PRESIDENT Banda says Kateshi coffee plantation in Kasama will soon resume operations following Government’s consideration to re-open the scheme.
Mr Banda has since directed Minister of Finance and National Planning Situmbeko Musokotwane to make available funds for resumption of operations at the coffee plantation.
“I want to inform you that Kateshi coffee plantation will be re-opened soon.
Immediately I saw the state of the coffee plantation, I phoned the Minister of Finance to come and see the plantation and this morning he has arrived. So I am assuring you that operations will resume very soon,” Mr Banda said.
The President was speaking in Kasama yesterday at Musenga Basic School at a public rally to drum up support for the MMD candidate Burton Mugala in the Kasama central by-election set for Thursday.
Mr Banda said the resumption of operations at Kateshi coffee plantation will create jobs for the people in Kasama.
The President said Government is concerned about the closure of the coffee plantation, which provided the people of Kasama with employment.
Mr Banda said Government will also find an investor for the coffee plantation.
And Mr Banda said Government has released K400 million through the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for the up-grading of housing units in Kasama’s Musenga area, K1.1 billion for improved water reticulation system and K120 million for the construction of a classroom block at Musenga Basic School.
He said the Ministry of Education has also released K4 million for the purchase of 32 desks and learning materials for the basic school.
“All these projects are being done because of government’s commitment to improve the living standards of people in Kasama district,” Mr Banda said.
The President appealed to the people of Kasama central to vote for the MMD’s candidate for continued development in the area.
Mr Banda said the MMD government is in a hurry to deliver to the people of Zambia and that there is need for the people of Zambia to support the ruling MMD.
“Let us reject people who are telling lies that Government is not doing anything because you have seen what development projects we are doing as government for the benefit of the Zambian people,” Mr Banda said.
The President said he does not doubt that Mr Mugala will deliver to the people of Kasama once elected as Kasama Central member of Parliament.
He said the PF candidate had no capacity to deliver to the people of Kasama.
And Mr Mugala said once elected as MP, he will deal with the problems of water and security in Musenga area.
He appealed for support from the people of Musenga to develop Kasama.
“I have been with you the people of Musenga and you know what we have done together as a community. Do not listen to what the opposition are saying against me because you know me very well,” Mr Mugala said.
After the rally, the President proceeded to the school grounds where he planted a tree to support the learning institution’s tree planting project.
Mr Banda said he was happy to have planted a tree at the school and hoped that more people will support the project.
“I want this project to grow as you are aware we announced the tree-planting programme. We asked (former President) Dr Kaunda to support the project as we deal with the climate change issues,” Mr Banda said.

Lies lies lies for breakfast, lunch and supper. Why are these jobs not there now?
Lies and illusions
I am tired of listening to these nonsensical utterances by this fool RB. Too much fooling people around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don’t vote MMD, ulindoshi. If lie and insult MMD you are unpatriotic PF kaponya. Remember now onwards all patriots going blue. These opposition thugs will only feed you insults, hatred, hopelessness, failure, hallucinations, jealous, unpatriotism and deny you opportunities.
Why does it have to take an election for people to announce these things? Ba LT how about going into your archieves and give us all the promises which were made by these people in the last presidential elections and see if they have done even 1/8 of the promises they made?
Zambians have been taken for mugs for a very long time. May be they are! I mean who would buy into this nonsense of jobs coming to Kasama now?
Taking advantage of people yet again. Where are the bridges, jobs, electricity, good roads people were promised in the last election?
#4 Patriot. Of all the things you have blabbed about, give me just one example of an opportunity MMD has given the people of Zambia, please. I am waiting!
4.
Patriot : You are the one who is unpatriotic because you think MMD owns Zambia and can do what ever they want including releasing known plunderers.
This is some analysis of the 2011 elections
Lusaka Province = PF (UPND/PF Pact) ,Copperbelt Province = PF (UPND/PF Pact), Southern Province = UNPD (UPND/PF Pact) ,Western Province = UPND (UPND/PF Pact), Northern Province = PF (UPND/PF Pact) ,Eastern Province = MMD, Luapula Province = Swing State PF (UPND/PF Pact) ? Central Province = Swing State MMD? North Western Province = Swing State UPND (UPND/PF Pact)? A Recommendation to the UPND/PF Pact for them to solidify their base in their strongholds and to work hard in the Swing states, they need to employ registration Managers in the swing states to aggressively Register new voters while HH and Sata concentrate on Campaining
Analyzing the President’s speech in Kasama and other statements that have been made concerning MMD MP’s etc having easier access to the Govt/ Developmental funds, it should be made very clear concerning which clause in the constitution allows that and if there is a clause then MMD MP’s should be held to a very high standard than their counterpart MP’s from the opposition. The MMD MP’s etc need to be made accountable for those funds against the development they have brought to the nation in the last 18 years
Why did the MMD wait until a by election to talk of revamping Kateshi Coffee plantation. I hope RB will be up to his word whether they sccop the seat or not. Its bad politics to talk of revamping projects when in the past GRZ was aware of what was going on. We have similar problems such as NCZ, Maamba coalaries, Kawambwa Tea Company. Mansa batteries, Zambia – China Mulungushi Texitiles just to mention a few. How did PF settle for GBM, it appears the MMD leadership have found easy meat to feast on. Some point they are raising make a bit od sense.
Concerning the President giving a directive to the Finance Minister to make fundas available for the reopening of the Cofee Plantation ,was that part of the budget or does it mean the budget is just on paper but the utilization of the funds is another issue., or is that part of the contigencies if so then why isn’t the contigency money being directed to critical needs such as the health sector because according to the 2010 budget there was a cut on the money being allocated to the health sector. Is it now for the President to issue directives on how the tax payers money is spent, do taxpayers have a say? Can someonekindly clarify.
A by – election will bring short term development in your area. Kill your area MP and you will prove this.
Good news but don’t vote for MMD.
For starters there was nothing mentioned in the budget & these yokels surely knowthat coffee does not grow likemaize, coffee takes years. But there are fontini mu Govt eish………………its a huge circus
This Satan! what a shame, lair of liars
chew the money but please do not vote for MMD
Jobs will come only when elections are around the corner……..funny! Cos of the overseas trips, the whole country has run outta fuel
Immediately I saw the state of the coffee plantation, I phoned the Minister of Finance to come and see the plantation and this morning he has arrived. So I am assuring you that operations will resume very soon,” Mr Banda said.
Is this the way we operate govt?

Good point. But i can assure you LT and all the media we have in Zambia is so crap that they never analyse issue or follow up the promises and utterances politicians made in the past.
I have always wondered what schools our journalist come from. They live as though there was no yesterday. These Zambian media and their journalist are a crap lot. They let Zambians down. They cant even hold politicians to account. They are supposed to use their achives and ask questions – like Mr president you in Month M and Year Y you said XYZ, would you update us on that? Zed are cheap and lazy, they dont think. Including the Post. to them, journalising is about sensation, scandals or speeches. Crap, crap, crap, crap.
Abena R B ababufi bwakunya.
#18…well said. That statement by RB (alias Shrek) says it all. This is a farmyard government.
I’m sure most of you know the story of Pinocchio….the more lies he told the longer his nose grew. Well, with our leaders, the more lies they tell, the fatter they get (and the thinner we get!).
