President Rupiah Banda says his Government will continue empowering Zambians with houses despite criticism from the opposition.

Speaking during the handover ceremony of 68 Police housing units in Livingstone yesterday,President Banda said currently Government is considering building 4,500 units for all the Defence forces countrywide. He also said the government would construct new police stations as the current stations which were left by colonial masters were old.

He said the MMD Government considers homelessness as the worst social problem.

“Because I do not want anyone to be homeless that is why I am giving these houses.By the way my next destination is Kasama and I will continue…I know that some people are against this but I will continue,”he said.

Mr Banda said the policy of the Government was to develop Zambia regardless of how people voted.

President Banda has challenged his rivals from the opposition to point out which Government has done more than his regime in terms of accommodation.

Meanwhile Inspector General of Police Francis Kabonde has thanked Government for the gesture.

Mr.Kabonde said houses for the Police had not been constructed in 43 years hence the Police have experienced a lot of difficulties in terms of accommodation.

And speaking during the 6th International Association of Women Judges Africa Regional conference held at Zambezi Sun Hotel,President Banda urged the Judges and magistrates to ensure that delivery of justice is timely and untainted.

President Banda said that people look up to the court for justice and fairness in dispute resolution.

He told the delegates comprising of honorable judges and magistrates that people hold judges and magistrates in high esteem because their role in society is special, well recognized and appreciated.

He appealed to the delegates to maintain their integrity and reciprocate the trust and confidence from the people.

He said magistrates and judges can do that by demonstrating a sense of responsibility, impartiality and diligence in the execution of their duties.

  1. Only a ‘politically blind’ person cannot see the inumerable developmental projects under this working MMD government.

  2. Why Now?? Empower Every Citizen. No one would be against such an Initiative if Genuine. This clearly is campaign and buying Votes. It is not EMPOWERMENT.

Is this when you have woken up, to know that people are Homeless? Just Keep Quite and don’t misuse the word Empowerment.

Zambians in Diaspora? Have you been given the land they were waffling about? As part of the Citizen Empowerment Initiative?

These Jokers are not serious, enough with their NONSENSE.

Kindly take note that rd’s move could be political and it is but what would be wrong if it is. i will challenge you to mension a single politician, hoping to be re elected but does does things without taking it account that he needs to be re-elected. lets be seriuos. some of you dont even understand politics. every politician’s power rests with the people who elect him so there is nothing to burk about when he does things which are aimed at ellcecting him. i will assure you that everything a politician does is political.

    • hateba chik.ala hope u read this. y should you wait till an election year to start working?if u think zambians are dull, u are the only one who is. RB and his minioms KUYA BEBELE!

  3. Does it matter when its done? I think not give credit where its due even if you want to vote for someone else. Whether we vote PF,UPND or MMD we should recognise the cops in lstone have now got good accomodation….If this is vote buying as are the roads, schools, hospitals and all the other things..then go an vote for MMD when they dont build infrastructure for fear it might be seen as vote buying.

    • When it is done does matter alot. Such appeasement project which normally take place in an election year led to budget over-run as usually they are not part of a planned national infrastucture development program. This is what leads to government contracting unnecessary debt which future generations will be burdened with. If these projects are part of nationwide well thought out development programme then they will not only take place in an electio year but will be well spread out and will contribute systematically to economic growth by providing reliable employment and economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors to also take advantage of. So yes the timing does matter. The programmes should be part of a public knowledge and not announced at campaign rallies and the likes

  4. ……but does it have to be the president commissioning everything, really? Why cant it be the mayor, or the minister?

  5. no 5 and why should it not be the President commissioning? its a useless proposition. President has every right to go anywhere in zambia and to commission whatever he feels necessary even if its just 68 houses or one toilet at the market. dont be envious

    • Of course it does matter whether it is the President or the major commissioning these projects. There are serious cost implications for the President moving all over the place to commission even the smallest of infrastructure projects or programmes. So many logistics have to be mobilised when the President travel. The advance party, the closed roads the welcoming party (or the senior civil servants in a town dont work when the President is in town). So where it can be avoided that the President does not travel to commission a project and can be done by another officer it should encouraged. However in the current climate we realise that the idea is to give RB as much publicity as possible hence the comments from some bloggers that is it all politics, campaiging and ill-timed and ill-timed

  6. This is better than that nonsense of ‘putting money in your pockets’, Sounds like reverse pick-pocketing people, where on earth?

  7. MMD kuyabebele we dont want them they have done nothing for our mother zambia. Why ?today Banda or RB giving houses wh?

But boss, for sure, dont worry. mwamu dribula saaanaaa. Even tujilili, i will refuse this time. I will also tell my kaponya friends to ask sata to upgrade to whisky. Anyways boss nalanda sana. Lesa apale. You are welcome in kasama.

  9. APPAUSE!!!!! Well done bosses. Ati next move ni Kasama! Mwabaza sana bosses. Anso mwamu dribula saaanaa sata. Ya ya ya ya. Elo yena brings tujilili only and i think alachi bayila mu guys. 10. Please remove the delays in approving house drawings and giving out of building permits if they are serious of emporing people of houses. Its the delays that are the root cause of corruption at the councils and the land ministry.

  11. RB is smart and very shrewd! while Sata is busy insulting daily, ba kateka is commissioning new projects and gaining crucial points before election day…Sata will have fatal heart attack, watch this space…

  12. A president who is working while others are INSULTING.  Well done our money working for our people. Watch this space Zambia is going to be a force in Southern Africa

  13. 68 houses my foot this president has time to waste!!!!!Mwanawasa’S INITIATIVE…WAIT FOR SATA’S PROJECTS!!!VIVA PF

  14. Anyway, it is their right to have those houses since they pay tax. People of Southern province are so difficult to manipulate as they know their rights. They know that it is the responsibility of government to build those houses since they are the ones who receive tax on behalf of all zambians and not the opposition. What they want is just a government which can manage their tax money effectively and not waste it on buying mobile hospitals when Livingstone general hospital has no blankets and medicine.

  15. Whose duty is it to provide housing and other social benefits for citizens? Why should one boast for doing what is expected of them?
