Bottom Road works stalled

Share

The grader operators working on the Controversial Bottom Road in Sinazongwe district in Southern Province has abandoned the work.

Sinazongwe District Council Director of Works, Mathews Mashapi, confirmed the development to ZANIS today.

Mr Mashapi said that lack of fuel to continue grading the dilapidated road has caused the operators from the Rural Roads Units (RRU) to abandon the work.

Mr Mashapi also said the workers have not been paid their allowances for about three months because of the lack of funding from the Livingstone Provincial Administration.

He disclosed that the operators have only graded a stretch of 37km for the past fours that the grading equipment has been in the district.

The Director of Works said the RRU has a programme of working on 200 kms of roads in the district.

He said the Bottom Road from Siabaswi to Sianpondo and Kafwambila was first priority to be worked on, adding that with the onset of the rains, it would be difficult for RRU to complete if the work stoppage continues.

Mr Mashapi said the operators would only resume work once fuel was purchased.

The Bottom Road from Siabaswi, through Kafwambila and Sianpondo has not been graded for more than a decade and the last grader that went there was hit by a landmine planted during the liberation war in Zimbabwe.

  1. How do you expect them to continue work without fuel?? Do you want them to use water?? You keep pipo working without paying them, nothing is free you have to pay them their salaries. The problem with our govt is that they want everything to be donated from China and other countries. Its seems they cannot do anything on their own. I wonder why they went to school if they cannot manage anything.

  2. Bottom Road?? first time to hear about this road…

Whatever,. how do you expect people to work without pay?????????

  3. We have heard this same Govt. talk of commitment to developing the tourism sector, but what are we seeing now, no commitment.. This is a very important route that could take development, by opening up that certainly wonderful part of the country to would be developers.
I blame the area MP, he must take advantage of this opportunity and ensure his area is linked to the rest of the country.
This area is extremely underdeveloped. when you are there, you feel as though you are not in country that has a Govt and will soon be celebrating 45 years of independence. no clinic, no schools, no Police, no roads there is just nothing in Siampondo and the MP is just enjoying
Muvi TV needs to go there and expose the scandals of this Govt.on how people this time of the year survive on wild roots.
