New Generation Party President Humphrey Siulapwa has warned Zambians to be wary of politicians calling for change to avoid plunging the country into chaos.
Speaking during a press briefing at the party headquarters in Lusaka today, Mr. Siulapwa said Zambians are clever enough to see what type of change they want and not the change being advocated by frustrated politicians.
Mr. Siulapwa said majority of some former MMD members who have been expelled from the ruling party have now re-grouped under the Patriotic Front thinking that Zambians are not watching them.
He warned the Patriotic Front members to be careful with people such as Former Ministers, Mike Mulongoti, Ludwig Sondashi, Edith Nawakwi, George Mpombo and Mbita Chitala whom he described as disgruntled politicians who have lost direction and have since joined the Patriotic Front.
He accused Mr. Mulongoti of lacking principles and that he was a shameless opportunist who overrates himself.
Mr. Siulapwa said it was strange that Mr. Mulongoti had allegedly continued cheating the nation that he put President Banda in State House in 2008 yet he only has one vote.
He said contrary to what he termed Mr. Mulongoti’s selfish motives; Mr. Siulapwa said it was the people of Zambia that voted to have President Banda in State House.
Mr. Siulapwa wondered why it had to take a dismissal for Mr. Mulongoti to see all the evil things he was now talking about with regards to President Rupiah Banda.
He said Mr. Mulongoti’s behaviour exposed how shallow minded and selfish he is.
He warned Mr. Mulongoti and Dr. Chitala to stop making un necessary attacks on President Banda because his supporters wont sit idle but retaliate when ever the Head of State is insulted.
He said Dr. Chitala was unstable, unreliable and a traitor who has betrayed both former President Frederick Chiluba and late President Mwanawasa when he was given responsibility in the party and in Government to serve the Zambian people.
And the New Generation Party President has rubbished the opinion poll conducted by the Center for Policy Dialogue Executive Director Dr. Neo Simutanyi that Patriotic Front President Michael Sata is poised to win this year’s elections by 31 percent.
Mr. Siulapwa said it was wishful thinking that the Patriotic Front President Michael Chilufya Sata will win this year’s election.
He said the people of Zambia know very well what President Banda has done for this country and that he deserves a second term of office.
The opposition leader said those thinking that President Rupiah Banda will lose this year’s election will wake up to a rude shock after the announcement of the results.

The problem I have with bloggers here is that all they say is ‘we want change, but not Sata’. The fact is in a country like ours, Sata has managed to create and grow a formidable opposition party – something no other Zambian has managed to do. HH has been throwing his own money about while Sata clearly has continued to receive donations from well wishers. My point is that you cannot just dismiss a man who has achieved so much outside of government. Look how Nawakwi and Chifumu Banda have failed. This young man, Siulapwa, just takes backhanders from MMD to utter rubbish. He does not even appear to have had a proper job before. If MMD lose the presidency, all the hangers-on will just disappear and try and jump on the PF bandwagon, leaving MMD to collapse – that’s the Zambian way.
Siulapwa, you do not know and understand your role in society. Why don’t you just join MMD? There are a lot of bad decisions the MMD has made, and you have never criticised them, not a single time. You have always sided with them even when they have made mistakes. But you are busy condemning your “fellows” in the opposition. Opposition opposed to opposition, what kind of an animal are you. Silulapwa knows he is not yet ready to stand for presidency. But that doesn’t stop him from voicing concserns about vouchers. He’s exercising principled leadership – warning of disaster if Zambia makes a wrong choice. Opposition politics is not only about opposing everything, it’s about offering responsible and realistic alternatives. Forward looking people also offer warnings of pitfalls ahead. I think he sees the dangers of fake promises, undemocratic tendencies, not to mention the other issues of selling the nation to the…….and populist people who will twist and turn at every point that challenges their popularity. That’s not being principled. Others watch Zambia with envy right now and would wish they were where we are. Dont destroy the country. We’ll be laughed at.

In the first place the only potential disaster I see amongst the opposition leaders is the very Siulupwa – leader of the New Generation Party. The rest have a a good track record of achievements. HH has been successful in his business life, Sata’s record is undisputable, Nawakwi is a very balanced politician, General Miyanda is very wise. So what is this doom sayer talking about. I cannot summon up the energy to even give my opinion about this chap, having said that, it is true that people like Sata should learn from mistakes made in the past concerning embracing so called defectors from the MMD. Most of the rebel MPs were also disgruntled politicians who had been given the boot by MMD, they went and masquaraded as PF supporters to get votes in their constituencies only to become ‘turn coats’ in parliament. Its a huge lesson and one that should be carefully reviewed going into this election.
