VICE-PRESIDENT George Kunda says Government has released K31 billion to water utility companies on the Copperbelt to improve service delivery of water and sanitation in Ndola, Kitwe, Chingola and Chililabombwe.
Mr Kunda said Kafubu Water and Sewerage Company (KWSC) in Ndola received K11 billion for Kabushi and Masala townships, Nkana Water and Sewerage Company in Kitwe received K14 billion and Mulonga Water and Sewerage Company received K7 billion for improved water and sanitation services in Chingola and Chililabombwe.
“The MMD government will remain committed to improving service delivery to our people and we have demonstrated our commitment through funding to water utility companies here on the Copperbelt,” Mr Kunda said.
The Vice-President was speaking at a public rally at Kaloko grounds in Ndola’s Kabushi township on April 20.
Mr Kunda said the problem of poor water supply and sanitation in many townships on the Copperbelt will be addressed, following the release of the funds to the water utility companies.
He also said Government will soon commence working on township roads on the Copperbelt. Mr Kunda said apart from the JICA-funded road projects being undertaken in Ndola and Kitwe, Government will also fund the tarring of township roads in the province.
The Vice-President said Patriotic Front (PF)-controlled councils have failed the people on the Copperbelt.
“The members of Parliament and councillors you elected have failed to represent you and this is the reason you must vote for MMD candidates this time around,” Mr Kunda said.
The Vice-President said in the health sector, Government has spent K18 billion on the construction of markets in Ndola and another K800 million for the construction of a theatre at Chifubu clinic.

Sorry MMD, too little too late, people have already made up their minds… Kuya bebele
Did the release of the 31 million had to wait until election time? And why does the president have to be the one to announce the election date instead of the ECZ? I think our constitution needs to be visited on this matter. Is it only me or has anybody else noticed that in the last few days a lot of money has been released by the government all over a sudden? The opposition need to intensify their campaigns because RB is already at his campaigning peak. Just look at the trips and donations all over the country. Opposition, wake up!!!!
Check this; RB gives houses to sitting tenants in Kitwe, K 915 million for roads in Kawambwa, money for cow diseases in Southern Province, Chines $50 000 worth of donations in Western Province, 31 billion for water on the Copperbelt, 25 billion for High School in Nchelenge. All this has taken place within a few days. The MMD is in full swing campaign using government funds and they already know the day of elections. I wish our opposition parties could bury their differences and work together to rid these thugs out of office. God help us.
This reminds of the despearate efforts by Government in the Chingola By-election in 2008 when they started mending Nchanga North Roads which they abandoned after loosing the election. Never be fooled Copperbelt people, this is only up to October 2011 and will come after five years again.
This sounds good for people of Copperbelt. But why wait until an election year to carry out such an important activity?
47 years of independence, 27 years of KK, 20 Years of MMD still same story. 47 years on we still talk of the same thing, no clean running water, poor sanitation, no proper roads, I wonder what will be talking about in another 47 years time. Shame on these politicians it’s about time the put in 1000% effort to move our country forward. God bless Zambia.
Copperbeilt people have made there dicisions long time ago, whether you give them 900million each they will not vote for mmd. As for that kunda is wasting time. Too bad mmd has already lost in western province, we shall see their rural votes; cbu -sata, luapula-sata, wetern-sata, lusaka-sata, northern-sata, southern-hh, north-western Milupi, central-mmd, eastern-mmd. this is how your votes will be: sata will win by 60% plus, mmd by 30% plus HH 6%plus Milupi 1% plus. Mark my words.
Lets hope the money is from the budget and not doing things haphazardly. This goes to show that the government has the money for development but they do things deliberately in order to steal or enrich themselves.
Hahahahaha…..this is funny!!!!!!!
BOOT LEAKER !!!
how do you bride people with late development, this commitment was supposed to be shown way before the election campaign started !! how do you stay in power for 3 years and the only thing you is campaign non stop ?
Ubuwelewele bwafula,IT’S TIME UP PLEASE..George and you friends kuya bebele,we have caught up with your fake un christian dribbling buwelewele,no more imingalato .Mulechimona icafililwe kalwe ukumina….ABALEYA….KUYA BEBELE….MMD ZWAAAA.
The major problem is that most of this money is coming from loans and RB has so far taken too much loans from outside which monies will have to be paid back by the future generation when he is long gone. This is surely bad management and leadership..we need leaders who will generate income from our resources and then apply the incomes generated for development. RB’s management style is a time bomb for the country and risk Zambia becoming heavily indebted again. Zambians watch out…
Please ba kunda as a Copperbelt resident thank you for the development you are planning to bring, albeit a bit late. We shall always remember it and think of you as we drink clean water and travel on the beautiful roads, but too little too late.
iyi ni ndonchi kubeba, bapepele fye. they just have to work to our expectations after all we pay tax. fwe bena ndola tatwatumpa. we saw it coming along time and we knew they would blame ba opposition when it was there responsibility. shame.
Mr Sick Lion Kunda Copperbelt cant be manipulated and fooled by MMD any longer. That big number of registered voters on the copperbelt is for SATA and PF peroid. Mr Red Lips sir,go to rural areas and bribe the iliterate because copperbelt NI DONCH KUBEBA. Get their money, drink their beer,BUT in the booth ni PABWATO and SATA.
# 6 good observation. We had 27 years of UNIP and we are slowly edging towards 27 years of MMD. Are we more confortable with ONe Party rule?
Am a Chingo resido, ubuwelewele ba Kunda too late we ve already made our minds, some1 just reminded me of that Nchanga road in 2008, that very true it now takes abt 30 min reaching town when its supports to be 10min.
Let them give the money, houses but people of the copperbelt vote wisely all the time!
“The Vice-President said … Government has spent K18 billion on the construction of markets in Ndola and another K800 million for the construction of a theatre at Chifubu clinic. ” I thought the markets were funded by the European Union!!
RED LIPS WHAT ABOUT LUAPULA WATER AND SEWERAGE COMPANY. EVER SINCE THIS COMPANY WAS FORMED NOT EVEN A SINGLE NGWEE HAS BEEN PUMPED IN FOR INFRASTRACTURE DEVELOPMENT. WE ARE STILL DRINKING BROWN WATER FROM MANSA RIVER WHICH GOES WHEN ELECTRICITY GOES? IF NOTHING IS DONE EVEN WHEN YOU ADOPT AN ANGEL FOR MANSA CENTRAL AKAWA!!
R.B is tactless. This sort of thing shows his desperation! The roads, water and sewer works should be maintained on a regular basis not near election time. Even if they spend that money, after a few years of neglect it’ll be back to square one. Come on R.B! mind you having said that makes no difference who’s in power politicians WORLD WIDE are the same. We are basically voting for who we are willing to let rip the nation off.
This is NOT RUPIAH BANDA’s money, but rather governments money raised from the taxes I pay. He can go to hell and hang, but for now he is just a waste of our time.
Viva MMD people MMD has done well where i live in Roma. The roads are smooth and drianage
Are there no water problems in other parts of the country i.e. Mansa, Mongu, Kasama, Solwezi, and Chipata? Let s share the cake equally. Besides the companies mentioned above have been in existence for a long time. New water companies require more support, such as Luapula Water, and Chambeshi Water. I rest my case.
