Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Mumba says it is disappointing and saddening that the formulation of country’s new constitution which should have been developed with 90 days has now protracted all deadlines that were prescribed.
On Thursday yesterday the Technical Committee announced that the printing of the final draft constitution which was supposed to be delivered to the President and the public simultaneously yesterday the 31st of October will started today Friday the 1st of November.
Dr. Mumba says it is unacceptable that the Technical Committee who had indicated that they will release the draft constitution on the 31st of October this year they can now say that they will be finalizing their work next week.
Dr. Mumba has told Qfm in an interview that such delay to release the final draft constitution by the Technical Committee shows inadequacies that surround the formulation of the country’s new supreme law and that it also shows the incapability of the PF to deliver on any promise they have made.
And Dr. Mumba has maintained that that the MMD insists that the country’s new constitution must be developed before the next general election in the year 2016.
Dr. Mumba says the MMD will use all means within its reach to demonstrate on the streets until the country’s new constitution is formulated before the next general elections.
We need a people driven Constitution and not a politicians driven one. And yes we need it before 2016

Nevers Mumba should be the last person to comment on the constitution.Zambia is in such a mess because of his party which acted carelessly.They left a lot of mess which is being compounded by PF.We are yet to have a people driven constitution.Not from us but from our children who are seeing the mistakes we are making.

Zambians because we easily forget, so soon no friends we must be serious and try to debate issues not just for the sake of attacking government .MMD was in leadership for 2 solid decades failed to give you a constitution but only piece meals to fix some individuals who happened to be Zambians and satisfy only a hand full of people. MMD you must not even talk about this issue you will just confuse the masses. If some chap boycotts independence celebrations hits your head lines as if that person even matters at present, only be worried if a freedom fighter like Grey Zulu and others boycott.

MMD never promised a new constitution on the basis that a national constitution is a process that takes time to be formulated. Indeed if its got to be people driven any sensible govt can not even attempt to tag it with a time limit (90 days). MMD started the process and its up to PF govt to finish it though they have failed already on their 90 days. Many promises made to Zambians have failed to be fulfilled by PF govt. This shows PF is just politicking incapable of being realistic. Sad for Zambia.
MMD failed us twice, the John Mwanakatwe constitution review under FTJ. Chiluba and NCC under LP.Mwanawasa. Its on record that Mwanawasa had promised the nation that the new constitution will only be ready after 2016.
It was the arrogance of LP.Mwanawasa and George Kunda that made the constitution making process to be mishandled and Nevers was part of the problem.
