Mr. Lungu said government has among other things procured rubber bullets for use by police officers during such situations to avoid any loss of life.
He reiterated his statement that government strongly condemns the use of live bullets in putting down riotous situations.
Mr. Lungu said it was irrational for some security officers to use live bullets to curb violence especially if the rioters are not armed.
He said police and other security officers are being sensitized to be able to use common sense when dealing with such issues.
He however urged the members of the public to always cooperate with security wings and desist from engaging into riotous activities.
Mr. Lungu also noted that there was need to sensitize the people at large against violent activities.
The minister stressed that the police exist in order to protect human life and property hence the need to co-exist.
The police have also been equipped with bullet proof vests to guard them against being killed when they exchange fire with criminals.
ZANIS
Preparation for rigging. Riot gear or not mwanya ba koswe.
well done Mkhonda at at least you are not scared of your boss to openly speak against your trigger happy cops.Oh I forgot you are not from MMD.
He He he He ….#1 dont worry the same Police wil turn against the MMD when they lose and the same RIOT gear will be used to persue them.
Atase. ask them to accept PVT not to provoke violence
Lol!! Weren’t you saying Egypt cant happen here??? Ya brace yourselves and forget trying to rig!
Owe to Zambians, prepare for MMD planned hard times for you. I smell a fresh rotten rat
When are the famous metal jackets arriving in the country, its been over a year when the order was placed with the Chinese?
@ #1 4 and 5
I thought ypu people might start saying that would you rather they did openly let you know???
Its the police service and its equipment they need
But for people like you i would suggest they even start building Fema Camps.
You can see police in there gear and think of starting trouble
Acquiring such kind of equipment is a sheer waste of resources. Is the bastard saying Mubarak and Ben ALI of Egypt and Tunisia respctively did not equip their Anti- riot police for them to relinguish their positions unwillingly. Hey think properly Mr UNIP otheryz u will soon find yourselves out of government. Power is in the hands of voters as they will decide who to lead them but you THIEVES.
Mr. Lungu said it was irrational for some security officers to use live bullets to curb violence especially if the rioters are not armed. He said police and other security officers are being sensitized to be able to use common sense when dealing with such issues.
so lack of common sence and rubber bullets prompted cops to use live bullets iwe kolwe? what an excuse. We are not scared to die for change. Viva opposition
You better warn them now because in future poeple maybe forced to target cops’ kids to balance up.
how can common sence be sensitised to a human being when its never tought? You cops have you head the insult from your political boss. Bwafya bweka bweka.
#7 Uchipo, can you rephrase what you are saying?? You are not making any sense. Aren’t you in England?? Anyways.
I hope they also provide some serious training in how to use this equipment!
Is govt worried about the happenings in the arab world?
I see the copper in riot gear has ONE CAN of tear gas and a baseball cap and an Assault Rifle – AK47.
Funny but very dangerous!
If rioters are armed, policemen will shoot to kill period. I want to urge my fellow youths in PF dont misbhave, they will sent u to hell b4 your time.
Like 1991 all over again, riot gear, losing elections. Viva PF!
Any serious police should have these items at any time and their procurement should not news at all. Unless you plan to do something that you know people wont accept-like rig elections 4 example- and therefore warn them that you are ready for the expected chaos.
What? Is that an achievement for government to announce it? Where have they been all along to only buy these now? S i l l y and sleepy government.
Honorable minister, why not buy fighter jets, it will b bad this year u no mos!:((:((:((:((
ADAPT AND BUY TASERS NOW
It is important for the law enforcers “to take action that will unequivocally reinforce the upholding of fundamental rights and national security. Government should immediately invest in electrical security apparatus available for sale to Governments in the USA and China. Going forward Police must resort to use of electric weapons such as “TASERS” to control unruly anarchists. All in all ?police should have greater discretion when using tasers in volatile situations but take charge.Taser anarchists down, they will get paralysed on the ground then round them for Chimbokaila.
No rigging otherwise there will be kerfuffle this year.Viva PVT Viva Sata.
The teargas canisters used in the Mazabuka riot expired in 1995… The expired canisters are very toxic indeed….
We need to test these Tasers on Senior fimom fimo.
Long overdue. bachinchila elyo kawa….after you have killed people by the using your highly unproffessional Police Force. anyhow better late than never. coz be assured of more riots if you rigg the elections.
President Banda goes to Eastern province again; to open a shop: What a Joke of a president we have.
PRESIDENT RUPIAH BANDA
President Rupiah Banda will on Saturday 9th April, 2011 travel to Chipata, Eastern province.
President Banda has been frequenting Eastern province almost on a monthly basis.
Of late president Banda has reduced on international trips due to huge public condemnation that he has been wasting money on foreign trips.
Tomorrow, president Banda will be at St Annes Catholic Parish to attend a consecration mass for Benjamin Phiri who will be ordained Auxiliary Bishop for Chipata Diocese.
Pope Benedict XVI in January appointed Reverend Phiri new Auxiliary Bishop for the diocese which covers the entire Eastern Province.
On Sunday president Banda will…
They are just pre-occuping them selves to rig this years elections, hence they want to threaten and silence people who will be challanging them. time will tell, RB tactics at work.
officially open a Spar shop at Great East Shopping Mall.
Commenting ahead of his plan to open Spar shop in Chipata, president Banda said: “This is the eighth Spar outlet to open in Zambia. I am advised that Spar Chipata has created 100 new jobs for the people of Chipata and additionally will enhance the shopping experience of thousands of people in the district.”
“I am extremely pleased to see companies such as Spar taking advantage of the favourable economic conditions that have been created as a result of the policies of my Government. We have not stopped at providing favourable policies; we have in place the Private Sector Development Programme (PSD) which is making it easier for people to go into business without cumbersome and unwarranted bureaucracy.”
On Sunday afternoon,…
It’s like using a condom during a s’e’x’u’a’l encounter, the reasons are two, one, avoid pregnancy and two, avoid contracting a disease. The same goes for buying anti riot equipment for an armed wing: 1) quell anticipated riotous events and 2) protect your armed personnel from injury resultant from dealing with a riotous lot. Therefore, it goes without saying that the government knows this year’s polls will be characterised by violence (even Bob Mugabe knows this) and also that they know they were dead wrong in shooting innocent Barotse demostrators but do not have the guts to apologise. This is the childish nature of the outfit called the Zambian government.
First policeman looks untidy, presentation is paramount brother !!!! Anyway it shows how you are not taken care of.
ehe #29 and he is even taking the Chinese Ambassador pa campaign…
Dont fprget the handcuffs Minister.
MMD spends so easily on their own benefits. Why couldn’t that money go to hospitals, roads or schools.
Riot gear or no riot gear, it is over for you MMD
FINE, BUT THIS EQUIPMENT WILL BE OF NO CONSEQUENCE IF ONE WILLY ‘STATELESS’ BANDA IS NOT TUTORED ON HOW NOT TO ABUSE YOUTHFUL PARTY CADRES TO PROVOKE THE OPPOSITION……AZAWAIZI KAYA MWANDINI!!!!
Alot of pipo on this blog seem to be very convinced that MMD is losing these elections and if they win they would have rigged hmm! Wake up pipo MMD is going through again!!!!!! Lets just hustle and work together as young pipo these politician will never do jack for us!!!! Economic emancipation is all we need the conditions are favorable, we are educated enough, we can mobilize finance and invest in our and provide employment for ourselves and other! The so called educated are to blame for our poverty, what tangible investments have the so called educated made in our economy apart from small shops! Riot and you will end up dying for nothing!!
I have never heard that Mandela, Thabo Mbeki or Jacob Zuma Has/had at any given time spent precious tax payers money and time to go and open a Chicken licken shop in Pretoria, Skhukuza or Mdansane.
What an I D I O T we have for a president. I bet When KK insulted people as being stupid *****s he had his biggest references to I D O T S like him (RB)
#22, For the first time, I think you have sunk very low for suggesting procurement and use of Tasers on Zambian people. Please read the following: “The use of Tasers has become controversial following instances of Taser use that have resulted in serious injury and death, and while they are far less lethal than many other weapons, the U.N. are concerned that use of Tasers may amount to torture, and Amnesty International has reported cases where they believe that their use amounted to “cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment which is absolutely prohibited under international law”. Source: ,http: // en . wikipedia.org /wiki / Taser> Accessed: 8 April 2011.
Tasers as suggested by #22, please read: Amnesty International Accessed: 8 April 2011.
it high time we got such arrangements, ba PF balintumpa sana

# 37,
I make no apologietics on use of electric measures to dealing with nihilists, vandals, miscreants in the habit of arson and grave consequantial criminal acts. Stay with limited knowledge driven by parroting and ignorance. Governments have mandate to preserve the country. Its better to lose 2 or 3 heart attack nihilists and preserve a nation of millions. Go through many county and states in the US you will find them with stocks of these electric anti riot tools such as Pepper sprays, Stun Guns, Tasers etc not only as self-Defense Choice tools but cramping nihilists. I actually recommend advanced TASER M18 M18L, TASER M26, M26C TASER Brand, C2 TASER model the US clears and sale to Governments for law enforcement.
# 37,
Kindly limite parroting from abstracts of those who will even feed you the drivel that homosexuality is a right and Sata should baptize it in Zambian national constitution.
Governments have mandate to preserve their countries otherwise the fall to nihilists. Its better to lose 2 or 3 heart attack nihilists and preserve a nation of millions. Go through many county and states in the US you will find them with stocks of these electric anti riot tools such as Pepper sprays, Stun Guns, Tasers etc not only as self-Defense Choice tools.
“He said police ….officers are being sensitized to be able to use common sense when dealing with such issues.” Twafwa, nomba babapela common sense and more riot gear which they did not have all along!
The police force needs reformation not new “weapons”. For a start stop them moving around with guns as if we are in a war situation. We don’t even have police “on beats” anymore and I even wonder if the CID exists as it should. Prevention is always better than being reactive and shooting people all over the place.
# 36 you have made my day Ha.Ha.ha……………… Iam going
When there are riots in any country its a sign of leadership crisis .
Good move. Since the PF kaponyas are against live bullets, we answered their prayers and got them rubber bullets. Trouble makers, please come and que up for some rubber bullets. One each. But it will come to you at the speed of a bullet, so it will still hurt. You wont die like with a live bullet, but chikalakalipa. Try us
Good evening
Desperation or precaution? The escalation of violence in Libya and Ivory Coast shows that guns and bombs do not necessarily make things better. Civilians are the hardest hit in every case.
These cops in the photo look so hungry, weak and ill equiped.
Thank you for trying to infuse fear in the masses. Uuuuuhhhhh, we are so scared. Scare tactics will not work. Who is preparing for riots? William Banda? Rupiah Banda? Well, Mubarak, Ben Ali, Ghadafi (Does anyone have the right spelling for this lunatic?) all had equipped police and where are they today? Soon those guns and riot equipment MMD is purchasing will be under the control of MCS, as Commander In Chief. Oooops. Ba MMD/UNIP are having nightmares over this former colonial police constable, Ha ha ha ha ha.
INO YR NI DONCHI KUBEBA…..PF IS WINNING AND MMD WILL RIOT…..THEY AR PREPARING FOR WALL……I FORESEE ANOTHER BAGBO.
INO YR NI DONCHI KUBEBA…..PF IS WINNING AND MMD WILL RIOT…..THEY AR PREPARING FOR WAR……I FORESEE ANOTHER BAGBO.

WoW, they need to procure more books and other school supplies.
Have you bought the riot gear for the public as well? What a selfish government this is. We are going to buy guns too to protect ourselves from the un experienced government police officers. This year is the year of change. The wind that is blowing in Africa and Arab worlds will not leave any stone un turned. MMD and Mwaanga kuya bebele.
Pure nosense we need libraries in districts nd u er spending money on useles things
