TWO opposition political parties in Eastern Province have expressed utmost disappointment with the delay by the judiciary to deliver the judgements for Petauke Central, Malambo and Mulobezi petition cases.

In a join press statement made available to Times office in Chipata yesterday, MMD provincial chairperson Alexander and his counterpart for UPND Paul Thole said the electorates of the three constituencies were getting inpatient over the matter.

“The electorate in Petauke Central, Malambo and Mulobezi and indeed all of us are getting inpatient over this matter. Justice delayed is justice denied. Are we entering 2014 with this impatience?”, they stated.

They noted that the pending parliamentary by-elections had caused a lot of anxiety in the province and Zambia because it was taking too long for the cases to be disposed off.

“The day an accused person received judgement, sent to jail, he is freer than remain in the remand prison for unknown period. We therefore very strongly appealed to the judiciary to speed up the announcement of the ruling on the three constituencies,” read parts of the statement.

They also said the Vubwi parliamentary seat which was nullified recently on allegations that MMD’s Dr Eustarckio Kazonga was involved in malpractices during the 2011 elections hearing in the Supreme Court remained deferred.

They also said they were baffled with President Michael Sata who went to Malambo to officially introduce PF candidate Jack Shuma and Vubwi were he introduce Margaret Miti as a candidate before the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) could set the date for the elections.

They stated that what happened were a blatant disregard of the judicial process and a breach of the electoral rules.

“Infact we wish to appeal to ECZ to intervene and make its position clear on the matter,” they explained.

They appealed to MMD and UPND members in the province to remain calm.

  1. Those are Sata’s courts so the judiciary is not free to deliver judgements until they consult with the village clown residing at plot 1.

  2. That’ s African politics with a lot of disregard and respect to human rights. Sometimes one can wonder what constitutions govern these poor countries where dictators are on the rise.

  5. Justice delayed is Justice denied.

    PF are doing delay tactics so that once the nullification of any opposition candidates done, will advantage them by reducing opposition MPs in parliament for 3 to 10 months, in order to pass the ruling in favor of their choice. They are working on the psych of the opposition to disadvantage them from voting in Parliament on the Constitution process no wander they do not want to give it out to the public.

    Simple mathematics is this if Parliamentary seats are 16;

    Opposition has10 members
    Ruling ha 6 members
    For ruling to meet its it’s intended purpose to go through is to reduce the opposition from 10 to 4 hence, nullifying 4 MPS so that they can meet 8 or 9.
    Obviously 1 will be void either through abstaining or absenteeism to meet 50+1 %.

  6. Zambia ni nchi ya ma dikteta, walevi na wajinga na pia watu wa kujifanya ati ni wakristo kama Sata kumbe ndio wabaya zaidi.
