Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu says the peaceful campaigns that characterized the Mansa by-elections should be a model to the rest of the country.

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr. Lungu said government wants to draw lessons from the peaceful elections in Mansa so that the findings can be applied in other areas where elections will be held.

He also said the peaceful manner in which the Mansa by-election was held is a testimony that Zambia is a beacon of peace in the southern African region.

Mr. Lungu thanked political parties that participated in the election for not ferrying cadres from outside Mansa as this has been one of the sources of violence during by-elections.

He also thanked all players in the election for adhering to the electoral code of conduct adding that this resulted in elections being conducted in a mature manner.

Mr. Lungu has since urged other areas where by-elections will be conducted soon to emulate the people of Mansa by engaging in non-violent campaigns.

And Mr. Lungu has said the PF’s victory in Mansa is an indication that people are responding positively to the implementation of the party’s campaign promises.

He said the people of Mansa voted for the PF candidate because they are now seeing the tangible results of programmes government was implementing in the country.

And President Michael Sata has thanked the people of Mansa Central Constituency for voting for the patriotic Front and its candidate Chitalu Chilufya in the just ended parliamentary by-election.

The head of state said the PF Victory in Mansa Central and in the local government by-elections recently held in Central, Luapula and Eastern Provinces signifies the party’s continuous growth in popularity and acceptability among citizens.

In a statement made available to ZANIS by Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations George Chellah, the President said this shows that this is the only party with a nationwide make-up and appeal.

President Sata applauded the people of Mansa Central for showing extraordinary levels of restraint, modesty and political maturity by conducting peaceful and non violent campaigns.

“Let me mention that our recent victory in Nsefu ward in Malambo constituency underscores our rapid grassroots progression as a people’s party in different regions nationally and further point to a definite endorsement for our social and economic development agenda for the country,” President Sata said.

PF’s Chitalu Chilufya poured 9,671 votes and his closest rival from opposition FDD Alfred Mwape poured 1, 279 votes.

The MMD’s Alfred Kapolyo got 1,103 while UPND’s Chikonde Rosemary trailed with 388 and UNIP’s Charles Mwelwa got 162.

    • Here we go my Cindy!!!
The greatest Luapulans, we could even vote for Edgar Lungu if he challenged that insulting Sata. But that Sata, for sure commanded Gen. Kapaya to knee with the rest? and when I asked mudala Kapaya, how come he lined them up? The answer was “…mwaiche Ba Sata bamwene imimbulu nailokwa ati yande inshimba!!”.

    • @Nostradamus,
Hahahahahahha! You cracking my ribs just go a little bit softe on the language chilampita when you go too deep, hhihihihihihih, i like it though.

    • You rights people in luapula a very much civilised, even they way they live, u find one continues village from chembe to chiengi. So every one is your friend, so why kill each other. Generally us people from luapula are not violent, because we know how to talk out in any situation, like ftj. If u look at history of worst violent elections u will find its either in southern, eastern, northwest and part of lusaka. And people in these areas have high inferiority complex such they resort to fight over anything native u tell them

    • I see Sata appointing this guy as Dep. Minister soon as a way of showing gratitude to the people of Luapula in general and Mansa in particular.

    • Mansarians as yu hv put it beyond civilisation, they are just a Fantastic, peace loving Zambians! VIVA PF, VIVA LUAPULA, VIVA THE PEOPLE OF THAT GREAT LAND MANSA

    • The other day I freely advised and predicted that the people of Mansa would vote for the ruling Party because even if someone insulted me in one blog, it is a fact that Northern, Luapula and Muchinga province are highly populated together with their relatives who have settled on the Copperbelt and during elections they always vote as a block for any ruling Party. It is just in their nature to support any ruling party. As for Luapulans they are the most peaceful people in this country no matter how one provokes them they always win peacefully and remain loyal to the ruling party in spite of being one of the least development but most endowed provinces.

  1. Lungu,
The higher authority has ordered you to deploy 500 heavily armed troops to surround the winning candidate’s house just in case. Get moving!

  2. It’s Luapula, we don’t like nonsense of fighting. Check the way Nostradamus, Saulosi, Cat Power contradict each other… but all from same Luapula. We are even adopting Kay, Jo, Cindy, Princess Nubian (miss her), Mushota, and of course the almighty Ndobo!! All come to Luapula.
By-the-way, HH just bought a ranch in Luapula on Tuta road, on his way back from Mansa.

  3. What about the poor voter turnout? Large numbers of people not turning up to vote is a protest in itself. Imagine the winner Sakeni as winner got over 17,000 votes in 2011, Chilufya as runner up got over 10,000 votes – but as winner in 2013 he got less than this number.

    • YES, BUT A PROTEST AGAINST WHO OR WHAT? ECZ, SATA UPND, MMD, UNIP, FDD, PF OR WHAT? THOSE WHO BOYCOT ELECTIONS SHOULD KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS. IT MEANS THEY WILL ACCEPT THE OUTCOME. IN FACT THEY ARE EXERCISING THEIR RIGHT NOT TO VOTE BUT ACCEPT THE OUTCOME.

  4. Great PF and mansa people without violent but peaceful campaigns tell the world it does not pay to loose life unlike in other regions long live mansa and PF. MMD,UPND and UNIP there you go into archives to be used later as history for our Grandchildren.

  5. give merit where it is due. jst learn from the pipo of mansa. @ bryson, ur words can clearly show ur hatred. can u compere mansa to the consitituency in Eastern where mmd won. shame on tribalist like u. go to luapula, give them reasons to why the should vote for u and they wl do excatly that.

  7. Mansa is not a town. Its a village. Go to Chipata and compare. It explains why sata has failed to cheat the intelligent people of chipata central.

    • The first post independence MP for Kawambwa was the late Hon. Dindizwayo Banda(MHSRIP) that shows that Luapulans have ever remained peaceful and abhor tribalism and violence. They have settled in all provinces especially along the rivers and have married away from home causing a huge deficit of men to marry our beautiful women who even attracted the attention of one opposition presidents recently. One year my old friend (MHSRIP) the late father to renowned tycoon Mr. Chilala once visited Mwansabombwe. When he returned to Mazabuka he confided in me how impressed he was with peace, cleanliness and huge population of beautiful women he found and left in Luapula-ntondo chalo cha busaka no mutende!

  8. I hope one of the lessons people have learnt from the Mansa bye election is that violence is brought about by party cadres brought in from outside to campaign for their respective political parties in the campaign style of William Banda. This campaign style whose origin is from the UNIP era should have no place in this day and age. What has happened to HH’s political advisor.

  10. Its riffraffs and villagers who are easily swayed with chitenges and free ubunga that got sucked into voting for “one of their own” like Chitalu.I can bet folks like engineer, ndobo and me we vote using much higher criteria.Too bad we’re minority otherwise Zed would be much better with educated voters.

  11. I am from eastern province and I can assure you these guys are nice to live with. I love the ushi and ngumbo’s etc. lovely people

  12. If there was ever an easy constituency to rig, mansa was one. Since everyone was made to believe that Mansa is PF stronghold, it was the easiest seat to rig. Bane PF is not what it used to be in Mansa or anywhere else, not after Sata has antogonized the country the way he has done. The man has failed to rule Zambia. Just watch this space, many of his MPs will be leaving him soon. The people I feel sorry for are those opposition MPs that are in the PF government. How do you join a Goverment which is sinking? I still maintain that Mansa was rigged and the one who helped with the rigging is Savour Chungu, former OP boss. He camped in mansa for days to work out the rigging machinery.

  13. BRAVO!! Team GBM was no where in sight, thats y these election were peaceful!now we kno the real source of confusion.thanx 4 the violent cadre apathy

  14. @Zambia police,u want to kill yourself b4 2016 nd 2021?U are yet 2 loose.Well done pipo of Mansa!fi mmd and upnd from Lusaka re de ones dat thrieve on violence.Dese re id iots bringing confusions in pf.E.g.All Chawama mmd cadres are in pf.

  15. @jo what language is that,Mansa bye-elections were peaceful because they did not import thugs from lusaka.

  16. Edgar Lungu should not cheat Zambians. The truth is that if Sata had decided to send his violent party militia from the Copperbelt and Lusaka there would have been chaos in Mansa. But Sata knew that his candidate was going to win that’s why he kept his militia away.
