The Police High command deserves support for efforts to end political violence
Zambia has been recognised as an oasis of peace in the region. However, some pockets of incidents in the recent past have given rise to fears that the nation is slowly degenerating into lawlessness because of political violence.
As MMD youths together with colleagues from NAREP initiated a meeting with the Office of the Inspector General of Police in our humble contribution towards finding a lasting solution to the rising levels of political violence.
We were prompted to see audience with the Inspector General because we were getting concerned with the manner in which some youths in political parties were conducting themselves.We therefore wish to inform the nation that on Wednesday, January 15 2014, I, together with Mr Bwalya Nondo, NAREP Youth Secretary met the Inspector General of Police in her office and the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.
As youth political leaders, we were encouraged with the IG’s resolve and determination to stamp out political violence.
It was resolved that the Police High Command will work with the political parties to convene a consultative meeting in February aimed at finding a lasting solution to political violence.With the support we received from the IG’s office, we are confident that political violence unleashed by mostly youth cadres will be a thing of the past.
Our challenge at this stage goes to political party leadership to embrace the IG’s call for peace and take concrete steps towards ending this emerging culture of political violence.All political parties should therefore stand ready to participate in the forthcoming consultative violence on political violence.The political party leadership should encourage their cadres especially the youth to participate in the consultative meeting with a view of providing lasting solution to the cancer of political violence.
We therefore urge the political parties to respect the work of the Zambia Police Service and respect the police stations. The barbaric actions were cadres descend on police stations and dare the police officers should be condemned in the strongest terms.
We believe there can never be any justification for political party cadres attacking police officers anywhere not the least at a police station.
Our clarion call is for the political parties to stop using young politicians as stone throwers. Political parties should engage young politicians as engines of progressive political transformation. The era in which young politicians were used to cause confusion is long gone.

Spot on man. Why should cadres dare police at the police station. Really UPND must change the way of doing politics otherwise they are losing support from the general public.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
@1 Truth Hates,
And why should PF cadres in Matero dare the police on live TV by promoting violence and those mounting illegal road blocks a couple of months ago resulting in the death of one of them? If you look at the violence-related incidences without bias you will discover that PF cadres are the worst.
Good Mr. Bowman Lusambo.
