Patriotic Front president Michael Sata has pledged that his first task would be to restore the dignity of the Zambian people within 90 days of the PF coming to power.
The PF leader has since declared that the country’s largest opposition party is ready for the 2011 elections.
Mr. Sata says no matter how long it takes for Republican President Rupiah Banda to announce the date of elections, his party is ready to give the MMD a good run for their money.
He has accused president Banda of trying to catch the opposition political parties unaware.
Mr. Sata says the PF is aware of the tactics the MMD wants to use before the announcement of the election date.
He says his party will bench the MMD this time around so that the Zambian people can witness development under the PF government.
Meanwhile Mr Sata says the MMD has started implementing initiatives aimed at disturbing the holding of free and fair elections.
He has however urged the Zambian people not to allow the MMD hoodwink them into voting for them back into power.

He has since challenged those circulating the reports to report the matter to the Drug Enforcement Commission.
Mr Sata says Mr Lubinda does not deal with issues of finances in the party, adding that the authenticity of the said email is also highly questionable.
Mr. Sata was speaking this morning when he featured on Hot Fm’s Hot seat programme.

Bwana Yaya we need to ask ourselves a few questions, especially those of us in foreign lands where systems are working. Where I live potholes are mended shortly after they appear. In Zambia potholes are mended once every five years and supervised by the head of state. Where I live they are supervised by the civil works division of the local authority where I live. Where I live water reticulation is maintained and serviced before it breaks. In Zambia water shortage is found even in towns that are on the banks of a river. These simple things CAN BE DONE in 90 days and are the simple things that can restore the dignity of a society. Don’t think too big and therefore mislead yourself!

But to change things for the better you cant rush to do things that the former set up because you dont know how much you will find in the treasury because there is a lot of plunder. Rushing into changes and forcing them is taking a huge risk as they could actually be wrong or potentially good changes that need to be made slowly due to the fact that radical change can sometimes be negatively disruptive due to potential negative externalities e.g. potential for inflation to rise due to a sharp and sudden increase in government spending.

@78, You’re being a little myopic. The mines and the government signed contracts which gave the mines tax breaks for a specific amount of time. Renegading on these agreements would lose to a loss of investor confidence in Zambia as well as a loss of credibility. So on that basis alone your argument is weak. Your rationale on tax revenues is spot on though. However to generate that much in Corporate tax the tax breaks will have to expire and they will soon, in addition legislation has to be passed preventing the use of shell companies….or otherwise forcing the disclosure of true profitability…a dual listing would be ideal for this. In any case….it WONT take 90 days to make these changes, Dr Musokotwane has mentioned that tax revenue will increase a lot in the next few years…

The truth is RB is inintiating projects now and well within the last 90 days. He is actually using SATA ‘s strategy of 90 days. The only problem for MMD cadres is that they are so scared of SATA because they know that when SATA comes in power he will arrest the thieves. SATA is busy accusing RB on projects that were NOT in the national budget. if he comes into power parliament has to authorise his budgets, the taxes,etc. Then follow designs and plans for clinics,schools, roads,etc….then procuring the tenders thru open bids….evaluation and selection of contractors…..then mobilsing by the contractors…..then commencement of work. This using government system takes more than 90 days. These Road projects RB is doing today detailed designs and studies were done already. If SATA will do same to construction and road works in less than 90 days…..then that will be un planned development and the same single sourcing and contracts given at state house will be more than this time. My other concern is that we are talking more about the Expenditure side of ..
SATA is good at spending. He can promise to spend all the money on one item…….but we need to focus on improving the productive capacity of the economy. If its possible to end all our problems in 90 days, then we should be sure that the productive capacity of our economy will grow to finance these projects in 90 days.
