # 12, displaying a little female chauvinsm are we? The mother has custody of the kids so, she should be responsible and even when it comes to discplining them inspite of the father not being around. The woman is…

  12. #16 – No female chauvinism here.

Just the plain truth. Alot of Zambian men are dead beat dads and the law lets them be. some of them are even on this site! Since the law in our land is rotten anyway, its up to the individual man to act like a human being and take care of his children. Thats why there are rampant Marthas in Zambia, abused, grade 1 drop out and chances are she will also get pregnant at 14 and the cycle will start all over.

  13. What does this indicate about poverty and governance? Not able to give the family basics and live like animals??? says a lot about what we have achieved. Child abuse it is, but over food – is there any consciouness amoung the people that lead us? honest should be there regardless of party allegiance in this age. Africa the origin of man, how do you regress so much due to selfishness and greed which has not been part of your original characteristic?? Blame the woman but the underlying problem is a systematic failure in development going now over 2 to 3 decades.
Please, please – is there anybody who cares for the so called common Zambian?

  14. It is POVERTY this woman has no enough money to buy food like any single mothers in Zambia, Zimbabwe and many parts of Africa.

  15. You people listem please! We all agree that possibly, poverty is the underlying issue here. Of course poverty brings on its own evils…RAPE, MURDER, THEFT, GREED, CORRUPTION, and the list goes on. This is a child imwe bantu please. # 17, I hear you mama, trust me I do. But, there’s no single solitary excuse for this woman’s behaviour towards her kid, period! Think about it this way, would you do the same to your own child for that matter? I honestly hope your answer is NOT yes! Have some heart, please. # 18 – maybe it’s because nobody really cares after all.Little Martha deserve better and not this insane woman who just happens to be her mother. I’d give her a good zrap myself, and grab the same knife and put it to her throat (not cut her) and watch her piss herself. Crazy byatch!

  16. This is the clear Sound of Poverty.
    # 12let us not blame the father who is not around to witness the SLICING of his daughter’s hand. we should understand that, “when you ask for food from a hungry man, be sure to get when he says get, lest he pounces on it also.” This woman should be blamed at all cost. I am a woman, i know the strength a woman should posses. For her to accept marriage in the first place, she was ready to take care of a family. Those children are still young to be subjected to eating like prisoners in their own mother’s house. Women, let us take care of our families-With or Without a MAN.

  17. Sorry lady. I know it was not intentional but you were overtaken by emotions especially that the father of the children you are keeping has run away leaving you to fend for the 5 children. It is not easy indeed in this MMD-thieves government where there are no jobs. However take all your problems and difficulties to the Lord in prayer. If I were a judge I would give this lady some lenience in consideration that she has no job and keeping 5 children alone. I would recommend that she goes for coselling and that be helped with any income activity. But knowing the useless judiciary of Zambia, she will be jailled 10 years. May the Lord God bless.

  18. #17 you are right. There is so much poverty in Zambia especially the shanti compounds and villages that there are many Marthas who are abused every day. True, she will get pregnant by age 12 thus reproducing the circle of poverty. In the shantis, its not uncommon for girls under 14 to ask for K1,000 from order men. And the mind set of men of the compounds is such as to accommodate such requests in exchange for something. And sex is the surest. H.E,R.B is not to blame though as Jesus Said,”The poor ye shall always have.”

  19. # 6 u are so ugly my freind hw i wish u cuold remove tht pic of yours pliz ,u look like a sleeping warthog in the bush

  20. :-?yes indeed it is true.zedian men should learn from developed countries.men are supposed to pay child care otherwise they are in trouble with the law.l have seen some zedian men who are always travelling around the globe looking for greener pastures leaving their wives in charge of kids.meanwhile not even one cent is given to the wife because she works.shame on you.

  21. chachine says :d/The so called fathers are the ones who demand for nice cars ,saying ukashitile BMW otherwise ngakutipa LOL.where were you when the mother was buying S26.looking for greener pastures l guess .

  22. this woman was just taking out her problems wit her husband or lover on the poor gal coz how can a gal chaw everything? how litu was it..?
